Posting comments
Most of you do a great job posting comments. We thank you for all your support and engaging in intelligent debates. However, several posts were deleted after last night's game. I understand fans are frusrtated with the loss, but to post death threats or to describe in detail harming yourself or an innocent person (I deleted these before they ever made it on the Web site) is unacceptable, as is attacking other posters. It's a game, folks. And if the worst thing that happens to you this year is that your team loses a game it should've won, then I'd say you're doing all right. If you don't comply, you'll be banned from posting. Simple as that.

Jill Painter joined the Daily News in 2000 and during the last eight years she's covered the Dodgers, Cal State Northridge, UCLA, Kings, golf and everything in between. Even though she's from Colorado, she still freezes in the Staples Center press box but always manages to thaw her fingers in time to make deadline. E-mail Jill at

Nicely said!
Thanks Jill, for pointing out what should be obvious.
I was making the "It's just a game" comment to my friends as we were leaving Staples last night, having witnessed several verbal sparring matches and a few near fights among our passionate fans and some not so subtle Wings fans. The most interesting being an almost fight between two young ladies who were both wearing Wings sweaters....go figure.
E-thuggery and sports..unbelievable.
At any rate, if the Kings play with the same intensity on Thurdsay that they did against Detroit..look out Vancouver, you're in big trouble.
Hey Jill, some people "just don't get it"
LOL
Good God...death threats? Harming yourself? Get a life people!
Thanks Jill but it's a shame that this post even had to be made
Well said, Jill! It's only a game people....
Thank you for saying that!
I find it ridiculous that any FAN can shift from supportive to hateful. Especially on a message board where it is absoloutely comical to find reasons to argue or get angry when the whole idea is to share support for a common interest.
EXAMPLE OF HOW IT SHOULD BE: Great post! Too bad last nights game slipped away...Go Kings!
Lets have fun, enjoy the ride, and understand its JUST A GAME.
Don't just ban them. Ban them and forward the comments to law enforcement. Maybe their mommies and daddies would take a more proactive stance in their little babies activities.
Listen:
I made one joke in poor taste. I regret that. I had no idea it would be taken so seriously. Hyperbole does not translate well in internet forums. That said, I must not have been the only one because I have no idea what you're talking about re: harming myself.
Just like "it's just a game", "it's just a post on a blog". Try not to jump to conclusions about the poster. I apologized in the same forum after I realized that my comments had been deleted.
Basically, something dumb was taken too seriously and turned into something ridiculous and edifying in a cheap, holier-than-thou kind of mentality.
If somebody wants to give me a lesson about morality, cast the first stone.

If you knew the post was done in poor taste and it never made it on the board, why did you feel the need to inform us that you said it? We would never have known.
relax with the holier-than-though mentality bull....It doesn't take a holier-than-though person to realzie you don't make death threats against people..online...simple as that.
I also said if it was a joke, it was a bad joke...
You're saying it was a joke....Thats fine...DONE!
Now back to the Kings!
Datacloud:
That feels like it is honest and heartfelt. Thank you.
There is a comic running around the internet - paraphrasing, it says there is a blog virus that reads back your response before posting. The poster then realizes what a "jerk" they have been.
Re-reading before hitting send is essential and if it sounds odd, post the next day when you have had a chance to think about it.
I read this blog easily 10 times a day and appreciate every post. I don't want to see anyone banned from posting.
Thats absurd for people to do that, even during the game chat yesterday people were cussing and being disrespectful. Its a game and I love it, but its a game.
Certainly, fighting and death threats go too far, not just in hockey, but anything. Yet "it's only a game" always irritates me. Monopoly is a game. A game is a time filler, often youth oriented. Hockey is a culture. Many make their living through hockey, cities such as Toronto and Montreal get much of their identities from hockey. Personally, my greatest moments are not graduations and weddings, but rather, the great moments hockey has given me.
So while I agree with the post, I hope Jill understands that while hockey technically is a game, it is also so much more than that. The message, I agree with. The just a game, sorry, but for many of us, it is so much more.
Hockey fan
I'll disagree with you. I appreciate your love of the game..I love hockey as well, but it is a time filler. All sports are a time filler. It is something that we can do after work and before going to sleep. As much as I would like, it can't interfere with my job (although it does when I'm on this board constantly)
nor can it interfere with other important things that have to be done.
So unless you are making your livelihood from the sport, it is just a game. Win or lose, I'll wake up tomorrow and life will go on.
I would agree in SoCal, where sports are just not part of the culture like in most cities, my opinion would be in the minority. Most places I've lived would be different.
Many say hockey is just a game, but I would argue otherwise. Then again, I would say a BMW is just a car, but in this town,I'm probably in the minority.
See, hockey has provided me with my closest friends, best family moments, and my best working experiences. And the pricelessness of that means far more to me than what car I drive, where I live, or how my stocks are doing.
Jill. Good call. As long as you also censure yourself for your ill-advised and inappropriate political references you posted earlier. It's appropriate to take inappropriate posters to task, but you don't get a pass, right?
I understand what you're saying hockeyfan...nothing wrong with that.
I was at work one day and 2 co-workers were arguing over "sports". The point the girl was making in the conversation was that all sports were ridiculous ...
I explained about how after my parents divorced when I was 2, and I only got to see my dad during the summer and thanksgiving.... dad was and is a huge Georgia Bulldog fan ... any time during the year that I was not with him and I saw a Georgia game .. i was reminded of him and it made me feel at home.
The Kings are one of the ONLY teams BORN IN LA.
Count me in agreement with hockeyfan ...
Also one more time for Jill ... I hope your "banning" of objectionable posts will extend to presidential political mudslinging as well ... as I said before this is a HOCKEY sight and the only sanctuary I get from all the hate in the world right now.
So Thanks Jill for not including that kind of stuff... even if it was meant to be "lighthearted" or "just a joke".
I agree 100% Matt George
The political remarks need to stop. I have no interest in reading anything to do with politics on this site. It's all about hockey.

Hi everyone?
I actually had a quick question and wasn't sure if someone might know if they have
ever encountered this. Have you ever seen a tattoo artist use magnifiers while they are
doing a tattoo? I would think it might be helpful while they are doing the fine points of
a tattoo that require great detail. fairy tattoo design ideaMaybe even those magnifying glasses that
your dentist wearing? Anyways wasn't sure if anyone ever encountered this?
