Zeiler update

| | Comments (15) |

Jill should have stuff from the morning skate a bit later, but here's something from yesterday about John Zeiler, who has been skating for a while after his groin strain. A good bet would be Zeiler being sent to Manchester, at least for a while, sometime in the next week...

MURRAY: ``Zeiler is getting closer to getting some ice time, some playing time. He's got the green light from the medical side of things. The groin is fine and he's doing a lot of heavy skating after practice. We have to decide, as an organization, is it best for him to get started with the Kings or is it best for him to go play some games? Missing as much time as he has, that's going to probably be the focal point of the conversation, whenever it takes place with management.''

Still not sure we need him in LA, Manchester would be a nice place for him, or maybe PHX?

It's funny that they're acting like sending him down is even a question. The Kings are already overloaded with forwards that are better than Zeiler & he would be in Manchester even if he never got injured.

Rich, I really enjoy this blog, but i`m so dissapointed on watching hockey with the new camera angles.I attend all the king games so i`m alittle bit spoiled.Center ice is still great(thank God)they haven`t changed.Last night i turned the tv off and went to bed after five minutes of the duck game. Please help in any way you can to bring back the old camera angles. Thank You so much.

Buhbye. Isn't he suspect to waivers if we send him down? Not sure someone would claim him, but that might be the debate.

I also think the Kings will send him to Manchester, but I don't agree that it's a no-brainer.
No question that he doesn't have the talent of guys getting scratched..Boyle/Moulson/Richardson...but those guys are getting scratched because they are not working hard each shift. Forechecking, hitting, tough play along the boards...the exact things that Zeiler does. He won't score goals, but he brings energy to the ice whenever he gets out there. For about 5 shifts a game, that's all you want. Sometimes that's what's needed to turn momentum around during a game. Nobody is getting into a scoring groove by playing that little. He does the things that won't show up in the score sheet, but do help you win. If he's taking stupid penalties, then he's not going to be playing.

yeah I agree with nykingfan. i understand many here feel Zeiler is useless because he brings nothing to the table. however i think what these same people are missing is the fact that Zeiler will never be anything more than a fourth line energy forward. he is very limited in offensive skill, however, he does have a high level of heart, grit, and energy, and that's what is REQUIRED of fourth-line forwards. this is exactly why Boyle has been benched the last few games. he isn't playing with the tenacity of a player with his size.

is practice at El Segundo open to the public?

Which GM in their right mind would claim him off waivers.
Is their another Lombardi out there who'd do that.
Unfortunately Not.

Zeiler has been here a couple of years and had plenty of ice time to impress or get cut. I think it's time for the other kids in the minors to get a chance if Moulson/Boyle/etc aren't working out yet.

Anthony - I cannot argue with your question. It would be mad to pick him up on waivers.
If Ellis was expendable, for sure Zeiler is.
The only catch is that he's under contract.
Zeiler could reallly help the club if he gathered up Boyle, Richardson, Moulson, and Calder and played some 4 hour pickup games with Ersberg and Labs in net. Maybe his determination would rub off on these guys.

Why put down DL? I guess you're the only one who hasn't noticed a difference in this team over the last couple of years?
Quincey wasn't a good waiver pick up? Good grief!

I like the idea of him driving the Zamboni! That's really funny. No way he can replace Bailey, I love Bailey-funny guy!
