Armstrong vs. Ribeiro

| | Comments (15) |

Tempers were already a little high before the shootout, before Dallas' Mike Ribeiro scored on an outstanding between-the-legs play, then skated back to his bench with his pointer finger to his lips, as if to say he had quieted the building. The Kings' Derek Armstrong took exception and immediately began yelling at Ribeiro from the bench, which the TV cameras picked up. I asked Armstrong after practice if he had taken exception to Ribeiro's antics...

ARMSTRONG: ``Yeah. He apologized afterward. He was saying, `It's a show.' I understand that it's a show, but you know what? If you want to be a show, go to the other corner. If he wants to do that, that's fine, because the fans love it, but you can't do that coming to our bench. He's a really good player and he made a really good move. Just doing it to our bench, I don't think that was right. I think it's a great show for the fans, to see that stuff, but go to the other corner and do it for the fans, not to our bench. It's nothing against him. He's a great hockey player. It was a great move and a great play, but I just didn't like that he did it to the bench.''

I agree with Armstrong whole heartedly. He was definitely show boating. Of course it would help to win the game first before you do that crap because alas, we got the last laugh.

It should be a great rematch on Thursday.

Again, good for business. It gets everyone worked up. It builds the rivalry. And Ribero lost anyway. No. 1 star of the night is DUSTIN BROWN. Why did they give it to DOughty? Couldn't Brown have been named even after getting the misconduct?

Derek YOU right.

I don't care if Ribeiro apologized afterwards or not. If one of the Kings has him in their crosshairs on Thursday night, then he's going to get flattened again.

Hockeyfan b4 gretzky, that was epic smack! Brownie cleaned his clock, and the major for boarding was BS. It should have been 5-for-fighting to Brownie and Morrow after the smoke cleared, but the officials tried to give the game to Dallas. Kudos to the Kings for sticking in there and finishing the job.

That said, it wasn't swift of the league to pick up the flag on Morrow and cancel out the automatic 1-game suspension he drew for instigating after the clean hit (If you watch the replay, you'll see Brownie had him lined up before the shot, and Mikey got cute on the shot even though he was going to get hit into the open ice. His pirouette is what sent him into the boards.)

bruce - i understand that the gesture angered you, but that's why it's good for the game. i'd love to see ivanans pull that gesture out when he puts someone to sleep (thats if anyone ever has the nerve to fight him again), especially in another building. there's nothing truly offensive about it in terms of profanity, or off-color material, so I think there's no problem. Besides, what hockey player WOULND'T flatten him if he were in their crosshairs?

you guys are ridiculous. it was a dangerous play, morrow reacted, brown didn't back down. Ribiero made it back to the shootout with 10 stitches in his eye. Armstrong is overreacting and making something out of nothing. Dustin Brown's a good player, but he made a borderline play. Had Morrow injured Kopitar, Brown would have done the same thing. Ribiero's move was fantastic, get over yourselves LA.

For one little gesture , you people sure do get worked up .
Yes , the hit was clean , No , the refs were not trying to throw the game AND IT'S HOCKEY !!! You are supposed to hate your opponent when it is a division rivalry ! Duh !
As far as the league not fining the coach or suspending Morrow , whatever . Anybody in their right mind would have stepped up to question the hit in such a manner . If the Stars had hit Frolov and he was bleeding all over the ice (likely or not) I am certain Brown would have done exactly what Morrow did . It is hockey . You have to expect this type of thing .
