Avery in town

| | Comments (12) |

Former King Sean Avery is in town tonight with the Dallas Stars. Avery is probably the most controversial player in the NHL. Terry Murray wasn't here when Avery played here, so he probably doesn't know the extent of his history in the Kings locker room. Still, it's not something he'll address before the game.
``No, I won't address anything on Sean Avery,'' Murray said. ``Being with the Flyers the last three years, and he with the Rangers, there wasn't any real incidents that come to my mind. I saw the game the other night against Boston, in Boston, and it got a little hectic there at times. But he's a good hockey player. When he wants to play, he's a good hockey player. If he continues to do his job ... Like any player, when you hunt people down or do something that's outside the realm of playing the game, something will need to be said. I never had any experience like that.''

...and in other news, Patrick O'Sullivan will still not see any power play time tonight. Raitis Ivanans will still skate a regular shift with his linemates that do ostensibly nothing. And this could be the night Ersberg gets exposed...

Avery is visiting us this week & Ovechkin is visiting us next week. What a difference. Who would you rather watch?

As I have said before, I sincerely hope Brown puts a nice clean, very intense hit on Mr. Avery as a welcome back present.

Can someone explain to me what Avery did to displease the kings and especially Brownie?

@BRS: I'd MUCH rather watch Ovechkin, and do on a regular basis on NHL Center Ice.

Regarding Avery, I'll just say........

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! YOU STINK AVERY!!! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

He tortured Brown when he was an 18 year old kid...

Marc Nathan...until O'Sullivan actually goes to traffic areas and leave the perimeter, he will continue to see only 4th line minutes. Simply put, he is not playing well, period. Take off the Sully glasses.

Um.. I wasn't aware Avery was worth any of this attention. I don't particularly love him or hate but come on. Terry Murray is way too generous with his Avery compliments. Maybe it's some sort of strategy to throw him off his game. Avery is overrated and i'd rather have Ivanans on my team. He isn't half the player brownie is :)

Sully isn't playing well? Really? I have a feeling that he is on that line because he is the only player that can make Harrold and Boyle look good. Every line that Sully is on is magic.

Magic, as in 'poof! they're gone.'

No, he isn't. He is playing strictly on the perimeter, not driving to the net whatsoever, and his defense has been horrific. He isn't playing anywhere near the level that earned him 1st line minutes last season.

I have been harsh on the likes of Sully, Kopitar, and I haven't mentioned Brown (who happens to be my favorite player), but he too needs to pick up his game, tenfold. He is far better than he has been recently (although he played well against St. Louis, as did Kopitar). After these guys have been in the NHL for as long as they have, yet they still cannot play any defense, it's just terrible.

I think it's unfair to say that O'Sullivan is not going into traffic since he's one of the few players I see in the slot regularly.

But I agree that his defense has been atrocious at times.

@ Anonymous: There's a good article on Avery/Brownie at LATimes.com today. As Mrbrett7 alluded to, he tortured Brownie and was the source of some locker room fights (i didn't know that part until i read the article)
