Ersberg getting a chance?
If you've noticed -- and something tells me some of you have -- Jason LaBarbera has started 10 games in goal and played 537 minutes, 46 seconds, while Erik Ersberg has started zero games and played 65 minutes, 35 seconds. Calgary's Miikka Kiprusoff and New Jersey's Martin Brodeur, two of the NHL's elite goalies, are the only other goalies to start all of their team's games this season, but Brodeur will drop from the ranks Monday because of an injury.
LaBarbera has a 3.01 goals-against average and a .884 save percentage, numbers that hardly scream for him to stay in the lineup, yet there remains intense debate about how much of the blame LaBarbera deserves for those numbers. Terry Murray has been unbending in his support of LaBarbera, but Murray indicated today that it might be time for Ersberg to get a game. The Kings host the Ducks on Tuesday and the Florida Panthers on Thursday.
MURRAY: ``I'm thinking about getting Ersberg in, yes. When is that? I'm not sure, but I haven't lost sight of him. I've been watching his practices. He's been staying hungry, he's learning, he's working with Billy Ranford, when he's here, to establish a good foundation to his game every practice. I love his attitude and his work ethic and I'm not going to lose sight of that. He cares, he wants to play, but he's been a very good professional about the whole thing and knows that right now he's the backup goaltender, waiting for the opportunity. I know that when he gets that opportunity, he will be ready to go.''

10 is the magic number I guess.
Wouldn't it be fun to see Ersberg start the next 10 games in a row? He couldn't do much worse. I like 10 games. That's a good yardstick.
Seriously. Since this is such a young team and, by all accounts, we are in (another) rebuilding year, let's bring up Bernier for 10 and Quick for 10 too.
This is the year to do it, it would be fun for the fans to see all the talent, and it would go a long way towards figuring out who's gonna be el numero uno.
Just do the 10 games times 2 for each of the 4 goalies throughout the year. 80 games. Give the other 2 to Bailey or an ice girl or some fan... cristobal perhaps?
Everyone is agreement that this year will be written off, put in the Closet of Skeletons next to all of the unsold Cloutier game-worn jerseys? OK. Now that it's clear, that this is the year of growth and experience and all that malarkey; who better to grow out of experience and get a mind for the game than Ersberg? He's seemingly the one that will be here (at least in comparison to Babs). I am not a big fan of Bernier so far, so to me Ersberg is the shining light at the end of the tunnel. A light that is most likely from Ikea: Swedish imports and all. Jokes!
You fellow Kings fans remember jokes, right? Like any list of goalies that has Kiprusoff, Brodeur and then crazy 'ol LaBarbara. Haha. It would be like a list that has Iginla, Cheechoo, Hossa and then Zeiler.
nah, give the other two to Fukufuji. he might be the answer.
Haha. Fukakuji. On his Bakersfield Condors profile, he says that in 10 years, he sees himself as a businessman. I can picture him standing by the water cooler and talking about his days (2) in the NHL and how his is the first Japanese-born player, and respectfully gloating with all of the other white collars. It makes it sound like we are so desperate for a goalie, we take volunteers.
Ranford should be working with LaBarbera during practices to improve his positioning as well. After sitting for 10 games while Jason didn't do enough to distinguish himself, I think Ersberg deserves more than a one-game audition for the #1 spot.
This is a complete waste of time. I would rather them bring Bernier up for the remainder of the season than dick around with a 25th ranked backup goaltender as #1 and giving Ersberg next to no playing time... Why not throw Bernier to the fire and let him learn by trial and error. He can't do any worse than Labs and I am sure is annoyed at the thought of being stuck in the lower echelon while pining to be a starter in the NHL. Why not see if he can earn it again like the start of last season?
Give the kid a chance,Labarbara needs to sit for a few, give him a chance to get good and pissed and come back with a fire under his butt and play some solid games.
This coach is terrible..The Kings have talent but this coach has already lost his team(listen to O Sullivan>>>all it takes is one)Line changes after EVERY game.well lets see how that is doing?? Not well ..the team has a losing record..NOT changing the goalie ..lets see how that is doing??...the team has a losing record...Motivating the forces and benching those who dont play well...let see how the team responded to that...the team has a losing record....This coach is NOT performing well....he should be scratched for 5 games!!!!
About freakin' time. I'm not too keen on Murray's moves lately.
I think that the worst part about this is the fact that Ersberg had such great numbers. He had two shutouts in 15 games, the same amount of shutout Babs had in 79 games. He has the talent to put up a decent argument, at least against Babs.
I don't necessarily think that Bernier is the answer though. In 4 games with the Kings he has a 1-3 record with a 4.03 GAA and .864 save percentage. It doesn't make sense to downgrade a goaltender, especially when he had an injury that took him out of camp to begin with.
All I am saying is that I wouldn't be so hasty as to rush and call for Bernier as the last line of defense. Lest we not forget the 'Brust or Bust' signs; proof that in times of need, Kings fans tend to just grab at nothing in one last desperate attempt to keep from plummeting any further in the depths of the league standings.
THANK GOD!!!!
WHO ELSE???
I have been a KINGS fan from the time I was 6 years old
I have put a $100 on the KINGS every year from the time that I got my first job at 31 flavors...(Dad would make the bets for me when I was 16 years old THANKS DAD) I am now 33 years old and out $1800 dollars.
I make way, way, more money now and I dont really give a crap about the money. I lose every year it is like a tradition. It is like paying taxes and one year that I do win I will get all my money back this year at 27 to 1 would do the trick.
But what I am tired of is saying mabey next year. It was like a slap in the face when team Disney won it all. (Yes I know that Disney doesnt own the Ducks anymore.) I want to see this team, this year, do well if not win it all. We have the talent we have we just need to get it going, and every player buying into TM system....
Now, I know that we are all about defense now, but come on we are not scoreing enough goals and if your team is all about defense and that is how you plan to win games is by keeping the puck out of your net and puttin 1 or 2 goals on the board then we are more fucked then I thought in the first place.
We do NOT have even close to good enough goal tending to win games like that. Sure if you have a top notch goalie you may win games like that, but the fact is we dont. For the KINGS to win we need hard hitting
fast paced Dustin Brown putting peoples heads thru the
boards Hockey. Just think about when the last time you
could say you were proud to be a KINGS fan was, mabey
the "Royal Rebound"...I know it has been a while. Shit I have the KINGS Crown Tattooed on my back as big as
it can be. I cant nor do I want to change teams and I now live in Fort Worth Tx. I just dont want to say mabey next year every year, I dont know if any players
read this shit but you guys with the big contracts and all that you have need to know that I need my $2700
so get your shit together and WIN for all the fans that have been here from 6 years old and now to fat and slow to play anymore.......
Anyone who doubts that a netminder needs a good team in front of them to make them confident should look up Patrick Roy's career regular season stats. He was born in '65, drafted in '84 at about 5?th overall.
In 84-85 he played with the Granby Bisons of the QMJHL and had a 5.55 GAA over 44 games.
In the same year he had one game in the AHL (4 GAA) and one game in the NHL (0 GAA).
In 85-86, 21 years old, he played 47 games (3.35 GAA)
Then in '86-'87 he broke through and posted a 2.93 GAA, then in '87-'88 was 2.90 with a save PCT. of .900.
Evgeni Nabokov didn't start playing with the Sharks til 25 years old and at 22 had a 3.92 GAA in the AHL.
Arturs Irbe - 1st season with San Jose posted a 4.46 over 13 games at age 25 and followed that up with a 4.11 GAA over 36 games. His worst, however, was 4.59 over 22 games in '95-'96.
Think Martin Brodeur is God? Take a peek at his numbers before going to New Jersey. GAA in 3 consecutive years with Saint-Hyacinthe Laser - 4.01, 3.30, 3.39.
In '92-'93 Brodeur had a 4.03 GAA in 32 games with the Uttica Devils. The next season, 1 year before the Devils won their first Cup, this same Brodeur posted a 2.40 GAA over 47 NHL games.
Labs played 45 games last year and had a 3 GAA and a .910 save % - on the Kings.
Quit crucifying the guy and show him some respect. If not for a plethora of mistakes the Kings would be in a much different position. He may not be P. Roy, but none of these guys look good behind poor teams. The Kings have miles to go before anyone is going to look like an elite in net. The only criticism we should be making is that Labs needs to start tearing into his own team for the mistakes.

Please give us your opinion: Does Barbs (like) totally out-play Ersberg during practice?
This includes you, RICH!
Good day Kings Fans, I had therare opportunity to watch a Kings Game to my disappointment Brad Richardson was not in the lineup. But I watched anyways. What is the coach thinking he had Ivanans who is suppose to be a enforcer didn't see it. Is there really a need for an enforcer in today's NHL only reason I see the use for one is when your team goes up against Avery but you then are playing into their game plan. Harrold as a forward didn't see a big payoff, Simmonds should be sent to the minors he seems a bit gun shy. O'Sullivan - Richardson - Boyle line is a good 3rd line on any team
It's time....make the change....
Please start LaBarbera vs. the Ducks... then, after guaranteed loss night you can move on and let Ersberg go against Fla, which could end the losing streak...
"He's working with Billy Ranford when he's here....."
What's wrong with TM's statement? I guess a better question would be "how often is Ranford here?"
I realize the Kings have Manchester and other minor league affiliates. Is Ranford responsible for teaching all of the goalies in the Kings system? I would think the Kings would be his first and primary responsibility.
This sounds like another cost cutting move on AEG's part.
At the very least, Ron Hextall should be picking up the slack in Ranford's absence and tutoring Labs and Ersberg, especially during a seven game homestand!

you're only geting 27 to one?
at the Peppermill here in Reno they're giving the kings 100-1
which would be 10 grand for a hundred dollar bet.
Well it was in the summer.....Before they knew that the KINGS would not spend any money on any good players
and would not make a effort to get some NHL goal tending....I could put a $100 more but the way they run this team I would be better off to buy a hundred
lotto tickets....More likely to win then the Kings winning the cup with AIG afraid to spend a lil money.
Holy cow Charles... I live in Reno too and never notices that =P I am running down there to place a bet heh. Peppermill for the win.
We always seem to have coaches that fall in love with the worthless one. I will not watch the Kings anymore this season unless Ersberg becomes our starting goaltender. Jason Labarbera is a great starting goaltender, for the manchester monarchs.... He hasn't won a game for us, and he has cost us a few. Only games Kings win with him in net is the defense being dominant (against the blues) or winning despite horrible goaltending of Labarbera (like the ducks game). Of course Andy Murray looks like a God when comparing him to Terry Murray. Why can't the Kings get anything right? Nothing has been positive for a while, NOTHING.
