From the locker room
KINGS HEAD COACH TERRY MURRAY:
(Re: getting the shootout point) "I thought it was a good point. In the early part of the game we were not the same as what we were, or wanted to be, as the energy we showed in the Washington game. Then it became a game of specialty teams and that takes a lot of flow out of the game from both sides. They were stronger on the puck, they were controlling the small areas of the game in the first two periods but to come back the way we did in the early part if the third period is a big effort and it's a good point."
(Re: Drew Doughty's play/rumors about Calder Trophy) "He's played well and he's improved his game since the start of training camp. He does play a lot of minutes on our team, but I think the Calder trophy is a long way away. He's playing good, he's an 18-year-old that's playing an important part of our hockey club and we have a team now that's been playing some pretty good hockey."
KINGS DEFENSEMAN DREW DOUGHTY:
(Re: game recap) "Maybe we had a few let downs, but we've just got to work from that. I'm sure we'll watch video at the next practice and learn from our mistakes and I think we'll take it from there."
(Re: early Calder trophy consideration) "I try not to think about that at all. It's so early in the season; it would obviously be awesome to win that award, but there are so many good rookies in this league and all I'm focused on is the LA Kings and just playing my best every night."
KINGS FORWARD DUSTIN BROWN:
(Re: game recap) "It's a good point. You look at that game and we obviously didn't play as well as we would have liked in the second or the first, but we battled back and that's the key thing. A shootout loss is a shootout loss. It's fifty-fifty really. They had better shooters than we did. The bottom line was the shootout and it's an extra point for them."
(Re: game recap) "They have a lot of skilled forwards and they all shoot the puck. A lot of their chances were off the scramble of blocked shots. Whether they were getting blocked or Ersberg was making saves, it's hard for our defensive group to respond to all the shots."
AVALANCHE HEAD COACH TONY GRANATO:
(Re: Hits during the game): "I don't know if I've noticed more hits from behind. It's always hard when you are going hard in on the fore-check you can expect that you might get a hit from behind. Sometimes when you're going full speed and with the fore-check you might not pay attention to that, but it's certainly a major penalty."
(Re: Peter Budaj's performance): "Peter's been very sharp. He has gained confidence, experience and the knowledge of the shooters. The research that he does on the shooters with Jeff Hackett certainly helps. But he has been very solid the past couple of weeks and when you're confident in your goalie that makes a difference everywhere in the game."
(Re: game recap):
AVALANCHE FORWARD IAN LAPERRIERE (the former King)
(Re: Hit by Zeiler on Foote): "I saw Foote on the ground and I kind of knew it wasn't a clean hit because he was hit from behind. We all jumped in there to back our teammate up. But those hits have to stop before someone gets hurt or even killed. Guys have to be smarter and it has to come from the players, the league can only do so much."
(Re: On tonight's win): "It's a huge win, we're playing good hockey. We came here for a battle and we came out with two points."
(Re: Kings Alternate Jersey): "They're nice, very nice. It's a mix of the old and new Kings colors and a new logo. It's refreshing."

Can we send Zeiler to the Minors and get Purcell in return?
Thanks for the words so late!
Jill - many thanks for the game status and posting player quotes.
I can't believe I sat 5 seats down from Mr. Bruce McNall at Staples Center tonight! When did they ever let they guy out of Lompoc Federal Prison???
It's a good point when you blow a third period lead? Oh, I guess it is when you're still a growing team struggling for respectability.
We played good but the better team won tonite. We enjoy listening to nick and daryl on the way home from games, but whats up with the lexus room? To much back ground noise. We have a great team, let us enjoy hockey the old way, we don`t need the lexus room and for sure we don`t need ringside! Darn I`m getting OLD!
re: Old man's comments regarding the "Lexus Room" --- come on, the Kings have to imitate the Ducks at EVERY turn... let's face it...
ICE GIRLS... ducks first
PROJECTING CRAP YOU CAN'T SEE FROM THE 100s or 200s onto the ice during the pregame presentation... ducks first
POST GAME SHOW FROM THE OL #7 CLUB/LEXUS ROOM... ducks first
MASCOT WITH A FLAG ON THE ICE BEFORE THE GAME... ducks first
there's a few more (not mentioning the cup...) but the fact is, the Kings are imitators in the marketing arena... it's a fact that's been proven time and time again. Doesn't mean they're not trying to improve the overall product, but when you attend games in both buildings, it always brings a chuckle when the Ducks do something and then a year later it becomes a staple at Staples.
I agree with "Old Man". I stopped listening to the post game show when they moved to Lexus room. I can't hear a thing on the radio. Keep them back in the broadcast booth please. Really marketing...some things need to be left alone....
It's way too early to be asking Drew and the coach about Calder Trophies. I have to agree with deadcatbounce. They worked their way in front from a 0-2 hole and kinda blew it. Actually, they did blow it.
We played 2 forwards short after Zeiler went. Murray's line-up made for a weaker team. No Zeiler meant few shifts for Boyle and Ivan. Basically, he screwed himself, though I don't think Zeiler should have been penalized. I see that hit a thousand times per game.
we didn't play very well at all last night. This was the 1st time in a long time we let the other team dictate the pace of the game. Way too many penalties called in the game. It took away from the flow.
BUT..how many times can we say over the last couple of years that we didn't play well and still got a point out of it? I'll take that over what usually happens when we don't play well.
Lappy is absolutely right about Zeiler's hit. It was dirty and I hope he gets suspended. I also hope he gets demoted. Zeiler is useless and does not belong at the NHL level. Peter Harrold was far better in that role. Get Zeiler out of there, please!
The kings played a lot better after Zeiler was sent off.
If the Kings play cheap shot Zeiler and he keeps playing like he does--cheap hits to the back, running guys late after the puck is gone, turtling as soon as someone comes near him wanting to fight-- it won't be long before the other teams retaliate by ignoring Zeiler and instead going after Kopitar, Brown, O'Sullivan et al. That would be bad for the Kings.
I liked this team's stand up attitude which is part of the game; I've no interest watching lesser skilled players using the vagaries of the game to try and hurt people when they are vulnerable.
Foote wrongly figured the puck was gone and so Zeiler would not cheap shot him head first into the boards. But that Foote erred (wrongly thinking Zeiler had an ounce of respect for the game or other players) does not--it seems to me-- mean that Zeiler should have come in late after the puck was gone and sent someone head first into the boards at speed.
All in all, the Kings were fortunate to get a point out of that game, what has to be the softest effort since Double E took over in net. Hopefully the deep Alberta freeze will get them refocused.
no disrespect marc nathan but..
Tip-a-king...Kings first
KINGSTON orginal mascot...Kings first
Hockey in Cali..Kings first
Fans that actually know the rules..Kings first
(if you have ever sat next to a duck fan you understan!)
So let's not go praising the ducks to much :)
Vicarious - I disagree with your assessment of Zeiler's hit and will reiterate that I see hits like that a dozen times a night. I don't like those hits, but Foote knew he was there and it wasn't Zeiler putting him head first, it was just an unfortunate position Foote was in and it tweaked him. I'm not against eliminating hitting in the back, but when a player like Foote knows Zeiler is coming, its an allowable hit. Foote as you can see, changed directions and probably thought he'd avoid most of the contact coming.
I may be wrong, and maybe I should watch it again, if possible, but initially that was how I saw it. I'd like to hear what Foote has/had to say about it. Plus, I hope he's ok and not too badly injured.
As far as wanting Zeiler in Mank, I agree. I'd rather see a lineup without him and Murray give the shifts to Richardson, Armstrong, CLune, Purcell or G. Gauthier.
