No changes tonight
Jill reports that the Kings won't make any changes for tonight's game. Erik Ersberg in goal, Derek Armstrong and Brad Richardson scratched.
More importantly, no Rinkside View on the telecast tonight.

no rink side view so what your telling me is I wasted 6 bucks on dramamine
did feuer get fired or something? if so, hallelujah!
Booooo!!! Gimme my rinkside view!!!
(just winding you clowns up...;))
Should be a fun game tonight, anyone thinks there's a snowballs chance in hell that Avery will go with Ivanans??
Rich, I don't recall you weighing in on the RSV debate. I'm interpreting your 'more importantly' comment as being against it. Is that correct?
Total bummer, no Rinkside View on the telecast tonight.
I think the above-the-net cam has potential, but I have absolutely no use for the ice-level, center-ice hand-held cam, or whatever they're trying to do with that. It's a disaster.
wow, three games in a row without changes. i guess tm has found (at least for now) his 4 consistent lines and quality goalie starts.
rinkside view... above the goals is great. it allows you to see the speed of the game. center ice view is ridiculous, you can't see a thing. recently i saw a canadian broadcast of hockey in hd using the old style cameras on a large screen, plasma tv with stadium style audio. i felt like i was there, unbelievable quality. if we could get fs sports to broadcast games like that, tv viewership would jump 1000%. probably a pipe dream though.
The worst thing about the side cameras isn't the queasy/headache inducing aspect... what is unforgiveable is that you often lose sight of the puck durring a scoringe chance, as there's usually a high positioned defensman skating by
The RSV is absolutely unwatchable. I feel like I have only seen 2 games this year because the RSV games are just 2 + hours spent trying to find the puck.
above goal cam is fine... EXCEPT:
when the puck is above the top of the circles, then it's useless. and to a lesser degree, when the puck goes into the corners.
as others / Rich mentioned, the rest of the RSV cameras are useless.
All these rinkside view cameras are specialty cameras. If you want to show a power play with the camera behind the net, that's ok. If you want to show something specific in the neutral zone, then the center ice camera is alright for that. They have the corner cameras for replays, those work that way. They have the net cam so you can see the goal line. But to see an entire game from an angle like that is crazy. That's what the wide shot is for.
I don't hate RSV as much as I thought I would, BUT for the entire game is too much. IMO using the traditional presentation with some use of the RSV stuff could make the telecasts a little more dynamic for new fans but not such an excessive gimmick for the long time fans.
Rich, Do you know if the RSV is due to HD? It seems they only have the rink side view when they are broadcasting in HD.
Rinkside view would okay if fox brought back that glowing puck they used on Saturday games a few years back.
Drew or Stakmos! who would you rather have?
No rinkside view also means no HD
No RSV? Maybe the Fuhr finally watched a broadcast of one and is hugging the toilet all day, thus making him unable to leave lonng enough to authorize it for tonight.
Why did Dl trade for Richardson then.
And why did he give up such a high draft pick only to see him get scratched every night.
I for one would rather see Richardson play on the line with POS-Bolye instead of Harrold.
By the way, this allegation that POS has an attitude problem or is selfish is only in the mind of our coach.
Its not reality.
I agree with Marty. POS days in LA are numbered.
I don't know why he's putting up with this non-sense.
Was RSV even scheduled for this game? I believe it has only been used in HD games, and I don't believe this game was ever scheduled to be in HD.
No, tonight's game was not on the schedule. The next one is Sunday at Anaheim.
Too bad. I was hoping that all the ranting and raving here got some attention at FSN. But I guess not (yet).
Anthony--
Brad Richardson was acquired because nobody could have predicted that a prospect like Simmonds would make the squad out of training camp. Depth is a wonderful thing to have, and when somebody gets injured this year (which will absolutely happen) you will be grateful that we have a checking line speedster who can kill penalties.
The team is light years ahead of where it was expected to be at this point in the season, what could you possibly have to complain about?
O'Sullivan will end up where he belongs. Unfortunately for you, NHL coaches are not likely to make knee jerk reactions.
As for your ridiculous notion that Sully's days in LA are numbered...he just signed a multi-year deal and does not have the clout to demand a trade at this point in his still young career.
RSV would be acceptable, maybe even good, if the camera was mounted to a rail along the top of the glass and would move with the action as well as move left and right while in motion. That's a little more in the big network's budget, however. Also, I think the regular Kings viewing angle is excellent, you see other telecasts where you feel like you're in the rafters.
Seems like we all understand RSV in its flaws and glorys much better than anyone at FSN.
"I agree with Marty. POS days in LA are numbered.
I don't know why he's putting up with this non-sense."
He's paid million of dollars to play hockey and play where ever the coach says he plays. What do you expect him to do, storm into DL office and say "Play me or trade me" like some prima donna?
Voice of reason, your argument doesn't make sense. Richardson was acquired while the Kings had Purcell and Moulson. Both were being touted by the masses here as NHL all-stars. Lewis, Ellis, Boyle, Moller, Simmonds, and Armstrong are just a few of the players the Kings already had on the books. Not to mention, the free-agency period was still on the horizon when this trade was made.
Richardson appears to be a dedicated player with an adequate skill-set. There's no shame in acquiring him, but not for the reasons you stated.
In the last 2 games, POS has played the 4th and 5th most minutes for a forward. only Kopitar, Brown, Zues, and Fro for one game have played more minutes. so other than fans' perception that he is entitled to a spot on the 1st line, regardless of his performance, and if he doesn't get it then he will demand to be traded, what exactly is his beef?
"the Kings had Purcell and Moulson. Both were being touted by the masses here as NHL all-stars."
uhh.. no?
"Lewis, Ellis, Boyle, Moller, Simmonds, and Armstrong are just a few of the players the Kings already had on the books."
Im pretty sure none of the rookies were "on the books" as actual NHL players until they met the 10 game requirement. If anyone went into the season sure that these guys would be able to play in the NHL, they were pretty wishful.
We acquired him for exactly the reasons stated. Depth. What if one of these rookies didn't/doesn't pan out. What if someone is injured? Want Zeiler in there instead?
uh, yeah.
Richardson is for depth? What depth? Anyway, isn't that what the AHL team is for? Richardson can't go there without clearing waivers.
And, since when is trading for depth with a 2nd round pick a good idea?
Its not about the minutes with Sully ,it is the constant line movement and specifically no PP time with offensive linemates. However biased my opinion, it is obvious he has been one of the best forwards from the beginning of the season without attending training camp.We all know this irks the Kings staff to no end, they do not want to set a precedent.I believe they have made it as difficult for him to assimilate as possible and have pretty well assigned Sully to(break em' in) helping all the players needed to adjust to the NHL level. Finally he is left with underperformers on the 4th line, drawing penalties for thePP unit,Killing penalties for lazier ones.Sully has always been a team player but he has always been an offensive player and will continue whether it is in LA or elsewhere. Thanks for the cookie.
well, if you say there is controversy long enough then there must be one.
