This week's broadcasts

Just to clarify, for those who have access, the Kings' games will be available tonight (on Center Ice) and tomorrow (on the NHL Network). There will be no blackouts in the Los Angeles area.

The Calgary announcers are horrendous by the way.

A video feed of the game may be available online at this location. I've used it before many times but it is hit and miss.

What's up with the NHL network on Time Warner? Is it part of any of their packages? I know it's not part of mine.

I'll be watching on NHL Game Nut or whatever it's called on the computer.

Kevin Y said:

Rich, can you explain to me how blackouts work? How come some games are blacked out, but not others? What decides this?

MstrB said:

The NHL network is offered on the Sports Teir in some areas for Time Warner. Its in Hermosa and Manhattan and oming to Redondo with their upgrades.

Capt Jam, thanks for that info

Quisp, can you get the exact name for me? I would really appreciate it. I'm actually home tonight and would like to watch the game, even if it's on the computer.

Kings 1st game vs the Flames wasn't televised on Center Ice or the NHL network eventhough it wasn't scheduled to be aired locally. I hope that they DO televise it this time around.

Anthony, that joke is getting old. Please stop. I'm not sure if you've noticed, Moller is about as much of a puck hog as Cammi. I'm surprised you haven't ranted about him yet.

Kevin Y-

This game isn't blacked out. FSN just hasn't done an Alberta road trip in years.

If you dont have CI you can go to the newly opened Barneys Beanery in Burbank, they have the all the games on CI and theres a billion TV's.

Thanks for the link Capt Jam, I'm now watching Toronto v. Atlanta. Nice.

Anthony get over it, please. After Cammi lights up the Kings tonight, you'll be moaning how come we traded him away.

Duckhunter -

The name is NHL GameCenter Live. I was initially skeptical, due to it being streaming content on the computer and all, and also due to the price, which is $20 a month. But I'm sitting here watching the Toronto/Atlanta game on my mac with multiple camera angles, live stats, highlights, shot charts... Also, you can watch multiple games simultaneously. And you can watch archived games, and as far as I can tell, everything is archived (I don't know if it's really everything, but it appears to be extensive). It's ridiculously great.

No, it's not HD. But it's not jerky looking either.

Oh, yeah, and there's a chat feature. So you can annoy your friends and fellow fans in real time.

I don't understand why tonight's game isn't on FSN2 (or prime ticket, or whatever the hell it's called). They got high school volleyball, followed by high school football tonight. Yeah, that's more important then NHL hockey. I have center ice and nhl network, so I'll get to see both games. It just doesn't make sense to me why they won't televise it locally.

I also have Time Warner. They just started offering NHL Network up in Ventura county before the season started. Nothing was posted on their website. No emails about it, even though I asked them time after time last year for it. All of a sudden it was just part of my channel lineup. And yes, it is the sports tier, so I have to pay even more for it. But at least I get it.

Quisp,

I live in Fountain Valley and my local Time Warner service just started providing the NHL Network this past summer. It's well worth getting, if you can. They show the Hockey Night in Canada games on Saturdays, and their nightly highlights show is great (if a little light on Kings coverage).

Anthony, so far your "lord Cammy" 1 and Kings 0 on him.

It's 2-0 flames after Gauthier tripped on his blue line and let them in unabated for a semi soft goal let in by Ersberg. It wasn't a terrible angle but not a great one either.

thx capt jam, watching game right now

Getting ugly. 4-0 now. I'm smelling Jason Labarbera on thursday.

NHL GameCenter review: although the bells and whistles are nice, the feed was spotty, at least for me, and had the habit of freezing and then skipping ahead more or less randomly. Made actually watching the game kind of unworkable. Too bad, because the idea of it is great. I love the live updating stats and so forth. (also, a big problem is that you can't pause the game in progress, like you would on a DVR or Tivo -- I'm sure they'll work out the bugs...for now, I'm going to take advantage of the rumored five-day money back guarantee to get a refund)

re NHL Network and NHLHD on Time Warner: yes, it turns out they do have it here in Hollywood (at least the non-HD version) on their "sports tier" for which you pay an extra 5 bucks a month. The lady on the phone said they'll be adding the HD version in January.

Quisp Author Profile Page said:

The lady on the phone is an idiot. NHLHD is already on Time Warner in Hollywood. And I would just like to say, once again, how much better games in Edmonton look on TV than everyone else's arenas. This has been consistently true for the last twenty-some years. Something about the brightness of the lights. The white in the jerseys jumps right out at you. The blues are bluer. The ice looks crisper and shinier. I'm not talking about HD. I remember thinking this back in the 80s, even. Am I crazy? Anyone else notice this?
