Tonight's lineup changes

| | Comments (17) |

I just got off the phone with Terry Murray, who will make a couple lineup changes tonight:

-- Jason LaBarbera starts in goal in place of Erik Ersberg. Murray said he planned for the goalies to split these two road games before the trip.

-- Brad Richardson goes into the lineup in place of Brian Boyle.

-- The traditional ``top two lines'' should remain the same, but then look for Derek Armstrong to center a line with Kyle Calder and Michal Handzus, and for Richardson to center a line with Raitis Ivanans and Wayne Simmonds.

I'll have some quotes transcribed regarding these changes in a little bit...

Finally, we get to see Richardson. I don't remember when he last played, but he's appeared in five games this year.

I really don't know why Ivanans continuously gets to stay in the lineup game in and game out. We really need to start generating more offense through the entire lineup and the guy has no offensive skills whatsoever. Also when he's on the ice the shots from the point that he's supposed to be guarding are endless. Is there really a need for an enforcer role on this team right now?

Boyle needs another wake-up call. As I mentioned in the LGK forum, he's the smallest 6'7" player in all of hockeydom. (Yeah, I know, that's a bit of an exageration . . . . )

Why do so many of you complain about Ivanans, he's an enforcer and they don't expect him to score. Maybe you should be questioning star players like Sully and Kopi for not scoring and not Ivanans.

In my opinion, yes Mike, there is. Not tonight though...Edmonton is much more of a skating team, and I would rather have seen Boyle, or even more so Harrold up front over Raites.

Ivanans is a little girl and deosn't enforce anyways.... no use for him being around. Gauthier, Green, Army, and Simmonds stand up more then he does. So get rid of him. He's the master of the reach-around holding penalty. That's about it.

First meeting of the year between these two teams. With an overtime loss by Edmonton tonight, the Kings and Oilers will both have a 9-9-3 record. Should make for an interesting game with lots of motivation on both sides. I imagine MacTavish will start Garon. First time Lubo, Stoll and Greene are playing against their former teams. Can't wait! I'd love to see a big game tonight, but with Labs in goal, I'm definitely worried.

Labs will shock everyone tonight and play well.

The Kings will shock everyone and not get behind by two goals.

Final score: Kings 4, Oilers 2.

Jonny, comments like yours always make me laugh. You must not watch many games, and if you do, you don't pay much attention. When was the last time you saw Ivanans back down or even lose a confrontation. The little girl part is what's funny. What would that make you, when that little girl knocked you into next week?

Duckhunter,

I agree that calling Ivanans a little girl is lame, yet I still cringe when he's out there in the same way I slap my hand to my forehead when Gauthier makes a knuckle-headed play with the puck that results in a turnover or a goal. I'm sure Ivanans is a pretty good guy, most enforcers are, but I don't get why Murray gives him such big minutes. I love what Rudy Kelly called him on the Battle of California blog: he likened him to Trogdor and stated that the rink guy that controls the sound should play Trogdor everytime he finishes a fight. Needless to say the Trogdor song plays in my head when I see Ivanans. Laughter ensues. This needs to happen at Staples. Like right away.

Irish Pat, that's good stuff. I to think he plays to many minutes, but that's the system TM likes to use(4 lines). So in that respect, he's out of place, but in his main role of enforcer, he's outstanding.

Many people don't understand that Ivanans is out there not only for the physical part, but also the mental part. The fact that other players(Greene, O'Don, etc.) don't have the responsibility to enforce, puts their minds at ease and allows them to focus on other things more important. Many fans have voiced their unhappiness with Ivanans play, but I guarantee you every King that is in uniform each night is happy he's out there. As Anonymous said earlier, we pay a pretty penny for Kop, Brown, O'Sul and Fro to do their jobs and be the difference makers.

Ivanans does exactly what he's suppose to do, the same job Brashear does with the Caps. Both aren't out on the ice for their play making skill, they're out on the ice to keep things honest. Brashear played 80 games for the Caps last year, do you think their fans complain like we do? I for one am glad he's out there looking out for the young guys, and like Duckhunter said, I bet you anything the guys in the room like it too.

I think the need for Ivanans as an enforcer is largely behind us in the league and only a few teams have guys we need him out there against. Otherwise he's two steps slow and a penalty taking machine.

Armstrong moving up to the 3rd line after an atrocious game last night? Nice reward. Maybe he'll get first PP unit minutes like he did last year to squander even more ice time.

Labs deserves a start. It's been 10 games and he wasn't bad before. Although you'd never believe that from the comments blaming him for pretty much every loss.
