Fast recovery for Ersberg?

In a quote on the Kings’ website today, goaltending coach Bill Ranford indicated that Erik Ersberg could return in one of the Kings’ three post-Christmas games: Dec. 26 or 27 against Phoenix or Dec. 29 against Columbus. Ersberg got hurt on Dec. 15 and had an estimated recovery time of two weeks, so Dec. 29 wouldn’t necessarily be an “early” return, but groin strains are notoriously tricky, so getting Ersberg back before the New Year would be a positive development.

“I think the plan is to hopefully have him back just after to Christmas,” Ranford said. “I don’t know if it will be the first game, but if we can get some practices in right after the break and as long as he doesn’t tweak it and go backwards, there will be a good chance he will be available right after Christmas.”

we all want to see him back, but he should not force it and make it worse with a tear. then he’s pretty much finished for the duration of the season. even if it hurts us in the short-run, i would keep him out until january. the more practice and stretching the better. us mortals have all had groin pulls from time to time. i can’t imagine trying to slide across the crease doing the splits trying to stop a slapshot. ouch!

    What a great Christmas gift!

    Thanks for the update Rich.
I hope the sooner the better.
His return will only help this team.
And it will spell the end for Barbi.
Especially after todays performance by Quick.

    See ya Sucker!

Let him sit one or two more weeks. Would hate to see the same thing happen to him that happened to Luongo. Give Quick a chance he looked really good tonight. Very comfortable.

I hope the Kings don’t force Ersberg back unless they are absolutely sure that he is 100%. The next 3 games against PHX and CBJ are very winnable for Quick so keep him in net for now. Didn’t Ersberg injure his groin previously ? Was it at training camp or last year ?

And you all thought that maybe Ersberg didn’t consider himself the #1 guy, it’s amazing how fast a groin can heal when there’s another sheriff in town. Merry Christmas to all the Kings and my good friend Daryl and to all the folks that come in here and bleed the Purple.

I definitely think the best case scenario is to have Ersberg fully healed. Let Quick take the next three starts. If Quick performs well, send Lambs down to Manchester once Ersberg is ready, have Ersberg and Quick fight for the starting spot, (or right the hot glove) and have Bernier become the full-fledged #1 at Manchester with a respectable AHL backup in Lambs.

    Do we all agree?

Yes, make sure he is fully recovered. Dont want any setbacks. Although Quick looks very calm, and positions himself well………he gives up alot of barbie doll like rebounds. Some of which were big time scarry. The D was very good at clearing alot of those horrible rebounds last night-great jobb!!!

I’m sure the training and coaching staff aren’t going to let Ersberg back unless he’s 100%. Their are tests that are done to determine whether the injury is still there. If they feel he’s healthy..bring him on back.
It does set up an interesting scenario with Barbs.
The way Quick has played, I would think it would be tough to send him back down and keep Barbs up. That leaves you with either carrying 3 goalies, or waiving Barbs and sending him down.

    No!

Oh please, don’t send “him” back to Manchester. On a good night, a real good night, he might be a respectable AHL backup. Can’t he just be assigned to a team in Europe?? Please….

Labarbara NEVER made use of his opportunities, and he’s had plenty.
    He’s done.
    Stick a fork in him.

I’d feel sorry for him but he can walk away with a few million if he’s been smart.
There are plenty of things for him to be thankful for.
Labs and Zeiler can still help this franchise by staying with Manchester and grooming the future, especially Zeiler.
I’d love to see them both stick around and be a part of our future in a different capacity.

To be honest, I would like for Zatkoff to be the #1 on his junior club and get a lot of games. I want Bernier to get a lot of games too. Having Zatkoff sit so Bernier can get a majority of the starts doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Not that I want Lambs to start in Manchester or be the #1, but if he is backing up Bernier once every ten games, I’m happy with that.
