Armstrong, on the team meeting

| | Comments (4) |

Here's what Derek Armstrong said about last night's team meeting, plus a bonus question regarding his thoughts on the Kings' offensive issues...

ARMSTRONG: ``You just have those meetings sometimes, when you think things aren't going right. You don't always

need the coach coming in yelling and screaming. We're professionals, and we know when things aren't going the way they should be. When you have meetings like that, you just get internal things sorted out. There's no problems, or anything like that. Sometimes we just need to talk, as players, and get back to where we were.''

Question: How do you know when it's more than just the ups and downs of a young team, and when it's something that needs to be talked about?

ARMSTRONG: ``I think that when it comes to work ethic, you talk about it. Especially in the last period of the last two games. There were little things there. We could have beared down. It doesn't matter who is on the ice. You've got to bear down. It's a long season, but you have to nip things in the bud when it's time to nip them in the bud.''

Question: You guys haven't been able to find that offensive consistency yet. Do you have a sense of what needs to improve or change?

ARMSTRONG: ``I think we've got to get more hungry to score. There are a lot of `dirty' goals scored, when you watch the league in general. Especially when you watch the top teams, there are a lot of goals scored right in front of the net. That's what we have to learn as a team. There are a lot of tips and scrambles that lead to goals, and as a team we have to work a lot harder to score those goals.''

In order to score the dirty goals, you got to be able to put the puck on net. Our defensmen thus far have had some problems with their aim. And the forwards have to be in position for those juicy rebounds. So far that aspct of their game has been missing. They are looking for that high light goal. Well that doesn't happen all to often. That's why it's called the high light goal. So I yet can't understand why they have been reluctent to just shoot the puck and fish for those rebounds. If someone knows, please let me know.

Love that guy, his attitude is spot-on and team orientated. He would have had a goal against Phx too except for the puck bouncing over his stick in the crease.../

Roger, we had a player who liked to shoot the puck. People here didn't like him much for that and called him a hog. I for one never had a problem with it. I'm happy to see him posting 20 points for his new team.

roger-

in my opinion, it's not just shooting the puck but simply contesting the front of the net more. the kinds have been playing hockey on the peripheries for a few games here. offense may begin with defense, but it ends in front of your opponent's net, and the kings just have not had a strong presence there.
