More on Lewis

Trevor Lewis, you might recall, was the linchpin in the trade that sent Pavol Demitra to Minnesota. Dean Lombardi wanted the extra first-round pick (17th overall) to draft Lewis, six spots after they drafted Jonathan Bernier. Lewis seemed to be stuck in neutral for a while. He never had the ``wow'' factor at any of the Kings' camps, and last season in Manchester he had 12 goals and 16 assists in 76 games. This season, however, Lewis has put up eight goals and 11 assists in 28 games, and played a strong enough all-around game to get a call-up. Lewis, presumably, will make his NHL debut tomorrow in Buffalo, and he will wear No. 61.

DL's best trade ever.
Trading Demitra for Sully & Lewis.

I bet Doug Risebrough is regreting that one.
Demitra did nothing but get injured and is no longer with the wild.

Yeah, he's probably kicking himself even more now that he's doing well for the Canucks. Lewis will be a good 3rd line guy, possibly a 2nd liner.

I suspect he gets converted to a wing, although I have never really seen him play.

The little I saw of him, at the prospect camps, I wasn't too impressed myself. But, you can't ingnore the numbers and the fact that the reports on him this season have been good.

I do remember he was a fast riser as that years draft and that he was considered a late bloomer. Perhaps the same is happening to him as he continues his career and moves up the ranks.

and if he scores in his first game, Kings fans will assume that he's the second coming of Marcel Dionne, and if he goes pointless in the 3 road games, he'll be a bust, deserving of ice time between Ivanans and Zeiler.

Actually, I have to disagree with that characterization Rich, at least from my recollection of draft day. DL wanted and was knowledgable about O'Sullivan, and actually said on the day of the draft, right after the trade was made, that with the Lewis pick he was trusting the scouting staff that Lewis was a good pick (the same scouting staff he later ultimately replaced with his own guys) because he wasn't terribly familiar with him.

I can't say DL didn't want the extra first rounder for return on Demitra (along with Sully), but I can say he didn't specifically want Lewis as a "linchpin" in the deal. At least based on his statements from the floor of the draft on draft day.

But I could be wrong...

I know first hand that Marc Crawford (for what it's worth)thought highly of Lewis, and considered him a future 3rd line two-way center in the NHL and probably would've given him a chance this season if he was still here... so the kid has a chance to help us.

Thank you, Dean Lombardi.

While lynch-pin is possibly over-stating it slightly, it's more inaccurate to call Trevor Lewis a mere third-liner. He's got an excellent all-around game, a decent amount of grit, solid defensive sense, agility, finish. It's not possible to know exactly what's possible for him at the NHL level. To say he'll probably be a third or second line player is just to admit that nobody really knows if he'll find the back of the net consistently with the big boys. As Rich said, last year his numbers were not up to par; this year, he's having the season he should have had last year. Fine. Now he's getting his shot.

With a little bit of luck, we'll have a deadly line of Lewis/Boyle/Moller before too long.

That would be something Quisp.

For now, I hope Richardson gets healthy. Can you imagine the speed of Richardson/Lewis on a line together? Insane.

Right now, until Moller gets back and Boyle learns his lesson, I'd be happy with Lewis-Richardson-Armstrong, or Armstrong-Lewis-Ivanans if Richardson is hurt as bad as we worry he may be.

Merry Xmas Quisp! Didn't you just ask for labs to be waived too? I hope your track record serves us well!

Here's to Lewis making an impact. First NHL games are always fun.

I just hope he proves me wrong...wouldn't be the first one, won't be the last one.

I wouldn't mind a line of Lewis/Boyle/Moller having success though...I could live with that.

mrbrett -

my own reaction to Lewis at the camps was different than yours. At (at least) three different camps (prospect and/or training) I had to look up the number of a player who did something great and each time it turned out to be Lewis. Okay, not entirely true: summer before last, it was either Lewis or Moller every time.

As far as Lewis getting plugged in between Ivanans and Zeiler...I wouldn't count on it. Could happen. But I think TM will want to see what Lewis has got. He's going to get at least some playing time on the other three lines.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the left wing with Stoll and Brown. That's what I'm hoping for.

Quisp - I'm still wondering what type of players Brown is going to be at his best with?
If that 4th line is Lewis/Boyle/Moller soon, I could live with it, for sure, but I wonder what our lineup will look like and what the groupings will be.
I'm liking our top 3 lines right now, but wonder if there isn't an even more potent mix.
I'm wondering what
Moller/Zus/Simmonds could do while
Frolov/(boyle)(lewis)/Brown skates together?

I don't know. I've yet to see Lewis, but if we could maximize scoring and lose nothing on the defensive end we'll be "golden."

I'd love to see Kings fans singing this in unison at the end of games.
