Noon practice today
It's not great for the schedule today, but I'll be out in El Segundo because I think it's a particularly interesting day to talk to Terry Murray and the players about how things are going. Seems to be a crucial time right now. Things were going well and now there's a wobble in several areas of the Kings' game, so we'll see what players think and maybe get some insights into some of Murray's decision-making recently.

Can you also find out the situation with Frolov? If he is got hurt or not??
It's the DECEMBER TO REMEMBER MONTH!!!
Look at SJ with 43Points and 3 losses!! and NO REGULATION losses at HOME!!
Can the Calder experiment be called a collosal failure already? move on Terry please hes not 1st line material at all.
Can you find out why the grinders play so much when the team is trailing? regardless of the struggles of Kopitar, Sully, et al, I think the "offensive" players should play in those situations, if only because they possess the skills neccessary to score. Would you rather have the puck on the stick of Armstrong or Kopitar when the team is down by one in the last two minutes? Nothing against Armstrong, but my money would be on Kopitar.
Starting to have real doubts about Terry Murray. When I see Armstrong on the ice with the goalie pulled in the last minute, i want to throw things.
Can you please find out how Jack Johnson's strength test went?
Defensively the Kings seem to be going in the right direction and with Ersberg the goaltending seems to be settling down. It's the lack of scoring that bothers me. In my opinion that problem begins with the PP. If you fix the PP, it seems like they'd start winning some of these close games they let slip away. I'm not suggestion they fire Kompon, but would it hurt to give someone else on the staff a chance to get the PP turned around? It's not working and it's just painful to watch over and over and over.
Thanks for being our always intrepid Kings reporter, Rich!! I don't know what we'd do without you. Tell the boys not to give up...their fans (at least this one) aren't giving up on them:)
I agree Rich. These are crucial times.
If this team continues to follow the guidance of this weak coach, we'll be looking forward to lottery again.
The team will be out of contention before 2009.
I really had high hopes for this coach. But I realize now that his style fits the NHL teams of the 70's and 80's.
He is out of touch with the new fast paced NHL. The rules are changing to make the game faster and high scoring. This weak person decides to live in the past. That's why we have no offense. While Other teams are averaging 3-4 goals a game while we average around 1.5 goals a game. How pathetic considering the talented players we have.
The only option is to fire this weak has been. But DL won't do that. If he fires him, he'll soon follow. That's too bad, we could killed to chickens with one stone.
Hey Anthony,
What is so weak about this coach? And what's not weak about Anthony?
anthony...just out of curiosity, who signed (to extensions i mean) and drafted a lot of the young talent on this team? why i think that would be dean lombardi.
kopitar, brown, and sully were all signed by dl to multi-year extensions
oscar moller was a 2nd round steal by dl
sully was trade for by...who??.....dl
who signed handzus (our best defensive forward by far imo)?...dl
if gave dl some credit for his successes occasionally, your criticisms would have a little more credibility
Please ask him why Kyle "hands of stone" Calder, a guy who's been playing on the top line & the power play and has amassed 2 goals & 3 assists for the season, is still being used as if he was a star forward.
Anthony, that is just idiotic. Now and then you make a few half-way almost semi-valid points but then you blow it with a senseless rant like that. I think I'll just skip reading your posts, until you stop bleating about "weak has-been coaches" etc, it's not worth the time.
The Kings are playing better team defense than last year and much improve Goaltending. I actually am excited to go to games because we have the "opportunity" to win every game unlike last year.
You can't see it on TV but at Staples you can see it on their face. TM methods are getting to the players, every shift worrying about a mistake. Slamming their stick on the ice, skating back to the bench. The frustration of the line juggling.
4 lines only works if you have DEEP talent, we have enough for 2 scoring lines, a stopper line, and a hitting line. Thats it. TM wake up. Team are wearing us down we're not wearing them down.
Also where is the leadership and camaraderie we saw in the preseason and the first 4 or 5 games. No Greene, no O'Donald, no Caulder, no Brown, no one speaking up in the press. Armstrong is the only one showing leadership. Ivanas and Army are the only ones constantly coming to the teammates aid.
JJ will help in Jan. but we need help now on defense with Harold and Preissing, you can see the fear in their face every time they go for the puck behind the net or in the corner. Quincey is the best waiver pick up in history.
I agree....IT'S DECEMBER! For King's Hockey fans, usually NOT the "most wonderful time of the year"! It's usually the time of year we fall fast to the cellar...and stay there in the dark, cold, musty dungeon! UGH!
The results of JJ's strength tests won't indicate whether he can take a hit or deliver one. Even though the Kings could probably use him now, I'd prefer that they don't rush him back into the lineup.
anthony my friend, i have a question for you... how long have you been watching hockey? i ask that becuase there was rarely any defense ever played in the nhl in the 70's and 80's. defense, also known as the "clutch and grab" came around in the 90's. it became so bad that the nhl was forced to change the rules in order to open up the game again, meaning allowing for true skating and more potential offense. tm's style of d is not clutch and grab, it is zone d and aggressive forechecking. so no, he is not out of touch, he is progressive with his d. offense is another issue.
also your stats are way off. in 24 games this season the kings have allowed only 67 goals. that is about 2.8 goals/game. that is down about a half a goal from last season. that is a huge improvement. in 24 games this season the kings have scored 62 goals. that is about 2.6 goals/game. 2.6 is a lot different from 1.5. its pretty simple math that you should have learned in grade school. i'll take scoring less goals if it means our d is that much better.
i just can't understand how you can't see how much better we are than last year and how much better we will continue to get when everyone finally gets it. the goal scoring will come around. playing d is the harder thing to do. limiting shots and overpowering your opponent will win you the cup. we are at the beginning of a long journey, try to enjoy the ride.
i guess you never took the pch ride and walked on the sand.
I have an idea, how about you all stop responding to Anthony? The guy is obviously a full-blown idiot and it's pretty clear to me that his posts are an attempt to get a rise out of the rest of you. It's working...so just try passing up his babbling nonsense and just maybe he'll go away.
Firstly, I echo Meg’s comments.
Secondly, I'm always amazed by the pessimistic comments from some posters on this blog. We have a young team that will make mistakes. Yes - big mistakes, disheartening mistakes leading to disheartening losses. But try to keep the faith.
I think TM is doing a fine job. He surely has his reasons for keeping Calder with Kopi and Brownie – perhaps he sees/knows something we don’t, or he’s grooming players in some way for the bigger picture. Whatever the reason, when the team loses that is when they could use our support and patience the most – not continuous criticism.
Go KINGS GO!!!
For a team that I expect to finish 20-22nd in the league this year...they're only 3 points out of a playoff spot right now.
Better than I thought. I've voiced my issues earlier so I'll halt from doing it again.
Put Armstrong in the press box is my only request.

First off - Anthony's comments are ridiculous and ludicrous. Anyone have a firefox extension to make his comments invisible. Seriously.
Secondly - I'm glad we don't have a coach who panicks or a GM. Every team goes through rough spots in the season and bottom line this team is still way ahead of what many expected. Work out a few kinks - get Calder off the first line - fix the PP - regain confidence, and they'll be back in business. As soon as Kopitar finds his game and JJ is back I'm sure this team will do just fine playing the D they have been all season. It's still early and we can't forget this is a brand new coach and an extremely young team.
