Possible injury?
Alexander Frolov, who scored the Kings' first goal, didn't take a shift after the four-minute mark of the third period. I'll find out tomorrow at practice what the issue was there...

I don't think he's hurt. He just got benched because he was busy watching the puck and not guarding Lisin as he scored into a wide open net.
Pure speculation here, but Fro may have blown the coverage on Lisin's easy redirection goal and gotten benched. Regardless, another disappointing loss and rotten 3rd period.
I agree withMel and Bruce.
Frolov loves to score goals and as a result he cheats a bit, leaving players wide open.
He doesn't like playing defense so this 58 year old experienced coach gave him a seat.
Sean O'Donnell didn't fare any better, he was posing for a picture during that 2nd goal.
Rich how do we Kings fans show our disapproval of Terry Murray's choice of putting Calder on the top line. I feel like we need it to be known, its our team and we as fans all agree Calder should not be pair with Kopi and Brown. Seriously is there anything we can do?
Anthony--Frolov is one of the top two-way talents in the conference. Might have blown that particular assignment tonight, but you'll rarely see him cheating, and that certainly wasn't the case on that particular goal.
KingRu...that's a joke, right? If you don't like the way things are going...then don't go. Boom! Problem solved.
Terry Murray is a bridge coach for this team. He is a teacher and good with young players. If this team ever becomes a serious contender I seriously doubt that TM will be the coach. He has done a good job of improving this team defensively which is the first step to seriously being a playoff contender which this team is not as of yet. It is not his fault that the offensive core is not producing the way they should.
KingRu, don't waste your time.
This 59 year old experienced coach is very stuborn.
He loves having Calder on that line and there's nothing anybody can do about it.
He thinks his style is perfect and he thinks he's perfect.
Trying to reason with him is like asking Ivanans not to take bad penalties.
Albert Einstein once said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.
Take this anyway you like, but doesn't that sound like one of this blogs most prolific posters.
Benching your top goal scorer for one play??? Have you been watching the LA Kings or are you just smoking something?? Fro has been the scoring spark this season, assisting and scoring himself. How stupid would that be to bench him for leaving an open man, it seems other players left him open also. If he's hurt we're in real trouble.
Frolov is one of the top two way players in the game. Everyone makes mistakes once in a while, even the best.
Perspective yes, emotional posting no!
Anthony, what is with this ridiculous obsession you have with Murray's age?
Ken Hitchcock is 57; Andy Murray is 57; Bruce Boudreau is 53; Tom Renney is 53; Joel Quenneville is 50; Mike Kennan is 59; Jacques Lemaire is 63. Murray ain't a young guy by any means, but most of the coaches in the NHL are in their mid to late 40s. What do you care about Murray's age?
You never answered my question from another post--what would you be doing differently? It takes ZERO effort to repeat that Calder sucks, or Murray is bad, or blah blah blah. I'm very curious as to what you think should be done instead. Wouldn't that be more fun than just spouting the same tired lines over and over again?
i have to ask. what does TM's age have to do with anything? Too young? Too old? What's the point? How is any coach different than TM?
the kings win and it's because of the players; kings lose and it's because of the coach. praise for a win and blame for a loss cut both ways.
How come he didn't bench Preissing as he watched Lisin skate right by him, take the puck, then let Harrold chase him down before Lisin scored the game winner.
I expect a defensive call-up tomorrow.
My guess is, Preissing is the first to be dealt!
If Terry Murray really benched Frolov, it's going to backfire.
Those tactics would work with rookies and pluggers, but when you bench the best player..it only pisses him off, and his teammates. You can bet your arse the guys in the lockerroom are wondering what the hell he was thinking.
You know what scares me? It's the month of DECEMBER. You know what that means as a kings fan. If we lose against the Oilers on Friday, kiss the season goodbye.
anthony is right, tm's the reason the kings are so bad!
this just in, terry murray is hiding the wmd's in iraq...
breaking news, terry murray was just found guilty of bringing down the hindenberg... more to follow...
even more breaking news, terry murray was just discovered as the person hiding jimmy hoffa in his backyard in canada... more to follow...
this just in, early reports suggest that "58 year old" terry murray was responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs...
isn't this news shocking???
have a good night anthony.
wow, you guys are way off. Frolov got railed by Mueller from behind trying to jam a puck thru tellquist. If forwards got benched for bad D play, then Kopitar would have the least TOI on te time. I don't buy that.
anthony = the sean avery of "inside the kings"...without the fashion bug. ;-)
jonny> or TM just gives kopitar and brown a free pass, not to mention calder. remember when he benched preissing for FIVE GAMES after a single defensive lapse, but lets gauthier and ivanans go out there during the last shift of games after their numerous game-costing gaffes? TM plays favorites, and doesn't hide it very well. not only that, while crawford whined after games, TM appears to act calm, but takes it out on his whipping boys. before, this was limited to maybe preissing, boyle, and richardson, which didn't hurt the team too much, but if fro gets on that list, then we're dead...
Can we get a "Is Sean Avery Good for the NHL?" poll?
Frolov suffered a serious eye injury last night....
Yep, he hurt both eyes watching the inept play of Kopitar and O'Sullivan all night long and was sent to the dressing room because he couldn't take it any longer.
Say what you want about Calder, but at least the guy is giving it his all every single shift.
Our "leaders" are tanking, and Kopitar has either lost it or has basically decided to take the money and run.
And the "magnificent" POS is both a turnover machine and a guy who consistently fires shots from impossible angles.
Don't expect a response from Anthony...a good well thought out one anyway. There have a few posts regarding his disregard for facts and his love of name calling and insults towards TM and DL for that matter. But not once has he ever had the nerve to respond...mostly because there was nothing he could really say.
He's one of the first to post on every thread and it's the same things every post. He's also been called on that with no response. SO why bother?
Wow...angry crowd today. I agree Jonny. I saw the play you are referring to. TM isn't about benching guys for blown plays. Case in point: Gauthier.
More importantly...the season is young, the Kings are much better off than last year, and all of a sudden it seems that all the talk of being patient and understanding of the youth movement's ups and downs is out the window. Did you guys really expect the Kings to be a contender this year?
Earth to pessimistic kings fans: get over it, this is gonna take time.
Anthony is a troll. Please stop feeding him.
Hey, anything to get the lines juggled, so that down by a goal we get to see O'Sullivan skating with Richardson and Simmonds is... "ok in my book?????" IF I WANT TAVARES...
Problem is, we have hit the black hole and it's dark...
Seriously... you need offense so you put one of your most creative forwards with two guys who combined for one goal between 'em? WHAT THE *&^%.

Maybe Fro was benched for dating one of Avery's ex-girlfriends.
WOW...The sky is falling quickly here.
This is what happens when you have a young team trying to learn how to win. They are struggling right now and have probably lost a little confidence going into the 3rd periods.
No way Fro would have been benched at the end of the game. Cmon people..use some common sense here.
Let's hope it's nothing serious. He's been one of our best players this year.
This team keeps taking bad penalties. The Richardson penalty was pathetic. It was a totally lazy penalty. Phoenix didn't score on the PP, but bad penalties usually turn momentum around. I'll be interested to see if TM continues to play Richardson or if he goes back to Zeiler? So far, I have been extrememly disappointed in what I've seen from Richardson. We gave up a 2nd round pick for this guy, ha?
As for KingRu....are you serious? Please explain to us all how you are an expert in Hockey? I'm sure you've coached at the NHL level that you feel that you're qualified to tell the head coach..who by the way has taken his teams to the Stanley Cup finals, how he should use his players. How about you apply for the job of GM/coach and then you can do as you please. Is this some type of interactive game that we're watching?
Each time i think I've read the dumbest post...a new contender arrives. Congrats KingRu!
Sorry Rich...its nothing personal against KingRu, but that was really bad!
PS computer not cooperating, so I apologize if this posts multiple times.
Frolov was benched after leaving Lisin open on the second goal. I DVR'd the game, and went back and reviewed the 3rd period. He was shown on the bench in the 3rd, but he never took the ice after that mistake.
I can't understand how Terry Murray will throw a guy like Gauthier back out there for his next shift after gifting a goal to the Wings, but benches the teams hottest player during the 3rd period of a one goal game.
I thought they rolled out the red carpet before games actually started (just ask Manny Legacy).
There were two red carpets on that second Phoenix goal directly in front of the Kings net. One for Lisin who scored the goal and another one for his teammate right next to him. So much for the Kings defensive prowess. Hopefully, Frolov got coach Murray's message loud and clear.
Enough already with Calder on the first line. Let's get somebody who can actually finish, eh?
Remember the Kings famed Triple Crown Line of the early 80's? Just imagine what that line might have looked like if John Paul Kelly was on the left wing instead of Charlie Simmer?
It's time to snap out of your slumber Terry Murray!! This is not the time of year for you to be hibernating.
Lets all just relax, I know we all really want to make a playoff run this year but let's keep an eye on the prize. We will see glimmers of greatness from these kids but as we can all see we are still missing a few key players.
DL has said many times that the only way to build a team the right way is through the draft. We are 4 points out of last place with 8 teams below us. it's all a numbers game. Win some lose some, but all along teaching fundamentals and the system. We have players that will be gone next year opening up more spots for the kids to fill and a good class of kids in the next draft. Next year our goalies will be up, the defensive system will be perfected and our young snipers will be playing. Just enjoy the game
Just my opinion, Go Kings
Wouldn't it be funny if actual King players read this blog and even posted replies as "Anonymous" to fire a shot back at their fickle fans or even chastise their coach and fellow team mates? That would be funny...
David said: Remember the Kings famed Triple Crown Line of the early 80's? Just imagine what that line might have looked like if John Paul Kelly was on the left wing instead of Charlie Simmer?
LOL... remember when Simmer broke his leg? We had to endure Dionne-Taylor-HOPKINS for a stretch, and until you watched Dean Hopkins play for a few years, a guy like Kyle Calder may have never bothered you.
If TM does hv whipping boys, add O'Sullivan to that list.
Some coaches do that. Not great coaches, though. Fro usually plays pretty solid and plays D. Seems to me there were 2 open Coyotes on that play so at least 2 Kings missed coverage.
Fox commented that was the first blown coverage goal he recalled this year, which is a BIG improvement over last year anyway. Not that losing doesn't sit poorly.
Annonymous,
Are you really Calder or Army? LOL
