The timeout

| | Comments (5) |

Some of you have debated Terry Murray using his timeout in the first period. Here's what he said about why he took it:
``The players that were on the ice were out there for about 50 seconds. About 30 seconds of that was in our end. There were a couple guys that were a little tired. It was just a break. Get your wind because they have to stay out on the ice on an icing situation. It just bought them 30 seconds. Probably a minute. And that's enough to recover. ... It's a 0-0 game, you've got to be careful. You expose some players to fatigue and they've made a change with fresh players coming at you, that's the margin of error that can be there in the game. You've got to be careful and manage it the right way. If you have a timeout available to you, take it. There's no sense saving it until the end of the game. You might not have to use it. I wanted to give the players the break, and it worked.''

Who one earth would have debated that? (Do I really need to go back and read those comments?) Seriously, that's one of the few things that made sense about Terry Murray's decision making over the past month or two :)

Our power play is miserable and stagnant. last season, it was our only bright spot. This year, there doesn't seem to be much fluidity at all. i like stoll on the point, but he needs to shoot when he has the opportunity. How many times last night did he pass up open shots only to plunk it right into the skates of the defender.

And yes, the ice at Staples screwed us out of a goal on that 4 on 3 with brownie. there is just no way to fix the ice either....unless we move back to the forum!

When Murray called the timeout I wondered why. Bad timing and I'm disappointed in the coach. It would have been helpful to have the timeout in the last 2 minutes. Murray brings a lot of positives, but lacks some of the nuances of a premiere coach. Maybe he's still getting up to speed on the new NHL and will get better, though.
The ice does suck and it makes for a sloppy game where our skilled guys can't do what they're capable of. Both teams play on it, though. Doesn't mean I can't dream that the Kings would move back to the Forum.

ETR...so you would have rather have had exhausted players out there in a tight game?

It was a stellar call my Murray.

Actually the score was probably 1-0 at the time, but I still follow TM's reasoning.
