Back in black

A report on the Kings' website explains why the Kings have been wearing their dark jerseys on the road. Dallas requested to wear its white jerseys at home in Saturday's game, so the Kings requested that they be allowed to wear their dark jerseys in all three road games. It certainly makes sense for the Kings, and allowed them to pack only one set of jerseys/gear, not two.

We should wear black all year around. I love those jerseys.

I'm not a big fan of the "Back in Black" jerseys. I wish the NHL would go back to its old policy of home whites and dark road jerseys. Just my $0.02 worth.

I loveeee the Black jerseys. I agree with markisonfire. All year around. Although the boys tend to not do so well in the third jersey. Superstitious of me to notice that isn't it.

Home whites, Dark road jerseys. Why did they change that? They seem to play better at home when they wear white.

Just my 2 cents

I wish we can bring back our old purple 3rd jersey.
Our current 3rd jersey is uggggggggggggggggly.
With that white arm band, its a cross between a soccer uniform and a junior high school hall monitor.

All teams changed to wearing the whites on the roads because a lot of home teams wanted the option of using the 3rd (special jersey) at home in addition to the "standard home jersey". All of those special jerseys are colored or black (but never white). When they wore the specials, the road team then had to wear white. When the home team wore shite, the road team had to wear dark. This was causing road teams to have to pack their "white jerseys" for games when the home teams wore specials and their "dark jerseys" for games when the home team wore the standard white. Just reduced the amount of gear teams had to pack when traveling.

That's why the league changed, but I miss the whites at home myself.

Thanks Rich! I was wondering about that. I remember under Melrose, the Kings did something similar, but (if memory serves me) I think they wore dark at home (when white was the home jersey) because they felt they played better on the road. They did that for a stretch of games. Does anyone remember that?

Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town,
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime,
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those who never read,
Or listened to the words that Jesus said,
About the road to happiness through love and charity,
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes,
But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back,
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old,
For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold,
I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been,
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,
Believen' that the Lord was on their side,
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,
Believen' that we all were on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right I know,
And things need changin' everywhere you go,
But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right,
You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day,
And tell the world that everything's OK,
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black.

They should have taken the 3rd Jerseys with them. The new 3rd jerseys look sweet! Love how they made them similar to the old black and silver. Hopefully they will follow suit with the white and change those next years so that way the new 3rd Jerseys become our standard. And yep was kind of curious what was going on in Dallas then remembered Dallas changed their 3rd jerseys to being just white.

old man - would be great to hear that pumping through STAPLES every night, wouldn't it?

andrew, i believe in the 75th anniversary season, the league switched after the all star break to dark at home and white on the road just as a temporary thing, because in the original 6 days, teams wore dark at home. when the league expanded to 12 teams in 1967 and road trips got longer, it made sense to switch to dark because they were easier to clean. I prefer white at home simply because it gives u a chance to see the visiting teams more colorful jersey, but as long as teams want to market alternate 3d jerseys, dark at home is probably here to stay. I also would like to see the Kings return to purple and gold as their alternate. Funny how people thought those jerseys were ugly and garish, but their the same colors as Lakers, and nobody complains about them.

Just want to second this idea.
I like the new 3rd, but would love the Kings to be old-school purple, and old-school gold for their everyday colors like in the early 70's.

Anyone have an explanation why the "Forum Blue" looked so purple instead of blue on TV last night?

Quisp Author Profile Page said:

Purple - yes, I noticed this too. It was noticeably more purple than usual. Undoubtedly this has to do with how the cameras are calibrated and/or how the signal is processed at the source. I noticed that the purple in the graphics (on the banner at the top of the screen) was not affected. I've long thought that Kings broadcasts show the jerseys as being less purple than they really are, so it was extra noticeable to see it go in the opposite direction. Or maybe it was just showing the colors accurately and I'm just used to the other look.

I sometimes think the Kings should not only go back to the purple and gold but go back to the gold pants too. I know, I know...

No Quisp.

I agree.
Gold Pants and Purple Pants.
It's difficult to find pictures of the uniforms from that Vachon era,
but I would love to see that entire scheme return, along with the old-school crown.

A couple years ago the throw-back jersey was really cool, but matched with the black pants and helmets, it was pretty hideous.

So, I'd like to cast my vote for support of the purple/gold jerseys, pants, socks, and BUCKETS - even though its probably about as meaningful as a vote for Nader.
