Brown postgame quotes

As you might imagine, it wasn't a very happy Kings locker room after the game. Terry Murray talked to the team for a while, and then the players had a closed-door meeting that lasted about 10 to 15 minutes. Afterward, here's what captain Dustin Brown said.

(on the loss...)
``We didn't get the performance we needed from anybody in this room.''

(on the response -- or lack thereof -- to the hit on Doughty...)
``OD went after the guy and he didn't want to fight OD, and it kind of was forgotten after that. (Doughty) has been probably our best defenseman all year. When one of your key players gets hit like that, you have to answer the bell.''

(on whether it was a dirty hit...)
``I can't comment on it actually. I didn't see it.''

(on what the team needs to do in order to turn things around...)
``I think it's just about our compete level. You look at tonight. It's not about our Xs and Os, it's about our willingness to do whatever it takes, and tonight we didn't have that. We're not a good enough team to rely on our skill or anything else. We need to come to work and prepare to work, and tonight we didn't do that. It doesn't matter if we're playing Detroit or Tampa. It's the same mentality.''

Captain, you need to lead the way. Show how it's done. We know you've been leading by example all season long, but we need extra. This is a crucial time of the season, this is where the separation is the standings begins.

Just got back from the game. Boy was that a mess. I hope Brownie knew what came with being named captain, because this is really going to test his mentality and leadership the rest of this season. Unless everyone unites and steps up their game, this team is going to tank in the second half.

Once again the only one who seemed to be attacking was Simmonds....drive to the net shoot. So tired of seeing Fro and Kopi with the puck just to get it poke checked away.

Theres a new game in town its called Randomized Lines. I'll be on hand for thursdays game....who wants to take a bet at what the lines are. Fro-Ivanans-Parking Lot Attendant. Seriously TM get your lines straight and stick with them, thats why we're getting beat.

I hope TM doesn't get fired now.
The longer DL keeps this embarassment around, the sooner AEG wil fire DL.
Two heads for the price of one.

This loss wasn't about Doughty's unfortunate injury.
It wasn't about the lack of scoring.
It wasn't about the Defense or goaltending.
Its about this team having an incompetant coach.
Now when your the coach, doesn't that mean you have a duty to teach as well.
Does this guy know anything about offense or the power play.
Shouldn't he or Jaime Tampon teach the players how to set the power play.
Kopitar is a playmaker. And today I noticed him hanging around the point. What the hell is a playmaker stationed at the point. Should he not be behind the net setting up the forwards.
Sully is a sniper. He has a pretty good shot.
What the hell is he doing along the half boards near the goal line. Should he not be stationed near the slot so he can better utilize his shot.
Does this person know what to do on the power play. Does he have a clue on how to teach or even coach.
And once again, he gave Ivanans a normal shift until the final four minutes of the 3rd period. Too bad he wasn't penalized for more than 15 minutes.

Its a hopeless situation.
If any of you guys out their truly believe this team will ever makes the playoffs under this coach - STOP sniffing the glue.
As long as TM is the coach, this team will NEVER NEVER NEVEr never never EVER make the playoffs.
He's not a complete coach.
And to be out matched by a convicted felon, SHAME ON YOU.

At least Brownie said what had to be said to the rest of the team and what all of us thought when we saw the hit on Doughty....

Then why the hell didn't Brown do it himself?

Anthony, What other sites do you troll around on trying to get a rise out of everyone?? Kinda funny. You must be bored.

I dont know what your obsession is with murray, but how bout the players getting out played, out muscled, and taking garbage penalties.

Yes we are in a scoring slump, we get it. Eventually the scoring will come, hopefully we dont give up to much D to get it going. Eventually we will find a balance.

Patience people, remember we were picked to be damn near dead last in the league...... Its called growing pains.

I was reading earlier tonight on TSN that a lot of people are questioning Crosby's leadership in Pittsburgh because maybe he is too young to be a captain and he doesn't know what to do to help his team turn things around and break out of their slump.

I'm starting to think the same thing about Brown. He is really young and while he is pretty talented and works hard I'm starting to question whether he has what it takes yet to be a team captain. I don't know if anyone on this team does since they are all so young and those who are older are not really the types who command enough respect to be captain.

I wonder if Murray should have done a revolving captaincy like some teams have done in the past, so that several of the young players could have gotten a taste of what it's like to shoulder that responsibility. I think Brown has enough on his plate in learning the defensive system and also trying to provide some offense that maybe also being a full time captain is a little too much. Whereas if the burden was spread among the players they could all be learning something as well as improving their games.

You are hilarious. Please stop with your opinions because you are making yourself look like a fool. Blaming the coach for where the guys are standing on the power play is ridiculous. Yes the coach gives them a certain setup that he would like to see out there, but once the puck starts moving around, you can't expect the players to just stand in the EXACT spot the coach told them to for the whole shift. Players that are on the ice are ultamitley the ones who decide how the power play is going to work and where they will be moving to on the ice. Dean Lombardi has done more with this team in his 3 years than Dave Taylor did in his entire term here. Same goes for Terry Murray. We're what, 10 points ahead of where we were last year at this time? Ya that sounds like a horrible coach alright. I seem to remember during this past offseason all you did was complain that we would be worse than last year and complained when we didn't sign any players, and you also called Quincy a "no name scrub who won't make the lineup and a waste of our waiver claim" when we picked him up.

Wow I hope you never have a kid who plays organized hockey, I can see that you'll be THAT parent who complains all the time that their kid doesn't get enough ice time and blame the coach and try to rally all the other parents to have him fired and they'll all just talk about you behind your back instead.

Murray is not the problem it is the players on the ice that have to take responsibility. The Kings have not improved that much over last year and if you believe that they have you are not seeing the big picture. They have played twice as many games at home than they have on the road and until they play about 15 more game on the road judging their record is ridiculous. 28
games at home and they have actually won 12. They have improved defensively (until recently) but taken two steps back offensively. Their "core " players are the ones to blame since their numbers are all down across the board with the exception of Frolov's goal count.
This team needed some veterans that know how to win and DL has countered by bringing up a bunch of AHL players. The veterans he has brought in for the most part have been useless. Handzus has been decent this year but is too slow to be as effective as he was a few years ago. Preissing cannot even get on the ice and Calder would be a scratch on just about any good team. This team is being led by young players who have not learned how to win and it is creating a losing culture. As far as DL doing more than Taylor all he has done is draft a bunch of prospects who may be good
down the road or may just as easily bust. He has had 3
years to bring in a bonafide #1 goaltender and has not done it. Kings wasted last year playing Babs when it should have been obvious that he could never be a #1
and Ersberg should have gotten more time so that they could get a better read on his abilities. Is this team
going to learn how to win by continuously losing?

Garrett,

Brown has to grow into that role and while the team is young and struggling is a perfect time. They weren't expected to make the playoffs anyway so if he can grow into the roll over a couple of years, when they're competing for the top spots he'll be ready.

Babcock believes you can teach offense.

This coaching staff had better wise up fast or Lombardi needs to get some players who already know the craft. Raw talent alone gains you nothing in this league and we have way too many middle tier players on this team. The Kings must aquire two bonafide proven scorers or our young players will die on the vine.

Wake up Lombardi!
