Goalie thoughts
Here's what Terry Murray said this afternoon about the Kings' goaltending situation. As previously posted, Erik Ersberg traveled back to L.A. for more tests today, and Jonathan Quick will start in goal tomorrow at Minnesota.
Question: Any update on Ersberg's status?
MURRAY: ``He has gone back (to L.A.) so he will definitely be out for these next two games and then we'll have an opinion when we get back home. The good thing is, he has extra time with the all-star break coming up, but unfortunately for him, he's missing the chance to go play during the all-star break.''
Question: I know you went into the trip thinking that Quick and Ersberg would split these next two games. Has that thought changed?
MURRAY: ``I was thinking of splitting them when Quick and Ersberg were here. That was the thought I had coming on the road trip, but Quick will play tomorrow. Bernier was able to get a good practice in today, but I'm leaning toward Quick for the game in Colorado as well.''

The team has been losing bad lately.
Why not give Bernier a shot against Colorado.
Since the team is losing, it can't hurt.
Dear Terry-
Do you honestly feel you can beat Detroit or San Jose in a 7-game series? That's what I thought.
Split the games for cryin' out loud.
Dear Terry,
Quick is still playing great. Keep playing him. Bernier will eventually get his chance, but don't just play him because "the team will lose anyway". That's not a great situation to be in for an already struggling young goalie.
Stick to Quick until he performs bad or gets tired. He's deserved the starts.
I bet TM is taking the safe stance here...Lets see how quick plays tomorrow. I can almost guarantee that if he has a poor outing we might see Bernier. But still...just being devil's advocate as always, who's to say Quick won't come out and shut it down back to back? I think we all agree that he is in fact that capable...right?
Quick is capable. What's one game? We're not asking Terry to dump Quick for Bernier. We took a chance with Quick, right?
Unwritten NHL Rule No.1....
Never start a goalie in a back to back situation unless you have to, especially on the road.
