Post-practice notes
If it wasn't already apparent, we're having some blog server issues today, so my apologies for that. I'll try to post as much stuff as possible today and dodge the outages the best I can.
Some quick stuff from today...
-- Today's line shakeup could be tweaked again tomorrow, since Oscar Moller is expected to play. Looking at the way the Kings skated today, I'm not really sure where he might fit in, although that spot currently occupied by Kyle Calder, with Michal Handzus and Dustin Brown, might seem to make the most sense.
-- Jonathan Quick will start in goal tomorrow. He's feeling better and made it through the entire practice today.
-- Brad Richardson participated in a regular, full practice today. It would seem that he's still a couple days away from being activated, but when he's ready to go, the Kings will have to make a roster move.
I've got some stuff from Terry Murray about the changes, etc., and some stuff from Kopitar about the offensive woes and about skating with Frolov for the first time since...well, ever. Kopitar said he and Frolov skated together early in Kopitar's first training camp, but never during the regular season. That seems about right, according to my memory as well. Hopefully, the blog will remain stable enough for me to post more stuff...

Hey Rich,
Webblogs Awards 2008 are going on right now and I am shocked not to your name up on the list. What gives? This blog is the best. Thank you for all your hard work.
Thanx for working through the blog issues Rich. It's still the best in all sports!
Quick is back....glad you're feeling better.
Who would have thought the Kings would, at this point in the season have a goaltending problem, not a "who can keep the puck out of the net" problem but a "who is the better goalie to keep the puck out of the net" problem. It's weird for sure but a much welcomed problem for LA.
The competition is healthy, although I'd perfer a solid No. 1. Sharing the duties however can keep both goalies fresh for a possible....playoff run???
Go Kings!
"I'm not really sure where he might fit in, although that spot currently occupied by Kyle Calder, with Michal Handzus and Dustin Brown, might seem to make the most sense."
Makes the most sense but I will be shocked if Terry actually scratches him.
The Richardson problem is more interesting to me. For some reason, I thought that he was going on extended IR. If he's ready to come back, DL has a decision to make. He obviously has another such decision in three weeks when Johnson is activated.
In both cases, he has to send someone down, or make room via a trade. I'm guessing he's already looking to move Preissing and Calder...maybe Armstrong (but I doubt it). If he isn't able to make a trade like that, bringing back picks, in the next week, he'll have to choose who to send down. The list is:
Richardson (who would get picked up, wasting the pick we traded to get him)
Calder or Preissing (who would probably clear waivers on the way down, but probably not on the way up; thus losing DL a pick he might otherwise be able to get in trade)
Zeiler (the fan favorite to be sent down, I guess; maybe mine too...not sure)
Ivanans (DL won't waive him)
Boyle (just got here, so unlikely -- ?)
Purcell (doing well now)
That's it, I guess. Should probably add Zeiler to the list of possible trades, since DL would rather get something for him.
Calder, Preissing and Zeiler are the most vulnerable, in any case. I wouldn't be surprised to see a small trade this week with one of those guys outbound. With Richardson returning, probably two of those guys are gone by February 1. I would say certainly, but that would depend on Boyle and Purcell playing well enough to stick.
