Postgame player quotes

Here are some quotes from the unhappy locker room after the Kings' dreadful 4-0 loss to Detroit:

KINGS FORWARD PATRICK O'SULLIVAN:

(Re: game recap): "Obviously we've been struggling out there for two weeks or so. It's very disappointing. The season can go one way or another right now, and that's what's happened with this organization in the past. Right around this time everything falls apart. Games start to get away from you and then the season is over.''

(Re: going on the road):" Hopefully we can play better on the road. We've been home a lot this first half. We need to win these next three games, is the bottom line. Otherwise we slip further and further away and it gets to the point that it gets impossible to recover. I think it's really important to win these three games and come back with some momentum.''

KINGS FORWARD KYLE CALDER:

(Re: game recap): "This all comes from within and we have to find ways to piece it together. We need 20 guys pulling together. We have to find ways to be better as a team. We can't get into a groove that we have players trying to do it themselves. We have to play as a good group.''

KINGS FORWARD ANZE KOPITAR:

(Re: game recap): We've scored one goal in the last two games here and that just won't cut it. We have to find a way to score and find a way to win. It's that point in the season when you have to keep pushing for the playoffs or you fall back. The past three years we broke apart in this time of the season and were playing for nothing. This road trip coming up is huge for us and we have to find a way to win.''

(Re: team coming together): "We need to look at ourselves and figure it out and how we're going to step up in the key moment. We're going to need 20 guys to win games. Not just 15 guys or so, but 20. I think everybody has to bring something to the table, whether you're playing five minutes or 10. We have to find a way to win. This is a time when teams show what they're made of. That's going to be our ultimate test for us."

The drive for a high draft pick has officially begun.DL
will only need another five years of high draft picks to get the team back into the playoffs. LOL
Thanks for the $11.50 tickets. Here is a new motto since prices will be back to regular
AHL team-NHL prices
What happened to DL not wanting to create a losing culture for the youngsters?

Terry Murray is not the answer for this group of players. If one or two were having big a big drop off offensively this year I can see pointing the finger at them to suggest it's something that they're doing (or not doing). When all of the skilled players that were producing regularly the past few seasons are tanking offensively, it's the system in my opinion.

Keeping the GAA down is great, but not at the expense of your entire offense. Granted the line combinations have been very suspect, but with Murray's system you could plug in any of the players that might be available via trade or FA signing and their numbers will nose dive, just like the current roster.

I know it won't happen, but I would be thrilled to see Dean fire Murray out of concern for his own job, which has to be a step closer to being on the line if the trend of 2nd half collapses continues.

Don't let that rah-rah bull crap fool you. They all know what's happening. April golf reservations are now being made in the locker room.

Nobody's a bigger Dustin Brown fan than I am.... And I'm not blaming him solely for their play recently.. but he's been piss poor for two weeks now (the most crucial time). Mentally and physically his play has STUNK! As the captain of this team, he has to lead on the ice... He needs to pick up his game.. PERIOD! A lot of guys need to, but HAS to.

A couple of days ago Bring Back the Shield said it perfectly.
When Tm was named coach, he inherited a good offensive team and bad defensive team.
Now he has succeeded in makeking this team a terrible offensive team and a below average defensive team.

No trade will help this club.
Do you guys really believe that acquiring Gaborik or Kovulchuk will really help the scoring.
NO WAY.
The problem with this team is the 90 year old.
The 90 year old has screwed up the chemistry of this team. The forwards play with no confidence. The forwards are scared to death to make a mistake.
A successful shift is a shift when the other team doesn't score. That's what the forwards are afraid of. They don't want to be on the ice when the opponents score. I can see Stoll and Sully jamming to the bench after 45 seconds on the ice.

Once again the 90 year old was out-coached. Mr. Babcock is involved with the players - talking to them, instructing them. Our statue looks emotionless and passionless.

When he took Sully off the top line line, I wasn't upset. I really wasn't.
But I was upset to see him replaced with that useless Calder.
And Sully gets demoted (why I don't know) to the 4th line with Zeiler and Armstrong.
Why doesn't he ever demote Kopi and Brown in the same manner. Have they done any better?

FIRE THIS COACH OR THE SEASON IS LOST.

The Kings have a great slogan this year:

_____________Pride, Passion, Power____________

It has recently come to light, however, that the first two words and a punctuation mark were omitted. Here they are:

Where's the...?

team has no heart. They are plaing uninspired and with no passion. I don't want to here any of this we lose as a team BS. I want to hear from Kopitar, Brown, and Sully how they are gonna have to pull there heads out of their butts and put the damn puck in the net.

TM is part of the problem as well. He is Losing the locker room at an amazing rate. Dean is also finding out why we need some veteran imact players on this team. A trade is not gonna help. These guys don't deserve reinforcements. I want to see them turn it around on their own.

I am embarrassed to watch this team. I think I am gonna take some accounting classes on Tuesday and Thursday nights. It is a better investment of my time.

Kings your attitude and intensity is a joke. You are pathetic!

All were painted as villians by the Kings.
Too passive,

All their fault, right????

I'm talking about some accountability. Not just this oh we all have to play better. When you ate the leaders of a team it is on you. I want to see some competitiveness and guys who are absolutely disgusted with losing. I want guys who are going to look in the mirror and say " I can do better than this." get on our backs guys we are gonna turn this around.

I don't give a damn about lubo, rob, or mike. I just want dustin, anze, and patrick to sack up and start doing what they are here for. Anze is our best offensive guy, brown needs to go to the net and put other players on their wallets, and patricks job is to tie those two together. Frolov is the onlyguy in my mind filling his role.

Other guys are doing or not doing things as well but these 3 guys are the only ones who are not living up to the roles they accepted when they signed contracts and met with dean after the first week ofthe season.

Enough is enough. In reference to these quotes, Memo to The Kings:

TALK IS F---IN' CHEAP!!!

Please....SHUT UP AND PLAY IT!

Let me repeat:

Mike,

I think there's sufficient evidence that its an institutional mailaise.
What you're blaming todays players for, you were blaming yesterday's players for.

It's Lombardi who put this team together and "built" the foundations of what you're seeing. The coach needs to be on the same page. He needs to be making these players better individually as well as bring them together as a team. The look of panic on Murray's face shows that he's not down with the rebuild in the right manner.

Who knows. I'm at a loss.
For all this, they'll probably come out and play great in the next game.
It's like I said, "Jekyll and Hyde."
We've just been seeing more of Hyde these days, maybe.

No one cares more for Dustin Brown than I do because he is a personal friend. This is why I know how badly this team's lack of success right now is tearing him up. Believe me. Let's remember how old he is and the responsibility he has taken on. As far as I'm concerned, he's shown remarkable strength as Captain and puts it all out on the ice every game. Does anyone watch him on the forecheck / backcheck or on the rush? It's all out every time. Some say he needs to be more of a leader, that he should have stepped up when DD got hit the other night, though I don't recall anyone stepping up for him when he was blindsided by Ovechkin. Oh that's right, he's Dustin Brown the Captain and top hitter in the league. I know what his problem is right now but I don't know how to tell him. He's so hard on himself for not producing that he's not having fun playing the game. In fact I think that's the problem with the whole team. It's a game and it should be fun even though they are professionals getting paid. I have a saying that I used when I coached: when it stops being fun the game's over. I don't think it's over yet for these KIDS on this team but I do feel that when they start to get out from under the pressure and start having fun again, this team will be successful. Thanks for letting me contribute.

Anonymous,

Tell Dustin this is what he gets for playing into DL's hands and signing for too little.
Even Gordie Howe was lied to by his management in Detroit.
You should sign for what the market rates you at.
Tell him to demand a trade out of this pathetic dump of a hockey town.
Tell him Dave Taylor cared about this team and he's gone.
The new leaders have never won a thing and they continually insult King's history.
Tell Dustin he's won as many trophies as Hextall, Murray, and Lombardi.
If they can be so sure of themselves then he should be too.
Take note of how Cammy and Lubo got shipped out so that you can try to carry the load alone.

Tell him not all fans blame the players and that the TEAM is all that matters to us.
We love the Kings DESPITE who owns them or who's coaching.

Tell Dustin to knock Murray on his ass during practice and take over this team, even if it's through MUTINY.
Let Dustin set the lines and lead these guys.

i can't believe some are asking for the coach's head midway thru the season. impulsive decisions like that is exactly how teams stay mediocre...by having 3 coaches and 3 systems for players to learn in 50 games. the team has more points thru 43 games than at this point last season. the defense has dramatically improved (albeit at the expense of some offense) but defense is what wins championships (unless it's the oilers of the mid/late 1980s). it's up to the forwards to figure out their offensive game while remaining sound defensively.

and to say that TM was out-coached by babcock and the red wings is ridiculous. the red wings are the stanley cup champions! they are a very talented team. and guess how they got that way? by not firing coaches or trading prospects. they built their team through the draft (lidstrom, osgood, holmstrom, datsyuk, zetterberg, kronwall, kopecky, filppula, hudler, and franzen). they added UFAs (hossa, rafalski, cleary) and made good trades (maltby and draper).

since 1991 when lidstrom played his first game, the wings have had 4 coaches (babcock, dave lewis, bowman, and bryan murray).

i believe lombardi can do the same thing with this team, but it will take time. so many of you want a quick fix any time there is a slump. slumps build character. slumps bring teams/players together. the team is looking good for the long haul.
