Roster moves

The Kings have assigned Jonathan Bernier and Kevin Westgarth to Manchester. Brad Richardson is back from his conditioning assignment but has not yet been officially activated. I'll try to find out what the means for Erik Ersberg. Since the Kings don't play for another week, it doesn't necessarily mean that Ersberg is ready. Either way, there's no need for those two guys to sit around when they could be playing in Manchester this weekend.

Who has been backing up Taylor in Manchester?

Damn it, I hope Westgarth gets called back up... He's one of the reasons for opening the ice a bit for the skilled players... Not to mention having him along with Ivanans keeps the opposing players honest

should DL try and take Gerber... (was put on waivers)

Dropping Bernier and Westgarth to Manchester might be a move to save money. Guys in AHL make less than NHL and they get to play, too.

Do Bernie and Westie get to party together in 1st class?
That's probably a $10,000 "send down."

Cristobal, who says they are going on the plane. When your in the minors you ride on the iron lung.

Hopefully with the additions of Richardson and Moller, it will spell the end of Zeiler and Calder in a kings uniform.

True Marty, riding the bus is what awaits them in Manchester, but the flight from LA to NH is still on the Kings dime. I believe they do travel back 1st class.

Maybe it was just me, but I didn't see much out of Westgarth. I know it was only 2 games and he didn't get a ton of ice time, but while he was out there, I thought he was pretty quiet for the most part.
Was his presence out there a deterrent? You'd have to hear that from Colorado and Minnesota...only they would know.

nykingfan,

Westgarth only had 2:50 in ice time last night.
Against Minne. he played 4:39.
According to Yahoo Stats/boxscores.

I though he looked like a strong skater.
Would like to have seen him take Zeiler's shift once or twice to see how good a forechecker/agitator he might be.
Pretty tough to get any read on 7 minutes ice-time, though.

Definitely no on Gerber. He's far softer than LaBarbera, in fact. Slow, gives up the big bounces, and doesn't come across as a competitive person, unlike Jason.

Anthony,

I think that Calder has played very effectively the last two games. While that doesn't make up for his performance for the last 40 games, I am willing to see how he does the rest of the season before writing him off the team. As for Zeiler, he seems to fit decently with Zeus and Sully; those players seem to make him a little better. Now with all that said, I'd rather see Moller in his place. I haven't been too impressed with Richardson, so I guess I would leave Calder and add Moller to the lineup.

Unfortunate we didn't get to see Bernier play and saw very little of Westgarth but Quick made up for his "mistake" and saved the game for LA against the Avs. It was a very big win, the biggest thing is that this team would have normally folded when the Avs got the 4th goal. The Kings didn't and have looked very good for the past 7 periods.

LA will get a re-charge this weekend, then back to work. Thank goodness for the NHL Network, a full weekend of skills & stars. Too bad Ersberg won't play in the Youngstars game but I am looking forward to seeing Doughty play. My guess, he'll tear it up.

Good luck LA the 2nd half of the season....Go Kings!

Tony with his big game comedy again. Good stuff, man.

Richardson has yet to prove he deserves anything, let alone a roster spot, and quite honestly, the same goes with Moller. He's shown some good potential, scored some goals, but he has a long way to go yet.
Zeiler has played very well lately, and the same goes for Calder.

it's allstar weekend in the AHL too, so the idea of Bernier getting in any playing time is moot.

Also, the Monarchs had a kid named Jeff Jakaitis signed to a PTO to back up Taylor in their last game before the break. Jakaitis had been with Charlotte of the ECHL, which has had a liberal agreement with Manchester this year, as Michel Leveille has gone there from the Monarchs, and Ryan Murphy has come to the Monarchs from the Checkers previously.

i stand corrected on the AHL thing... I see the AHL All Star Game festivities are the Sun-Mon of this coming week. Last night XM broadcast Syracuse at Rochester because it was the only game on the slate, so I figured it was because of a similar break the NHL was taking. My apologies. Play on, Jonathan :)

Zeiler could not make another NHL teams roster. We have a few holes to fill. Lets keep our fingers crossed that Drew and Dustin dont get hurt in this weekends festivities. Richardson is certainly an upgrade from Zeiler even if he skated in socks. Calder has played a couple good games this year, but 1 or 2 every 20 games does not do it for me. I hope like all the other years when trade deadline appears these guys all start playing much better....hmmmmm...now why is that? I would sign everyone to a 1 year contract ...That way every year is a contract year when these so called athletes start to play hard for their next pay day. Lets hope AEG does the right thing and opens the wallet for a couple of top line guys without giving away the farm. Ottawa is ripe for the taking...They will part with speeza and Heatley for a bunch of prospects (Cheap) and a whole lot of draft picks. We can afford that and should take that route. If only one OK then try for Kovelchuk and or Hossa in the off season.Old Man is right when he said we are only a couple pieces away...
