``The Golden Boy.'' That's how the Seattle Times describes Kings prospect Thomas Hickey in a feature story that was published this morning. The story talks about Hickey's return to the Seattle Thunderbirds after his successful stint as Team Canada captain at the World Junior Championships.

Thunderbirds' Thomas Hickey is a national hero in hockey-mad Canada

All the Hickey doubters need to read this article.

The article lists him at 198 pounds, is this accurate? If so, then he's gotten a lot bigger since last year!

I loved this sentence: "One pretournament newscast stated flatly that next to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, no one in the nation had more weight on their shoulders than Thomas Hickey."

I also love that he's already thinking about coaching.

I would be happy to see Hickey, Teubert and Voynov make the team in September. Maybe they won't have grown into their frames yet. But who knows.

Doughty, Johnson, Quincey, Greene, Harrold, Hickey, Teubert, Voynov.

Here in Seattle, I love watching him play. The T-Birds aren't the same team without him. Without Hickey, the T-Birds dropped two games against Portland (the worst team in the WHL.)

That's awesome, but I can see this guy getting packaged for greater needs.

Maybe Deano was right...I hope so.

Maybe we should trade him now to a Canadian team while his stock is through the roof...

greater needs? I can't imagine what...

Green, Doughty, Johnson, Teubert, Hickey: mix in one or two more puzzle pieces and that's a phenomenal blue line. exactly what the Kings need to dominate on defense for a good 6-8 years

Like that little kid says on the Blue-Shield-Blue-Cross commercial...with how well all these young kids are doing that we've drafted...
"things are lookin up"!

Yeah, greater needs-top 3 scorer, preferably an elite winger. I'm all for keeping our cash, picks, and current roster, but there will come a time for an elite roster player.

All of the top teams have elite players. I'm trying to think of any that don't, but I'm not coming up with any.

My favorite quote from the article comes from his head coach "It's rare that you have a guy like Hickey who has world class talent, and pairs it with world class character." Deano is right on the money obtaining players that have both. Brownie, Greener, Dewy, Kopi, Sully, and Moller all fit this mold.

One other thing...$349 for a WHL game worn jersey? Unbelieveable! He sure will look good in our sweater very soon.

From everything you read and the repect he gets in Canada, It seems like DL made the right choice here.
He didn't wow anyone in the WJC but he was steady.
YOudon't get named captain of the national team without having "something" Those are the type of players you end up building your teams around.
Kudos again to DL and his staff.
