Approval ratings graph

Thanks much to reader Jeremy for putting this together...it's a graph of the approval-ratings poll, which also measures winning percentage. Very cool. Hopefully he will want to do this every month!

Scientifically speaking, from looking closely at this graph, we can conclude.....that Jeremy has waaaaay too much time on his hands. :)

Well, we know that graph is not about the economy.

OUR fans?

To me that is just an illustration of common knowledge.

Any fan base is going to start disapproving win their team starts losing ... duh

Very nice job, Jeremy! My suggestion for the next graph would be to analyze the TV ratings of Kings games on Fox Sports West and how that correlates to the games featuring the Rinkside view and the amount of onscreen time give to Heidi Androl...

An incremental look at the winning percentage might be helpful here too. How has the winning percentage changed over a period relative to approval rating? Or, what has the winning percentage been over the period (not cummulative for the season) relative to the approval rating?

No suprises here. At the start of the season people were willing to give a little slack, then when the team wins people are happy, when they don't they aren't.

Rich: Question...

Of all the Kings teams you have covered, how would you rate this management/coaching team versus the others you have experienced? This question would ask about coherent plans for success, evaluation of talent, ability to make effective trades, access by the media and fans, and overall patience with player talent development.

If we had a knowledgable fan base, they would know that it's part of the growing/learning process and you don't abandon it because you lose a few games. Our fickle fans start yelling about fire the coach, hire this guy as coach, trade this guy, bench that guy. You have to learn how to win. How do you learn how to win? By understanding why/how you are losing. Duh!!

As many have noted, no real surprises are statistically revealed on this chart. Interesting, though, to see that Dean Lombardi's approval rating has remained strong, even relative to the slump.

What Jeremy's project reveals is that while our feelings towards Terry Murray lives and dies by the daily production of the on-ice product, Dean Lombardi has a near unanimous fan approval of his efforts to build a dynasty.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, naysayers.

I agree there isn't much surprising here! I really do have to much time at work, at least non of my co-workers are kings fans coming here to read up on our boys. I do like Captain Materials suggestion. I'll have to take a look at that on Tuesday. Wouldn't want to waste my weekend hours on something so work related!
