Whoa!
....now if only we could get Fox to be the kind of Homer Hayward is....
From the standpoint of...
Congrats to Jim Fox. We don't need another boring homer on the airwaves. Keep up the great work Jim. Well deserved. Speaking of homers, take a listen to the Avs announcers sometime. YIKES.
the Shark's announcers were pretty good last night, giving the King's their due when necessary - especially in praise of Drew, JMFJ, Frolov and Brown. I think Miller & Fox are pretty impartial as well, unlike many tandems in the league - Phoenix, Dallas, Ducks, are all horribly biased. I'm not a big fan of Jim Fox personally, for reasons I've touched on before, but he is pretty good with the analysis.
Dear Mr. Hoffarth: Hockey fans of all teams know that Mr. Hayward belongs in the BOTTOM 5. He invents facts and calls 'em like he doesn't see 'em ("Quick came back to the crease then left the crease again!" Replay: Quick never returned to the crease). He is completely unprofessional. As for the "crisp explanation" he provides, answering ducks fans' letters asking him what it means when the little black thing goes into the net hardly qualifies.
In any event, congrats to Jim for the well-deserved honor.
...only for the Kings : )
Thanks mrbrett7
Well deserved - Congrats Foxy !! Hayward should absolutely be on the bottom 5, he is horrible, never says anything negative about the Sucks.
Congrats to Jim Fox. He really is the best anaylst and brings the most energy (along with Rex Hudler) to each broadcast.
Kind of surprised to see Hayward in the top 10. I know this just sounds like a Kings fan poo-pooing the Duck's analyst, but that guy is just annoying to listen to and a total homer. Speaking of homers, I watched last night's game thanks to Rich's tip and the Shark's analyst isn't much better than "Hayzie". Example: Apparently the Kings are calling the Calder-Stoll-Brown line the "CBS" line (news to me) and the analyst exclaimed what a great name for a line and that it was the best name for a line since the old "Legion of Doom" line from Philadelphia in the 90's. Wow. That is clever. Take the first initial from each guy's last name and reference a channel from broadcast television. I am so inspired. I guess this guy just either didn't remember the "A-Line" from Jersey or that name just wasn't up to the standards of the glorious "CBS Line". I wonder if he'd call the first line the "FAO Schwartz Line"?... excuse me while I go punch myself in the face.
Anyways, thank God for Foxy and for Bob Miller. They truly are the best.
Agree with what Naturallawyer said. I was SHOCKED that Hayward made the list.
Also I was pleasantly surprised how tolerable the San Jose announcers were. Made me reaffirm again that Hayward is really bad and not just the norm outside of the Kings.
Great work JIM! and maybe I'll stop by for some of that Fox soup some day.
Congrats to Jimmy, although I much prefer Darryl Evans myself.
Speaking of homers, the Philly announcers are among the worst. You would think their team has never taken a legitimate penalty since Bobby Clarke retired.
The SJ annoucers are more than tolerable. I'm glad so many people noticed how good Drew Remenda is. If you've had the Center Ice package for any length of time and had the chance to hear other annoucers around the league a lot, you do get to see just how good guys like Foxy, Remenda, Reaugh, Pang are out in the West compared to some guys back in more "traditional" hockey markets.
And I too am shocked Hayward made the positive part of that list. I could see it if he didn't call night as though it were day on a regular basis, becuase he is knowledgable and a good communicator, but his complete lack of objectivity ultimatley amounts to misinformation, which ain't good broadcasting.
We are very lucky to have Foxy and Miller.
congrats foxy, but i wouldn't be to happy, because any list that has that dummy from anaslime on it is a B.S. list. we all know foxy is good, that's were they should leave it.....number 6.....riiiiiiiight.
"Speaking of homers, I watched last night's game thanks to Rich's tip and the Shark's analyst isn't much better than "Hayzie". Example:..."
While I respect your opinion that you don't like the SJ annoucers, you do realize your example had nothing to do with demonstrating what you were getting at right? Call them a bit silly, but nothing in what was said had anything to do with being a "homer".
Comparing those guys to Hayward is a bit much. Hayward never would have pointed out the bad high stick call were Stoll got 2 minutes for a SJ player hitting his teammate. Hayward would never have pointed out the Army and Gauthier hits were not elbows after calling them that way initially. Huge difference.
I thought the Sharks announcers were pretty darn good. You don't have to agree with what they said, but they called it as they said it. To be honest, it was really a love fest of the game in general...they seemed to really gush over the Kings, and how well they have been playing.
Reaugh in Dallas is REALLY good.
Hayward may be one of the worst in the NHL, as well as Ahlers.
congrats to fox, but im surprised that vin scully wasn't on there, i know he's getting old but watching a dodger game without hearing scully isn't like watching a dodger game at all
I agree with all the Hayward comments, it's plain brutal listening to the whines and justifications that seep from his pie hole. Talk about a douche bag...
Just for fun I checked out Tom Hoffarth's blog to cast a vote for best and worst TV/Radio sports casters. Brian Hayward leads in votes for worst and he got my vote too.

Captain Material,
I re-read my statement and you're right. It does come across that I'm comparing Remenda and Hayward as homers, which wasn't really what I meant. Remenda merely came off as a little dopey at times, but he was very complimentary of the Kings. The only homerish moment that I can recall was when the announcer pointed out that Remenda called Thornton the best player in the league this season. Thornton is great, but Remenda should take a longer look at Ovechkin, Malkin and Parise.
Comparing him to Hayward was probably unfair considering it was one broadcast and I'll admit that if I had a chance to sit down and have a beer with the guy I'll bet that he'd be pleasant. Hayward on the other hand just comes off as a total douche and frankly I'd rather sit through a dozen screenings of that retarded, teenage vampire movie "Twilight" with a theatre full of screaming teenage brats than have a beer with Hayzie. I could be wrong, but he just comes off as an arrogant tool. Thank God I'm not a Ducks fan. Long live Jim Fox.
I like Fox,he brings out sound info and points throughout the games. But I still would like to give him a noogie on his nogin.I think if he was a real team guy he would give Bob some of his hair in a transplant.
Completely on board with you guys as far as "him I will not quack of" is concerned. I'm not bright enough to check for links to watch last nights game, so I had the privelege to watch the replay of the Kings/Sucks game, listening to that ass clown is like fingernails on the chalkboard, no wait, shovel on concrete, no, better still, baby crying in the middle of the new Friday the 13th (who would bring a baby to that movie anyway?) but i digress, can't stand Hay... almost said it, can't stand that guy. You'd think Pronger was the 2nd coming of Christ for Christs sake. Sucks can do no wrong, never, ever throw cheap shots, never offsides, never high stick, but God forbid you bump into Getstuffed or that permanenty crybaby look on his face Pukeson, God I hate the Sucks. I think I need to take a time out. Go Kings. PS, we really need to win tomorrows game.
Stop it here guys. heh. Jim Fox is half of the greatest team to call NHL TV broadcasts. As Bob Miller's heir apparent I wish Jim all the best but also, Bob another 20 years! Jim is great, but he's no Bob Miller....yet ;-)
Fox talks about Bettman on Yahoo's NHL page.
Gotta say, I disagree with any praise for Mr. Battman. He's rubbish for the NHL.
Gotta agree with everyone on Hayward's placement. Although he did correct himself on Quick when he saw the replay (even Ahlers tried to correct him before the replay and Hayward was trying to disagree), his objectivity is non-existent. A great example was the interference call on Selanne (infraction victim was Dustin Brown). He called the call "questionalbe" even though you could see him follow through with his stick. And he added that, "Brown is one of the better guys at, um, drawing calls like this". The call was on one of the biggest divers in the game today!
Congrats to Jim. No surprise whatsoever here. The one thing I have always liked about Fox is what a good teacher he is. A replay with the telestrator and I'm still learning a lot about the game.
