Loktionov thriving in Windsor

Here's a real good story from the Windsor Star about Kings prospect Andrei Loktionov, who is having a strong season for the OHL's Windsor Spitfires. Loktionov, a fifth-round pick of the Kings last June, has been particularly strong of late. (EDIT: Quisp gets the prize. I had Loktionov confused with Voynov/Voinov in my feeble mind) In his last 17 games, Loktionov has nine goals, 12 assists and a plus-12 rating. The article talks extensively about Loktionov's relationship with Hockey Hall of Famer Igor Larionov, plus Loktionov's intense nutritional habits and his on-ice development.

Call me crazy, but I think Loktionov was injured in December. He wasn't at the WJCs.

He just looks like a gamer. Bring this kid up for a couple.

folks...

this is off-topic, but i just read through the various power rankings for the nhl. espn has the kings at 19, tsn has the kings at 14 and the hockey news has us at 17. plus, the hockey news has a great intro about the kings on the power rankings page. they tip their hand that our fair, l.a. kings have the best corps of prospects in all of the hockey. you can argue with some of dl's ufa signings, but you can't argue with what he has done with our future (draft picks, trades, etc.)

go kings!

I think LOKTIONOV out of all our forward prospects has the highest CEILING in terms of potential. We have a lot of guys in the system that could be solid NHL'ers but I don't see any bonafide top line guys. Hopefully we pick up some high-ceiling guys in the next draft. I thought he showed some great skill during training camp.

Rychel and former NHLer D.J. Smith have been running the Spits' for the last four or five years I believe. They've spit out prospects such as Tim Gleason, Ryan Donnally and Mike Weber. Last year both Greg Nemisz and Josh Bailey were drafted in the first round. And this year Ryan Ellis will be a first round pick and next year Taylor Hall will be the first overall pick.

I have to say, this kid has a bright future. I live in Windsor and get to see him play alot. He's a little on the small side and does tend to be invisible some games (ala Frolov). I don't know how many times I've seen him no look passes for scoring chances.. a very exciting player to watch.

This is off topic but does anyone know of a link to watch the game tonight online? Out of the LA area on travel so can't watch on FSW. Thanks.

When I went to the rookie camp, this kid stood out the most and I was surprised I hadn't heard about him until now. He seemed to always be around the puck had some nice hands. I'm stoked he's coming into his own...

Jedi, Ross McKeon at Yahoo has us at 18, which is unbelievable, considering he usually buries at the bottom.

I''ve heard that Dean L. and Igor L. are good friends as Igor played for Dean in San Jose and likes the way Dean builds teams. Igor has huge power in Russia and has lots of young kids that he mentors. Perhaps a good connection for Dean.

Keep in mind that Windsor has a stacked team. Probably the best junior team in the entire country. Who knows if he would be as effective playing for a lesser team.

Loktionov reminds of another small, slick russian kid who used to play with Ryan Getzlaf for the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL.

That slick russian kid had moves like Kovalev, played with surprising grit, and looked to have a bright future in the NHL.

That russian kid I'm talking about is none other than Konstantin Pushkarev.

Yeah what the hell happened to him?

Don't get too caught up in hype. Proceed with caution!

Johnny KAHITS, you shouldn't make statements about something you "think" you have an idea about. I followed Pushy with the Hitmen, and have followed Loktionov with Windsor, and they are completely different players. You don't sound any smarter by being a contrarian. As a matter of fact, you couldn't even get your "facts" straight. Pushkarev is from Kazakhstan, he's not from Russia. Loktionov is a slick, creative passer, as well as a slick skater with a nice shot. When did you ever see Pushy pass the puck? He was all dangles, and not much else. It was exciting and frustrating at the same time. Do you think Larionov would be spending his free time on this kid if he was a one dimensional player? Common sense my friend.

The whole point of my entire post was about hype. We all get too caught up on it. If you browse some Kings boards, you see some people hyping this kid like a surefire 1st liner. It's ridiculous. He has a loonnnggg way to go.

Btw, I did follow Pushy closely while he was the Hitmen. And yeah people called him Russian then. Yes we know he's from Kazahkstan. But still.
Oh and you bet I'm following the OHL right now. Everyone of those Kings prospects.

Now don't get me wrong, I like Loktionov. He is a level beyond Pushkarev ever was because he has tremendous hockey sense and load of character, while Pushkarev was dumb as an Ox. I see him as a potential 2nd liner, PP specialist. Much like Moller is.

That I do agree with Johnny. Loktionov is a fine player in junior hockey, and has been a very nice surprise this season, but he is still a long ways away from becoming a top six NHL player. He does have a ton of potential though, and I can't get over what an amazing passer he is. Hopefully he will be a top sixer for us, as he does have that potential. As of right now, he is just a very good junior player. Point taken

Had to do a double take when I read he was a FUSSY EATER.Oh well, better safe than sorry.

Could these connections somehow bring Larionov into the LA Kings fold?
I'd love to see that happen.
Nothing against Morris, but any chance we'd get Igor over to Manchester with a view to eventually stepping into the LA job?
