The Manchester Monarchs went 1-2 over the weekend. At 26-26-5, they're in sixth place in the Atlantic Division and 11th in the 14-team Eastern Conference.

On Friday, the Monarchs lost 5-2 at Providence. Daniel Taylor started in goal but got pulled after he allowed three goals on six shots. Jonathan Bernier stopped 31 of 32 shots. Alec Martinez and Marty Murray scored goals.

On Saturday, the Monarchs beat Lowell 7-2 at home. Matt Moulson had a hat trick, and Justin Azevedo, Brian Boyle, Gabe Gauthier and David Meckler also scored goals. Bernier stopped 31 of 33 shots.

On Sunday, the Monarchs lost to Hartford 3-2 at home. Boyle and Oscar Moller scored goals and Bernier stopped 25 of 28 shots.

For the season, Marty Murray has a team-high 39 points (in 56 games) and Teddy Purcell (now with the Kings) had a team-high 16 goals (in 38 games). Trevor Lewis has 13 goals and 21 assists in 52 games. Jonathan Bernier has a 13-17-3 record, a 2.67 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage in 35 games. Daniel Taylor has a 6-2 record, a 2.57 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage in eight games.

Oscar Moller, on a rehab assignment, has one goal and three assists in four games.

This is a huge game tonight. Win in regulation and we are 3 points out of the playoffs, lose and we are 6 points out. I know this has been said before and will probably be said again sometime soon, but THIS is the biggest game of the year!!!!!!!

Tantrum.... I think the point is we are in the race and until we fall out of it each game leading up to the last will carrry that title of the most important game of the season. I wonder if the players are viewing these games the same way as their fans?

Save percentages and goals against averages matter not in the "A". Let those kids see as much rubber as possible, its the only way they'll improve.
Providence has owned that league for the last few years, probably the reason the B's have developed into a powerhouse in the east.

You mention a 3-2 loss to Hartford on Sunday, but what you don't mention is HOW they lost... a goal, with six seconds to go in the third period. That's horrible. Sure, it happens, but, it shouldn't have. Bernier has to shut the door, and the skaters in question (Lewis, Boyle, Cliche, Martinez and Drewiske) have to be accountable for their play in the final seconds of the game. Heartbreaking loss.

This summer is a make or break for young Boyle...mentally. He needs to poop, or get off the pot. Meaning...your a big guy kid, you need to start acting like it.

Marc...was it a bad goal? Good shot? I take it you saw the game?

as a matter of fact, mrbrett7 (as i'm sure you didn't think I did...) I did see the game, and the game winning goal (thank you internet television) and while Sanguinetti flubbed his shot from the point, it went into the corner where Anisimov passed it out front, it deflected off, I think Bernier, and went right up the slot where Brodie Dupont fired it over Bernier's left shoulder. Boyle was in the slot, but nowhere near Dupont, and blame could certainly be laid there, but it was bang bang, and BOOM... over.

Geez--

You guys have seen the games; why can't the Monarchs score more often? Seems like they lose 1-2 and 2-3 quite frequently...

Same thing happened tonight. Monarchs win 3-2 in a shootout.

With just over 2 minutes left in the game, Monarchs are up 2-1 to the Providence Bruins. Defensive collapse in the last couple of minutes leads to the Bs tying it up with Rask off for the extra skater.

Fortunately Danny Taylor completely outplayed Rask in the shootout.

As to why they can't score, it's pretty simple - they don't have the guns that will consistently put the puck into the net. Gauthier has disappeared, Lewis Moulson, Parse et al are inconsistent. Their #1 scorer is Marty Murray. Let's be real...this team will be incredibly lucky if they make it to the playoffs this year. They're in 6th place (technically tied for 5th, but Worcester plays tomorrow against Lowell, the #4 team) 1 point out of the last playoff spot. They play well in spurts - 20 or 25 minutes at a time. They just don't have the killer instinct that separate the good teams from the ok teams.

BTW - Boyle sucks. For a guy who weighs 250 lbs, and stands 7 feet tall on skates, he gets moved off the puck by guys half his size. He gets knocked over by guys half his size. He got the "hit of the game" tonight, mostly because I think the guys who make that pick were shocked that he actually hit someone.

OMG - Can the organization please trade Boyle for something/anything. He's a joke on skates, I don't think I can stand watching him for the rest of the season. It's almost like the Monarchs are a man down when Boyle's on the ice.
