the Kings best victory was when they traded Labarbara.
Great game.
If anyone saw a highly happy bald in a 1993 jersey on the glass, that was me. 5-3 goal was great and the two shorties were game breakers.
Personal Highlights: ran in to Kopi downstairs and got a pic. Saw Simmonds a few feet away and thanked him for coming to Fort DuPont, to which he said "It was my pleasure".
We might make the playoffs, we might not, but this is a time I can start to believe in.
Against Montreal last week
I am a Washington DC area LA Kings fan and was at the game tonight rocking a vintage Wayne Gretzky jersey. I have seen a lot of games this season but this one certainly ranks among the top. It was really amazing to see this team keep its composure after that first goal. They let the goal in, then weathered the storm for a few minutes and really took it to the Capitals the rest of the period. They played a great road game and really took the wind out of the Caps fans' sails. I could not have been happier to hear all of the boos raining down from the top deck! The guys played their hearts out, got a ton of breakaways (Hustle!), scored a shorthander, and never lost the defensive focus. The end got very tense but Quick held his ground and I think they came out with a huge momentum building win against a top notch club. Also I would say the Caps seemed to get a lot of good bounces while the Kings really hit some unbelievable corner shots. GO KINGS GO and bring on the road BOOS!!!!!
Hmmm... interesting question Rich.
I think tonights game against the Caps was the most exciting win of the season.
I felt like our first win against Chicago was our most handed win of the season, even though we've had shutouts, I felt we dominated that game, against a very good team.
Most important win? Tough call. I'm gonna go with Philly. Even though we went of quite a bad tear after it, that was against an elite team, and was a tight game all around and I felt was one of our best wins. Important in that we gained confidence in staying in a tight game, and I thought we battled hard that whole game. My memory aint so hot, but far as I can remember, that was a win where afterwards I thought, "Wow, we have a hockey team".
OldTimeHockey--
Saw you several times and commented about your fine golden jersey on the live blog!
Congratulations on your pics! Good times if you go to New Jersey!
The January game against the Ducks at SC. The Kings were up early, gave it back, then closed the deal. That game showed that they had fight in them.
The 4-0 win vs the blues. we only allowed 15 shots in that game and got 4 goals. It was the perfect game.
To me the best win is always the last one!!!!!
tonights gave me an ulcer, but might have been the best5 game to watch.
I'm gonna partially agree with JDM. Chicago. But the 2nd game, not the 1st. Someone on Chicago (Toews?) said the Kings surprised them in that 1st game, and they came in not expecting the Kings to be very good.
So the fact that Chicago was playing pretty hot, and we weren't a surprise to them the 2nd time, but we still took it to them, makes it the best game of the year for me.
The back to back victories against EDM and VAN on April 7th and 9th, eliminating each team from the playoffs in turn, while clinching the first Kings playoff appearance in 7 years.
I think both games against the Caps were very good wins.. but I think that game against the Hawks was our best all around game- complete domination against one of the leagues best.
While I don't think any comment can beat the one Quisp made.
IMO this one. This was as big of a make or break game as they come. The team stepped up and went blow for blow with one of, if not, the most offensively gifted teams in the league. Johnson and Doughty were awesome. Great game all around from everyone and this should give the kings as much momentum as they should need. Now it's up to them to decide their fate. They are in it, they just have to keep it up over the long grind of the next couple of months. And hopefully they'll be rewarded by some playoff hockey.
The biggest win of the year was the loss to the Canadiens last weekend. The Kings took the Habs' best shot early, took the lead after weathering a five minute power play plus a 5-on-3 goal, had a 3-2 lead late after dominating the final period, yet lost on the scoreboard because of road/Canadian refereeing and a lucky bounce.
Since that game, I've seen more jump, more determination and more purpose from this team than any other time this year. A lot of the hesitation has left their play. Sometimes, it takes a loss to win. Perhaps now the team knows it can take a shot and keep on ticking.
Best victory to me means best all-around game played by the Kings, irregardless of opponent.
Kings 4, Blues 0. Far and away. Blues rarely had the puck in Kings' zone. It really was as perfect as this team can play.
Kings 5, Blackhawks 2 (Nov. 29) Back n forth through 2 periods, Kings take the lead and keep the pressure on through the third period (unlike so many games where the opponent takes over the 3rd period; exhibit A: today's game).
I can only speak of the games I've seen this season, which is pretty much every game up until the past three weeks or so. For me, it'd probably have to be the 4-0 win against the Coyotes back in December. It was the first time all year I had seen them play a great, solid 60 minute game. They've recently struggled in Phoenix, so it was a nice sight.
My next favorite would be the OT win against the Hurricanes back in October, with a multi-goal effort from Zeus (including the OT winner) to cap it off. The first win of the season, and it was a great game to be at.
I'd have to say the 4-0 win over the Blues, that was about as flawless as it gets.
The Kings best victory is the Visnovsky trade.
Most importantly, it looks like this team is coming together and they are doing it at the right time of the season. Go Kings Go.
Quisp> I was at that game against Van, it was my son's first hockey game awesome game.
I liked the first game against the ducks back in October. After the Kings started the year 0-2 by losing the home and home vs. the Sharks, we beat our hated rival 6-3 (which is always fun), and Simmonds got his first goal in the NHL (and Stoll got his first goal as a King with a rocket of a slap shot on the PP, and I think Moller got his first NHL point that night, too).
Easy the first game in Dallas when the whole crowd was talking crap to me and the Kings won. The best walk to the car ever, but then last game in Dallas when Kings lost in shootout sucked. The crowed yelled go back to LA you f@g all game. But looking forward to the next game here in March where I am bringing the homies let's see them talk sh@t then.
Hey Rich,
What do you think so far of the season developent process for the kings? and also, which game do you think was best effort-type game for them this season?
My favorite was the win in Colorado on Jan. 21st because I was there.
Have to agree with Neil - each win from now on is the 'best victory.' Not to be coy but there is no defining victory in a team's evolution. It's a process that involves not only team results but individual progress. By season's end, we will know how to value this team.
Against Detroit in October. 3-2, Gauthier never got off the bench in the 3rd. great stuff.
oldtimehockey---
I was the guy three rows behind you in the Frolov road sweater. It was truly a terrific win to hang on amidst the great pressure Washington put on at the end.
But personally, I gotta go with the Philadelphia game, because that's where I live. It's so rare that we beat them...I'm STILL living off that one with my Flyer fan friends.
I'm gonna say...The win against New Jersey this Saturday. LOL
In all seriousness...find me a win that wasn't huge this season.
I Have to say I enjoyed the win against Flyers. Honourable mentions to the two wins against Chicago.
I have to agree that the 4-0 Blues game was pretty dominating, but I tell you what, the whole feel of that game last night was crazy. I hate sitting there thinking that they're going to give it away, they're going to lose. I don't want to go so far as to say playoff level, game 7 type atmosphere, but the crowd, the fire, that was a fun game last night. So, the Blues game for domination, but excitement level, last night, hands down. On to the Garden State. And if anyone saw the Devils/Caps game on Tuesday, if the Kings play the way they did last night, and the Devils play the way they did on Tuesday, I think we get another "W". Go Kings.
I'll go with the Chicago wins as equal. I remember the Toewes comment. What did he expect from the team that gave them a 9-2 shalacking last season?
This was a straight heart attack victory- I don't how Murray stands over there without losing his mind- If we have the same type of giveaways in NJ that we have had the last 2 games in our zone were going to get smoked on sat- any road victory is more clutch than at home - and against a red hot squad - with lots of mo in the 3rd our boys came thru - I'm stoked our goalie sit is finally solved fot the next decade-so I would say our most impressive victory of the yr-
Not one game, but the whole season.
Beat Washington twice!
Chicago twice!
Wild twice!!
Should have beat Detroit except for a late collapse and took them to overtime another time.
Were robbed in Montreal!
Shut out the Senators
And in 3 games against San Jose (36-7-6) there is only a 3 goal differential.
The Kings are definitely on the rise, just have some consistency issues which is normal for a young team.
Similar to what others are expressing here so far, I don't believe the Kings greatest victory this year has been on the ice. I am of the persuation that the Kings greatest victory has been claiming Kyle Quincey off the waiver wire from Detroit...
Great game, even though my DVR ate the first two periods! The 3rd period was exciting enough!
I had no problem with Bruce Boudreau and was happy to hear about his Cinderella story last year but he rubbed me the wrong way before the previous game against the kings, when he said something like "I'm ecstatic they fired me (as the manchester coach)" and so I think it's karma that we've beat him twice now!
hmmmm... I think you have to go back to the beginning of the season. The OT win against Carolina... I was there and it was like a playoff win! It has been such a rollercoster ride, but a fun one!
It's coming boys and girls the future looks bright!
I think this win was the most satisfying against a very good Caps team. Especially since their coach dissed the Kings after the game saying that "they beat us twice and we[Caps] are a better team than them."
It's fine with me if everyone wants to continue to take the Kings lightly. :)
And as a UMass alum, I'm soooooo proud of Quick!
I agree, Tim. We're starting to look good.
Side note..
I retract my statements regarding us aquiring Spezza/Heatley.
We need a "King" type player, in that they score, but can grind with the rest of our guys.
Horton from Florida. Watching some clips of this guy says it all. He's a winner. We should get him.
I thought the first win of the season, after the two close losses to San Jose, were HUGE.
We went to Anaheim and punched them in the throat even after Doughty went out of the game in the first half of the second period. Harrold, Gauthier, Preissing, O'Sullivan and Brown all had great games (Gauthier knocking the piss out of Getzlaf after bumping Labarbara). I think that game was crucial to getting us a little confidence after the close losses to San Jose.
Unfortunately, after that win Murray began shuffling the lines and scratching players who were instrumental in the victory.
I guess it can be viewed as a microcosm of the season.
1. The first victory against the Ducks at Staples. Not only did we win but we took it to them physically. After being so soft last year, this was the game to me that showed how physically tough we can be.
2. The first victory against the Caps. When Ovechkin faked his injury after going after Brown. Then after Brown scored on the ensuing penalty he looked right at Ovechkin & gave him a big F you which was cought on the scoreboard.
The shootout win against Philly.
BRS - Was that first Ducks game in LA? I thought it was in Anaheim.
But you're right on about the first Caps game. I'd kinda forgotten Brown's goal and reaction to A.O..
Good call on that one...
Kings win over Dallas at Staples on 11/11. It was the first 1/2 of a home and home sweep of Dalls, Brown knocked Robidas into the Kings bench, we killed off the BS 5 minute call on Brown that went through most of overtime and then won in the shootout even after Ribeiro made that obnoxious gesture after scoring. Fantastic game all around!
The best victory was when Leiweke promised that Beckham would return to the Galaxy and then a week later he is forced to negotiate a contract buyout. Nothing better than a public, embarrassing ego slap, eh Timmy? Karma is indeed a bitch, and AEG's arrogant mouthpiece finally got his due.
Gotta agree with NMKingsfan on this one, they've all been huge but beating the top tier teams twice in on season, Wild, Caps, Hawks and should have beaten Montreal says a lot for our up and coming team.
The best victory? Probably the last game against the Caps. Down early, comes back, then doesn't wilt against enormous 3rd pressure. Overall, the Kings were solid against a very good Caps team.
The 2nd game against the Hawks is a close 2nd. Again, they throughly dominated one of the best teams in the league the entire game and didn't wilt in the 3rd.
Most of the Kings troubles this season has been not being able to hold late leads, very characteristic of young teams. They're winning now, one of the main reasons is that they're playing so well in the 3rd. Keep it up!
Go Kings!
