Robitaille praises Doughty
Jill has written a nice feature on Drew Doughty that will run tomorrow and, as part of it, she talked to Luc Robitaille about Doughty's rookie season...
ROBITAILLE: ``When he gets the puck, the whole game slows down. It's very rare to have a defenseman that when they get the puck, you feel the game is in control. It's very hard. People ask me, who do you compare him to? It's hard to compare him to anyone. Rob Blake, when he was a rookie, was a different player. He wasn't as good with the puck, but he had a bit of an edge. Maybe Lidstrom, because as a young guy he was so calm when he got the puck. It's really amazing.''

Rich,
Do the coaches/management ever praise Peter Harrold?
I can't help but feel that all his passion and his contributions are being somewhat ignored and under-appreciated.
Especially with the diminishing ice-time.
Rich if Herold was 18 years of age and playing at the level he is right now. Then I would completely agree with you. But Herold is a bit older and performs a bit lower than Doughty. That being said. I would say that we are fortunate to have Doughty in the Kings lineup and I can just imagine where his game will be in couple of years.
Roger
granted, I'm like a week behind on Kings news but I can't really figure out why Harrold's time would be diminishing - can anyone tell me. the guy's been extremely solid for a rookie. it's nice for Luc to talk about Doughty, but this is really nothing that we didn't already know.
this might as well have been "the Kings issued a press release today nominating Drew Doughty for Calder Trophy consideration"
Eat: I think Harrold has had his fair share of praise this year. Certainly, Murray has shown a lot of faith in him, and there have been comments about his versatility. He gets power-play time, too. I myself like him a lot. I think he's quietly had a pretty great season for himself, a very low-key break-out year.
Someone tell Luc nobody cares about Blake.
U know people are looking to compare doughty to other players, but in 5 years, people will be comparing players to Doughty. He is in a league of his own! GO KINGS!
Despite the schooling he had from Bobby Ryan, he's played very well this season.
ETR...I don't know why you haven't picked up on this.
His ice time is down because he is playing wing on the 4th line right now. A 4th line winger is only going to play 5-7 minutes/night. He gets extra time as a pointman on the PP's 2nd unit.
Of course his ice-time is down. Right now, he is the teams 7th defenseman.
I like Harold. He plays a sound game, plays hard, and is a good puck moving defensemen, but with all of those attributes, he is a 6th/7th defenseman in the NHL, and that is where he is playing.
did luc ever cross his own blue line into the defensive zone? hmmmmm ...
just kidding .. we love you luc!
mrbrett.
I get that, but I don't know why there's a debate about putting Moller back in, or why Drewiske is playing D.
I'm impressed by Drewiske, but don't get why we're not playing Harrold, who I could argue has been our best defenseman over the past 2 months.
When nobody else was doing much right, Harrold was the one guy making plays at both end of the ice. I don't understand why we're not valuing him as a defenseman more.
We could have called back Lewis or Purcell, or Westgarth for 4th line duties and left Harrold on D.
Not to mention, after a great game against Minnesota, he was scratched, and we gave up a bunch of goals despite getting that victory.
As incredible as Doughty is, he's really made some bad plays that have cost us points. I love that kid, but think Harrold deserves more "crunch time."
I guess I can't argue with results though. Its just a concern of mine that we're not rewarding the guys who are stepping up, and praising them for it.
Ersberg: true, and he shouldn't be ashamed of getting schooled by THAT move... i've been pleasantly surprised by Harrold's all-around play this season.
I agree with the Harrold arguement, he's played very well, particularly of late. Unfortunately, so has the entire team. As this young team gets better, ice time will be at a premimum, plus the Kings are certain to add more young talent next year. The kids will have to earn their time on the ice, a very interesting predicament for LA to be in.
Funny thing, at the beginning of the season, we didn't have enough talented players on this team, by this time next year we may have too many.....
Go Kings!!!
