Short night for Ivanans
In the first period of last night's game, Raitis Ivanans was called for elbowing (in the offensive zone) on his third shift of the game. The Kings killed the penalty and Ivanans left the box, skated for five seconds...and never again left the bench. Even when the game turned physical, Ivanans didn't budge. Ivanans' linemates, Derek Armstrong and Peter Harrold, only had a handful of shifts after that, and other wingers double-shifted. Alexander Frolov and Kyle Calder seemed to draw the most duty in that role.

Drago needs to learn the number one rule of team sports: don't HURT your own team.
YEAH.
Our coach finally got it.
I've never seen a goon take so many infractions and put his team shorthanded.
The team doesn't have to put up with it. Goons are a dime a dozen. How difficult would it be to replace them?
The fact of the matter is that Ivanans is a very useless player with zero talent.
He's so fat and slow that any time a player skates by him, in order to keep up, Ivanans either grabs, hooks, holds, slashes, elbows, slewfoots, charges, boards, or interferes with.
Did I get everything.
Good.
Calder isn't too far behind him.
I think its about time to keep Ivan in the press box and bring Moller back. Its obvious that we don't really need his style of play. Even in physical games... the rest of the team showed to us last night they don't need a goon to take care of them. They can do it themselves. We can just have Simmonds fight Boogard next time. But seriously, scratch him.
I dunno. Murph probably wanted to win this game.
That must be it.
Look, in all seriousness, this was a friggin playoff game, the rest of the games, are friggin playoff games. three lines are going to be the order of the day for awhile.
Ivanans is horrible. He sticks out like a sore thumb. Always gets dumbass penalties at the worst time possible. And his fights are less than spectacular.
thats good, because Ivanans sucks. He's a bigger liability then gauthier. Armstrong is tougher then he is... Armystrong doesnt stand around and chitchat, he just drops the gloves and starts swinging.... Id rather have Zeiler in there then Ivanans.
Please call up Boyle and give him one more shot to get that 4th line spot, Mr. Lombardi. We could use a shot of Boyle's size right now. Just ask him to go out and center O'Sullivan and Armstrong (defensive support) so that he doesn't have to try and do TOO many things - i.e. be tough AND defensively responsible.
Let's put this kid in a position to succeed.
Move Harrold onto the Frolov/Kopitar line, switch up Brown and Simmonds, and go with O'Sullivan/Armstrong/Boyle....
PLEASE!?!?
HAHAHAH ivanans is a dork.
We should just have quick fight for us.
He throws harder jabs than ratty. hahahah
Man im so proud to be a kings fan right now. Especially in OC. i can see HONDA CENTER from my office so its great knowing the kings showed anaheim how to play 60 minutes of hockey. Thats how we win. We win battles on the boards, Take the body, and sit ivanans for the 2nd half of the game. its great!!
One of my bosses is a huge ducks fan. He cam to me this morning and he said alright im ready lemme hear it. hahahahah it was so great. best feeling. He was like wow quick looks pretty hott. No sh*t right?
anthony, plase stop with the Calder bashing. We know you have something against him but he was and has been one of the best players as of late. You were bashinf Zues last year and look now... Calder is performing superbly now for the Kings as os Kopi. Fro, Brown and even Stoll. It took awhile for our system to get going and now its kicking in..
Finally!!!
Anthony - while Calder is not perfect, he in many ways is exactly the type of player that excels in playoff hockey. Just think about the role players on Detroit that have been there for many years and just do the dirty work in the corners every game so that the big shots get all the goals and glory (Draper, Maltby and McCarty). I think that if we make the playoffs, Calder will excel. If he is traded and goes to a real contender, they will view that transaction as picking the Kings pocket. If you were in your seat yesterday for the first goal, I thought that today you might have stepped off of Calders neck since he set that entire play up with a great drive down the left side.
IMO Ivanans should be a healthy scratch for a while and see how the team does . Richardson should move down to the 4th line and Moller should be put on the 3rd line with Simmonds and Zues. Unless Dean can get a better player to take Caulders place the top 2 lines should be left alone !
I've never big a big fan of goons, although I understand their purpose. My problem with Ivanens compared to other goons around the league is that he hasn't yet learned how to take penalties with a purpose. You want to take a minor elbowing...I'm okay with that...just make sure your elbow hits Scott Niedermeyer or Pronger, or Getzlaf...not some scrub. Your out there to intimidate and protect, that's it.
He hasn't learned how to really do that...will he? I don't know. Right now, his learning curve is behind the rest of the guys. I think it is time to get Westgarth an opportunity, a real one.
In the meantime smokiemcpot is correct. The team toughness is so much higher right now, Ivanens just isn't needed.
not to mention the refs always have one eye on him, someone else may not have been caught on that play.
I`ve felt for a long time that drago should sit. Great opportunity for Moller. If we trap and forecheck like we did the last two minutes of the duck game for sixty
minutes we can beat SJ HANDILY.Please someone put a hit on Blake for me and ANTHONY.Thank You!
Anthony, are you serious? Ivanans is fat???? Have you ever seen him in person? He's a freakin mountain. I'm not gonna argue about his blazing speed or untimely penalties but get used to him or some other player in that role. He's not going away anytime soon.
Not alot of things bother me when I watch the KINGS.Undisciplined penalties, careless turnovers, rinkside view, and Patrick O Neil.Theyre all part of the game. But why Journey???Some of my best friends are gay and I think Kevin Bacon is a nice looking guy.But Journey? Not really a hair band, but more of a chick band.Kind of like Chicago after Terry Kath passed away. Some suggestions for a new theme song.

What's insanity again? Doing something over and over expecting a different result.
What's insane is dressing Ivanans. He should be either dealt or send down to the minors because I don't see him filling any need. His skills are average at best and there is absolutely no need for his hulking mass of a body anymore. (As well as his perpensity for taking god awful penalties)
The team has more than proven it is much tougher this season. (i.e. Simmonds last night) Having some toughness and fight doesn't mean physical rather than ideological. Plus the days of the enforcer are long gone.
Personally i'd rather have Boyle with all of his shortcomings because he makes up for it in youth and above average skills. I know this sentiment has been reiterated on this blog more than once so memo to TM: No Ivanans means your chances of actually winning a game go up astronomically. It's that simple.
Oh and, have Gauthier accompany him on the plane ride as well.
Wow where to start with this one…
1st off Rarities isn’t fat Anthony makes me wonder if you’ve ever been to a game and seen him in real life…but you can just Google him for picks and see that the last thing in the world he is…is fat.
2nd let’s not forget that Rarities has two game wining goals this year…that’s 4 points the Kings wouldn’t have right now. (I love all the fair weather fans on this site!)
3rd if we are going to talk about taking bad penalties I’d like to think Calder and even Green as of late have taken some real crappy game changing penalties.
Is Rarities the best player in the NHL - No.? Is he needed maybe…he’s an enforcer.
I think we should keep him and that he needs to go to a skills camp on the off season. Let him play 6 minutes a game and send him out if we need someone crushed.
My Above post should read Raitis sorry my spell check f-ed me.
ETR...your kidding, right?
Why would you move O'Sullivan right now, to start with.
If you do that, you put Boyle at center with Moller and Armstrong, but beyond that, Boyle has done nothing to warrant being recalled.
MrMach is right.
Ivan may make some boneheaded errors, but we don't want to give him away.
He can serve our purposes, but just not every night.
I don't know how many times the fans need to point this out.
When will Murray understand?
For all the good things going on, there still are some darn frustrating things about how this organization operates.
We went young for a reason. Lets get those other young guys involved.
Making the playoffs would be great, but can't we work our prospects into the mix a bit better?
How can Boyle, Purcell, or Lewis hurt us any more than Ivan and some of the other "mistakes" from Calder and Mr. Gauthier?
Doughty and Simmonds get their fair share of passes...
That anonymous comment above was from me...
Anyway...it's because it's better for their development to play 20 minutes/night in Manchester in a playoff race (which they are in), than to play 5-7 minutes every so often in the NHL in a playoff race.
It's rather simple really.
You do not play in the NHL until you have earned your way into the NHL...period. End of discussion.
Dean Lombardi
Terry Murray
AEG
Kyle Calder
Raitis Ivanans
These are the names on our hockey know it all's dart board (pictures too). Throw the dart...pick the victim...spew a hate filled rant...repeat.
Actually, I laughed when they showed the replay in slow mo after the penalty-Ivan took his head off. You can almost see Ivan smiling as he gave the guy a mouth of forearm.
Can he please do the same thing with Gauthier???
Eat, re Boyle:
I would love it if Boyle would turn his ship around. At this point, he's being outplayed by nearly everyone in Manchester. Lewis, Purcell, Parse, Cliche, Azevedo, are all more deserving call-ups at this point. Lewis and Purcell, especially, would not be thought of as "hurting us" in any way. The others have never played an NHL game, so there's that to consider. But Boyle is playing his worst hockey since turning pro. It's not exactly a logical time to reward him with a call-up. Also, underline: he sucks defensively in Manchester.
Just to be clear, Ivanans' 2 GWG were in a 3-0 shutout and a 4-0 shutout...
I'd give those 4 points to Quick before giving Ivanans all the credit.

BLACK SABBATH-WAR PIGS
Trade Boyle while he is still worth something, surely the Red Wings have a puckbag or set of water bottles we could use, autographed of course.WOW big surprise keeping that big slug Ratis Anchorvans off the ice, helping in the win.Waive the rat, call up Westy who will take on all comers instead of posing and making mean faces.LOL
What a bunch of Hippocrates...As soon as someone takes a run at Kopi, Sully etc. You'll all be whinnying we don't have an enforcer...
Please name a team that doesn't have one...and don't say Detroit because they have had one dress in over half their games and are the most talented team in the NHL.
