Clear-day roster

| | Comments (16) |

The Manchester Monarchs today announced their clear-day roster, which designates players who are eligible for the AHL playoffs. Teddy Purcell and Kevin Westgarth are the only current Kings on the list. Junior players (whose seasons might end before or during the AHL playoffs) and players signed to amateur-tryout agreements are eligible to be added to the list later.

Goaltenders (2): Jonathan Bernier and Daniel Taylor.

Defensemen (7): Andrew Campbell, Drew Bagnall, Alec Martinez, Tom Preissing, Joe Piskula, Davis Drewiske and Viatcheslav Voynov.

Forwards (13): Trevor Lewis, Marty Murray, Richard Clune, Brian Boyle, Marc-Andre Cliche, Scott Parse, Vladimir Dravecky, Justin Azevedo, Gabe Gauthier, Matt Moulson, David Meckler, Teddy Purcell and Kevin Westgarth.

In Residence (2): Paul Crosty (LW/D) and Josh Kidd (D).

I'm somewhat surprised to Tom Priessing's name on that list. Not that it's necessarily a good or bad thing...

Is Oscar Moller eligible to play after the Kings season ends or after Seattle's season ends?

If the Kings are eliminated from the playoffs race AND the junior teams that own their rights are eliminated from the play-offs could Simmonds and Moller be added to the Manchester Monarchs roster?

Marc Nathan said:

list makes sense. they've been playing great over the past couple of weeks. this might be a good time for that team to stay hot.

Rich Hammond said:

Moller and Simmonds no longer have any connections to their junior teams and they won't have anything to do with the Monarchs this season.

Moller & Simmonds are both over 20 years old now, so if I understand the rules correctly, that eliminates the say their Canadian Junior teams have in where they play. Once they reach 20 years old, they can be sent to the AHL, even if their Junior team still holds their rights. At least, that's how I think it works.

Wow, Soctt Parse. Haven't heard that name for a while.Wasn't he some kind of super sniper in college? Does anyone know if he still has a shot at making the big leagues?

Othe than Trevor Lewis, that's a sad looking group of forwards - Where's the Getzlaf and Perry's of the world? Moulson? Cliche? Yuck.

Paul- there's a Dec 31 cutoff on the 20 year old rule in the NHL-CHL agreement. Moller turned 20 after the 31st, which is why he couldn't play in Man (except on a conditioning assignment) this year. It's an intersting situation but as i understand it, Seattle has Moller's rights until the end of their year, so if the king's don't make the playoffs, then he could only go play for seattle if they're still in the playoffs at that point. After that, he could go play in manchester, because i believe his ineligibility for the AHL puts him in the juniors category with respect to the clear day list.

Simmonds is done with juniors.

J...The way I understood it a couple weeks ago, Moller would have had to have been on the clear-day list, but I can check on that.

CBGB,

Getzlaf and Perry play in Anaheim in the NHL because they are NHL players. Our NHL players play in LA.

Can someone tell me what happend to Brady Murday?

Could very well be, Rich. I imagine Moller's particular situation doesn't come up often. One of the last i remember was Marc-Andre Fleury- at 18, he played 21 games for Pitt, then went back to the Q, then to the AHL for playoffs. He wouldn't have been able to play in the AHL that year (regular season that is), but i don't know if he was on the clear day roster or not.
I'd find it interesting if a player that is not eligible to play regular season in the AHL would have to be on the clear day roster because the clear day roster isn't just for playoffs but also the remaining regular season games. Of course, the AHL not being part of the NHL-CHL agreement, they can do what they want. It'd be great if you could find out about that. Thanks!

tantrum, re parse:

Injuries erased most of last season. This year he's had basically the season I hoped he would have last season. So he's kind of a year behind schedule (or something) which is a not-great position to be in, especially for an over-age college player. He signed (I'm nearly positive) a two-year contract in 2007, so he would have to be re-signed again this summer. Will the Kings keep him around?

I hope so. One more camp. Really, this would be his last shot at making it, I think. And he would be a sleeper candidate for one of those three or four openings in the bottom two forward lines.
