Dallas game preview

| | Comments (17) |

Expect a close game between the Kings and Stars tonight, if the previous three games are any indication. The Kings beat the Stars 3-2 in a shootout on Nov. 11 at Staples Center, then beat them 3-2 two nights later in Dallas. On Jan. 17, the Stars beat the visiting Kings 3-2 in a shootout.

Erik Ersberg started all three of those games, a bit of a quirk given that Ersberg has only started a total of 21 games this season. Ersberg is expected to start tonight.

The Stars enter the game in 10th place in the West, one point behind Edmonton and Ducks and seven points ahead of the 13th-place Kings. Their victory over San Jose on Sunday snapped a five-game losing streak, during which they scored only six goals.

Dallas claimed Brendan Morrison off waivers from the Ducks on Wednesday. The Dallas Morning News reports that Morrison will play tonight, that Jere Lehtinen is out with an upper-body injury and that the Stars might skate as follows:

Ott-Ribeiro-Parrish
Neal-Morrison-Brunnstrom
Eriksson-Modano-Conner
Sutherby-Begin-Barch

The Kings, meanwhile, are 1-5-2 in their last eight games at Staples Center.

I am still so pissed I have to leave another comment
career stats ( this is there pro career which includes minors )
JW games- 731 goals- 199 points- 519
POS games- 732 goals- 308 points- 717
you tell me straight up who's a better player
forget the injury and draft pick straight up. POS had success and will have it at every level. JW just had a couple of great line mates for two years. we got hosed I am so upset. I am so tired of watching good players leave. think about this we traded Demitra and Conroy for this scrub. thats right I said scrub. I bet POS is point a game from here on out and JW might get .25 a game. what a joke.

Jim,

Enough with the hissy fit already. He's not a scrub, and if you think he is, then you've never seen him play. This post isn't about the trade, it's about the game. Stop spamming! btw, counting the minors is just silly. Why not count his peewee teams too?

I remember everyone was saying this about Handzus a year ago. Look how he's turned out.

BACK TO THE GAME!!@!

Glad to see Ersberg is getting the start. You can watch tonights game for free over at Yahoo.com. Anyone know if the PS3's browser can handle yahoo's flash video?

Rich, what are our lines going to look like?

The team will either come out firing like never before OR come out flat and get b**** slapped throughout the entire game.

Either way I hope Williams has a strong game. A new team, a new conference, a new system, better linemates, spells success. NOT! and he's injured too, what else is new?

Chris in Torrance said:

You guys can put up all the stats you want. I'll give you the stat the outshines ALL of them.

Stanley Cup Rings:
JW - 1
POS - 0

How's that for a stat?!

Jim, Congratulations! That is the most retarded comparison of two NHL players I've ever read. Just unreal! Williams is a scrub? Whatta joke? That scrub has played in 42 NHL playoff games. That's 42 more than O'Sullivan has to date. He also has 2 more 30-goal seasons than O'Sullivan has and only makes 600k more than the younger and less established O'Sullivan.

But whatever dude.

Jim -

So true! In fact, by the same yardstick, I can think of another superior player with over a thousand points in his career so far: me!

Of course, most of those points were in squirts, peewees, bantams, midgets, juniors and beer leagues. I have produced at every level!

Anyone predicting POS as a point-per-game player has obviously never watched him play.

He's a nice player, but the only place he's going to put up a point-per-game average is in the Harbor City Beer League.

Come to think of it, Patrick and his missing teeth would look good in that league.

I think it's funny that these fans that are bagging on this trade actually think they know more than Lombardi and all the Kings staff and resources. You think Lombardi just watches the Kings games and Center Ice out of town games and gets his information like us fans?
Lombardi eats, breaths and lives hockey, the team must have over a dozen scouts all across North America and Europe that feed him information along with his assistants, he grew up with hockey and has successfully run another team as GM. Being in the Philly system he got to see Williams intimately, character, room and player. He also has 2 doctors reports(if not more) on Williams that we aren't privy to in order to make a decision. If he feels Williams is a better fit, I believe him. I don't have all the information at my disposal that Lombardi does.
Does anybody actually think Lombardi is going to sabotage the Kings (and eventually himself) by pulling off a trade like this that obviously was in the works for a while, not a trade deadline spur of the moment thing?
Now lets just be the fans that we are and sit back in our easy chairs and see how this plays out.

Great come back thanks very funny and made me reflect on what I wrote
Let's just keep a mental note and hope I am wrong. Time will tell but Sully will be missed last years top line had a lot to do with Him and his play. I just hate watching good players leave our team. And I have seen JW play he's had moments but he's not going to make a big difference sorry he's not

....oh, perhaps you meant a shot per game?

POS had 1 SOG, no points in 15 minutes for Team Siberia tonight....

I just watched O'Sullivan play in his first game as an Oiler and he actually looked worse than I remember. Had a couple of nice giveaways, took a shot from 30 feet out instead of driving to the net, and played on the 3rd line. Ya I'm still sure I love the trade.....

Chris in Torrance,

Tverdovsky has a ring too, whats your point?

Chris in Torrance said:

My point is that the guy has been thru the playoffs and knows how to win.

The worst thing about tonights game is having to watch the Dallas feed and listen to that retard, Daryl Reaugh. I swear he get's up every morning and scans the dictionary looking for the biggest words he can find. Just speak "Hockey" you big dummy, and stop trying to impress us with your "knowledge" of the English language.

smokiemcpot said:

Was Tverdovsky second on the team in scoring when he won the cup? Was he even second in scoring D on the team? No. Point is don't judge the trade til you see the guy play next year. Everyone was pissed when Demitra got traded for Sully... then people were happy we got Sully. He didn't fit. So we traded. Lets wait and see how it pans out before we start a civil war in the Staples Center, eh?
