Sweet.

It also says the Kings probably don't think Bernier is close to ready for NHL duty. Or Zatkoff for that matter.

Smart move by Deano. Ersberg is a steady, reliable backup. You need at least 3 NHL caliber goalies in your stable in case of injuries - a la Brodeur.

And in a year or so if another young goalie steps up, DL can easily move Ersberg to another team.

Oh man, 2 more years until we see Bernier? I bet that angers him, especially since he played in Europe a couple years ago... Maybe we make Ersberg trade bait next year..?

I was wondering what was gonna happen with Erik. Dean got 2 of his best soon be UFA's resigned. Now hes just got RFAs to worry about.

goal tending is always needed, so if one of our prospects breaks through, i imagine ee's contract will be affordable enough to move if needed...
smart decision if bernier, zatkoff, taylor, etc. are not quite ready yet...

d.l.'s 2 for 2...

dallas picked up brendan morrison off waivers...
i like this move for the stars...it's a low/medium risk pick up and since they are saving money in the sean avery pick up, they can afford to take a chance w/him...

Hope this is not a sign and trade but I could see the possibility.

gm don waddell just said on nhl live that "he's got ear plugs in his ears" on any deal concerning kovy...

truth or dare?

Interesting...says alot about what they think of the currect goaltending situation.

I still say Ersberg isn't much more than a backup, but that's also just fine with me...you need those as well.

Brilliant! He's a steady goalie to say the least, and has stretches of super strong play. Quite frankly, I think he should have had started more than just two in the last 20, but i'm fine with it if Quick is playing well. Not to mention, he's a lot more valuable and no longer a "one-year asset" even if traded.

Seems like EasyE (love that name) has played pretty well for the team, so I'm glad to have him. They say that goalies take the longest to develop of any position. Well, Quick has showed some serious flashes of brilliance this year. No question, and one would hope that he'll only get better. So even if there are a number of candidates in the goalie category, I don't think anyone would prefer to go back to the good ole "who's in goal"? days.

How about playing him.

Who says Bernier can usurp Quick next year?

This isn't anything except GOOD for the Kings. Steady, reliable backup. Injuries ALWAYS happen. Excellent deal.

Good move bt the Kings. If they decide to move him he is worth much more with an extention, not just a rental any more.

Great move. He is a good goaltender and on the cheap as well.

As previously discussed, it seemed like a likely and smart move for DL to lock up Ersberg for next season, to buy himself some time regarding the development of his various prospect goalies. Does it mean anything to Bernier? Not really. It's not even a given that Quick will be the starter in October. Quick and Ersberg have played almost the same number of NHL games. And that's about 30 games each (I think it's 31 for Quick and 38 for EE). I would say, at this point, it's a good bet that Quick and Ersberg will be the tandem for the Kings next year. It's less of a good bet who the starter will be. Although Quick appears to be the guy right now, a lot can change. And what if Bernier comes to camp and sets the world on fire? A two-year contract (at, I assume, an affordable price) means that DL locks up an asset which he obviously can trade at any time, so he doesn't risk EE walking. DL's got some goalie decisions to make over the next couple of years (JLB being the first decision), and locking up EE makes it easier for DL to maneuver, whether he ultimately keeps EE or deals him.

EE may yet end up being our #1. Or it may be Quick. Or Bernier. Or Zatkoff. Jones. It's not a bad position to be in.

True, but with Frolov, we have until the end of next season. We can't talk extension until after July 1st.

Denis Gauthier, Kyle Calder, and Derek Armstrong are the only remaining UFA's on the team.

JJ is the only other "real" asset they have to focus on (and keep in mind he's restricted so we'll have the right to match should any other GM pull a Kevin Lowe).

In addition, the remaining RFA's are: Purcell, Boyle, Westgarth, and Moulson.

And regardless if the cap goes down (which it most likely will) Kings have significant room to make deals over the summer.
