FINAL: Kings 3, Vancouver 2
A highly impressive effort tonight from the Kings, who pulled within three points of the two-way tie for seventh in the Western Conference. Denis Gauthier scored 3:35 into the game and Jarret Stoll scored 12:17 into the game, on the power play, for a 2-0 lead.
The Kings' only significant stumble came 4:40 into the second period, when Alex Burrows scored on a slap shot from just inside the blue line, with only Jack Johnson between Burrows and goalie Jonathan Quick. The Kings faced trouble when Kevin Westgarth went off for slashing just 21 seconds later, but they killed the penalty and took a 3-1 lead when Stoll scored his second goal of the game 12:51 into the period.
Vancouver pulled within 3-2 when Taylor Pyatt scored off a turnover in the Kings' zone, 5:26 into the third period, but the Kings held on for the final 14-plus minutes, much as they did Saturday against Minnesota.
Quick made 22 saves, but the final save of the night went to...the right side of Matt Greene's face.

Great win!
Greener takes one off the dome to save the game for the Kings. That play right there is why you make the trade, Lubo for Green/Stoll.
I think our #1 concern right now is Greene. Need an update ASAP. What a play by Greene. I hope he is alright other than the obvious welt he is going to have upside his head.
few Good win, the Kings gotta stop scaring me in the final minutes. We couldn't clear the puck! Whatever good win great game by Greene, Purcell, and Stoll. Quick played good other than those 2 shitty goals, but a win's a win!
What a great game by Stoll and more importantly, I'm so impressed with Quick's poise. Excellent game, and great effort by the Kings by putting up with the forecheck.
Go Kings!
Greene oozes leadership. That is a play that could swing the season. And, I hope it does.
Hard to talk with your foot in your mouth Anthony.
Best win ever!!! I live in BC so all I hear is about the friggin Canucks every year. No one around here gave the Kings a chance tonight and laughed when I said it would be close. One guy predicted 5-1 for Vancouver! This is why I love the KINGS!!!!!!
RIch I gotta think of the contrast of this team earlier in the season not standing up for Doughty in that loss to Tampa Bay and tonights gritty effort culminating by a Greene blocked shot to the face. That image will last with some of us for awhile. These kids are starting to believe.
big win boys. the effort was as intense as any this season.
Quick's technique seems to be breaking down a little bit but he is such a battler that it is impossible to take him out of the lineup right now. After the performance by Ersberg against Dallas it is hard to see him playing except in relief or in a back to back situation.
The most impressive thing about it is Greene got back up and continued covering his man for the final seconds with blood flowing from his face. You can't teach that. THAT is dedication my friends. How many people on this team would have done that? He just earned his extension as far as I am concerned right there. Can't get anymore proof for his dedication to the club than that right there. I hope he is alright, I am proud to have him on this team for years to come.
Outstanding goals by Stoll, outstanding effort by everyone especially Purcell, outstanding game overall.
Greene's stop at the very end of the game shows why hockey players put all other professional atheletes to shame.
Wow, this game really should make you guys trust Dean Lombardi. Stoll gets 2 goals and Matt Greene basically wins the game with his face..
I think it's time TM separates Denis Gauthier and Jack Johnson, because it's starting to look ugly. I know Gauthier scored, but he took 2 very bad penalties...
Let's keep rolling! Oh and for those who are still upset about the O'Sullivan deal, last time I checked, we're 3-0 without him.. Just throwing it out there..
I was very opposed to the Sully trade, but now that I've had time to settle down from the shock, I'm starting to like it. The problem was, Sully didn't have a spot on the team. He didn't click well on the top two lines and he isn't a third- or fourth-line player. Purcell is big and apparently learned to use his body and seems to be a very nice fit on the top line. I'm liking it.
Props go to Matt Greene for winning the game with the right side of his face. Woo!
Wow! How bout that pass from Purcell to Stoll? This kids got skills.
O'Sullivan who?
Wow, I just watched the highlights.. Matt Greene is a SOLDIER! I can't even believe I ever said he doesn't deserve the "A". He blocks the shot with his face, and gets up and just pretends like it's all good.. Smacks his helmet against Quick's mask at the end of the game, and just heads over to the dressing room.. I'm still shocked..
Purcell's assist on Stoll's goal was just filthy, wowwwww..
Kevin Westgarth stood his ground on that fight.. I think we've found ourselves the new enforcer..
If there is one game we will look back on and say HUGE, it will be this one, not necessarily a turning point but for what it meant to this team in terms of victory against a very good Vancouver team. This was an awsome win for so many reasons. The Kings have heart, a whole lot of it obviously. I was particularly impressed (again) with the play of the kids, Purcell who has really come around, Moller who made the plays when he needed to and seem to always be involved and Simmonds who can really skate and plays great positional hockey.
Throw in Greenie's play at the end along with how the Kings bent but refused to break and the Kings are 3 points out of a playoff spot. Will they make it, I don't know. But I wouldn't count this team out of it for one second.
Like I've been saying all season, this is the best Kings team I've seen since the Deadmarsh days. The playoffs? Why not???
Go Kings!
Wooo! Go Kings!Lots of Canadian tourists in the stands tonight.Glad to hear them having to resort to the "Playoffs" trash talk, instead of just pointing at the scoreboard.
Man oh man, what a game. So glad I went.
I want to give major credit to TM, this was a very well coached game... even though I wanted Frolov out there at the end, Calder didn't F up too badly and it will be better for Fro in the long run. Last time TM benched him, I recall Fro responding with some really intense performances.
I can't wait to add Williams to this lineup.
Oh... and to all the Ivanans haters, Westgarth is no different guys. They're goons, they take bad penalties, that's what they do.
I usually defend Goat, but tonight was his worst game of the year.
Purcell's vision is absolutely outstanding. What hands... if he hits his potential, watch out. I know its through rose-colored glasses at the moment, but if Purcell makes this just how he plays in general, over a full season, we may have another 60+ point guy on our hands!
I love Quick owning up to the bad goal. They were both awful, though Johnson couldn't have been standing in a WORSE position when the shot was taken.
seabass... I dunno, I talked a lot of trash tonight to a lot of Canadians and I didn't hear bupkis back.
3 games. 3 wins. On to 4.
My computer lied to me!

Moondoggie,
Moller is all over the place!
He needs some size, yes, he gets crunched quite often, but he gets hit so much because he is ALWAYS on the puck and ALWAYS making a quick decision and play with the puck. What a kid this guy is. He's going to score alot of goals in this league, pray most of them with us.
And for a guy who gets hit so much, he never seems rattled, and couldn't care less about getting hit.
The character has just been overflowing out of the whole team these last 3 games. Such a pleasure to watch.
Great win by the Kings, I wish I had tickets to drive up to Vancouver from Seattle on Friday and see them play. I can see the playoffs around the corner for my Kings!!!
What a Game by our boys! Teddy Purcell just deserving to be here more and more each game. Now we are realising why 25 teams were trying to Sign him as a free agent. Good job Dean
Great game by Stoll. Good coaching last evening. gauthier...please go home.
The Kings played two great periods last night and seemed to sit on their lead in the third and they never got anything going. That's always frustrating.
Quick let in a Cloutier tier goal...oops
Westgarth cracks me up. I know he's a knuckledragger but if we have to have one I like him over Ivanans.
Great power play last night. Purcell is starting to become comfortable in the NHL I think and looks good.
Handzus didn't get points but worked his ass off again.
Man the Kings couldn't clear the puck for anything at the end and Quick bailed them out along with Greene's face.
Great win against a very good team.
Westgarth. Best part of the fight was Hordichuk said something to him in the penalty box...not sure what it was, but probably something to the extent of "good fight" or "welcome to the league", because Westgarth just kinda grinned at him.
Purcell...THIS is the kid we have been waiting for. The last few games, THIS is the kid they signed and have been trying to mold, and THIS is the kid that allowed them to trade O'Sullivan (sorry Sully...grow a pair, and you would still be here).
Matt Greene...what more can be said that hasn't already been said. The man blocked a friggin shot with his noggin'. He is a warrior, has been all season. When we traded for him, I was elated. I loved Lubo, but I was so happy to be getting a guy like him and Stoll, two guys who will scrap and battle for every inch on the ice...I didn't know he would be willing to block a shot with his HEAD, but I knew he would battle!
