Let's go kings! It's 1-1, 2nd period. Let's bury those chances!

God, that horrible line with Ivanas and Westgarth forced Doughty to take a penalty. Lets ban the "staged" fighting so we'll never had to see these two idiots play again.

Just our luck to catch the sharks now that Nabokov is back.

Playing tough so far. Go kings!

It is funny watching the edmonton game, Crow keeps praising the hell out of Sully.

man if the kings can come outa SJ with a win, i will crap my pants with excitement.

I. Am. Losing. My. Mind. How do you screw up a 2 on none!!?!! If I ever see either of those players I'm going to go verbally apeshit on them.

We should of had this one. Simmonds was the best player on the ice for us tonight. I'm sure somebody is goint to find a way to blame TM. Let's see how long it takes.

Moondoggie said:

Tough loss but the Kings do pick up a point. Ersberg had a great game and was terrific in the shootout.

Curiously, why didn't Simmonds get a chance to shoot in the shootout, particularly when he'd played so well in regulation?

Anonymous said:

why oh why would you not choose Simmonds as one of your first shooters? He was playing well all night!!! He should have gone before doughty and Purcell.....grrrrrrr....and what the heck was Frolov smiling at....DAMN!!!
Well...on the bright side...we did play well...

BRS said:

After back to back games, does anybody know if the Kings will have practice tomorrow? Thanks.

Alen said:

Find a way to blame Terry Murray? YOU THINK? Guy is a hypocrite and his favoritism is just disgusting. Dustin Brown shouldn't even step foot on the ice in overtime after a HORRIBLE game, a ruined 2-0, and he is playing with NO HEART. Harrold is just a pathetic hockey player all around.

Anonymous said:

Words do not describe my frustration right now. 4 f-n chances to win the damn game and NOBODY can close the door???????

We wouldn't have even had to endure the OT if Brown and Kopitar would play like they belong on a 2 on none...Maybe you don't score on a stellar save, BUT SHOOT THE DAMN PUCK TO FIND OUT, WOULD YA?!?!

Until we start finding ways to win instead of finding ways to lose, we will NEVER make the playoffs.

Vasquez Author Profile Page said:

Ersberg stands on his head ESP in the shootout and nobody can score. Johnson scored by shooting obviously deking Nabokov did not work, so after that deking failed a couple times, try shooting Zeus and Purcell !!! I hope Williams can add som major offense cuz that was our game to steal

Tim Author Profile Page said:

Alen, I agree with you that Brown has been playing bad, but no heart.. GIVE ME A BREAK! Just because a guy has been playing bad the last few games doesn't mean he doesn't have any heart, it's probably the fact that his new baby boy is a 4 week premie. When you are given the C it's because you are the #1 team guy, and you have more heart than any other guy on that team. He lives here now, and doesn't do anything else over the summer other than to spend it at the practice rink and then go home to his fam. That to me doesn't sound like a guy that doesn't have any heart!

JPKelly said:

Considering Ersberg's strong play tonight, and Quick's less-than-stellar play of late, I wouldn't mind seeing Ersberg get a few starts next week. I'm sure he's hungry to prove that he can help the team as much as anybody. He also seems to be much cooler under pressure than JQ, and these upcoming games will be the most pressure this team has faced in a few years. Overall a really good effort tonight, all things considered.

Aaron said:

Ersberg was fantastic tonight. This was his opportunity after Quick had a rough game on Friday to step up/

I think Ersberg deserves a start on Monday night.

RJB said:

Would have been nice to see Mollar or William in the shootout (One Benched the other damaged on purchase) instead of... well... all our D man which seems to be our whole Offence ...Oh well
2009-2010 ..Keep up the B.S. Murray and AEG, we will keep coming back. (LOL)

Props to Old Man for commiting to next years Season Tix already! A True Fan......anda very nice guy to boot

Vasquez Author Profile Page said:

Wouldn't Moller have been better to have in the SO then Westgarth and Ivanans. Choose one fighter

Winsomemore said:

Ersberg got us this point.

Why Murray didn't put Simmonds in the shootout is beyond me. At least JMFJ was and scored.

Sharks played their "A" game both offensively and defensively. Kings played "A" defensively but definitely their "B" offensively.

Calder? Gone.

Handzus? Gone.

Brown, Frolov, Kopitar, Stoll, Purcell? All gone tonight.

No one in front of the net EXCEPT Simmonds who scored the only Kings goal.

How long does it *censored* take for this team to learn how to score goals in this league??

Anyway, glad we got the one point at least.

On the east coast so didn't see it, but was listening to XFM radio Edmonton game, and the Edm announcers were watching the KIngs SO and said they couldn't believe that the Kings kept shooting at Nabokov's glove in the SO. They were actually rather incredulous and said the Kings need to learn how to win these games - which we all know.

Ersberg was amazing tonight

I would of used Simmonds early in the shootout,it would have done wonders for his confidence.TM I can't figure out your thought process most of the time.I would highly reccomend THE BOOK OF LOGIC !

Man oh man, that 2 on 0 clean breakaway catastrophe with Brown and Kopi was hard to watch. It was just them and Nabokov and not one shot was attempted. What the hell was that?

Why wasn't O'Sullivan in the SO? Oh that's right.

Fire Lombardi. He's the master of this mess you are seeing now.

Blame the kids--it is all their fault that they choke.

No, the kids are not at fault, but the veterans who know better and knowing time is running out in a playoff chase, I don't think this team does not want to be challenged.

I think next season it time for the Kings to end the youth movement (there were some bright spots this year, like Doughhty, Simmonds, Quick, etc..) and get someone proven who is committed to winning.

Lombardi has to prove to this town that he has to build a winner here. He is not like Mc Court or Kupchack, who improve their teams--he traded away O' Sullivan, so that makes him one of the worse GM's the Kings ever had (With apolgies to the late Larry Regan).

Anonymous said:

GAYLE....what the heck are you talking about? Blah Blah Blah....this team has a great future...if one cannot figure that out one should not make ridiculous comments...geeez.

Johnb said:

The lack of confidence on this team is palpable on offense (defense too really). This is not a well coached team. We keep it simple all right, simply bad.

This is our attack 99% of the time- Dump it in, chase it down and cover on the boards a couple times (if were doing it right), kick it out to the point and take a long shot with nobody in front and the puck goes the other way. Does that about cover it Murray? These players look bad because they dont have any options.

Johnson and Doughty both have the moves and the shots to attack. Let them!

Gayle,

The master of this mess is building a winning team. There is a buzz throughout this league about the budding talent this young team has. The Kings are a player or two away from competing at the highest level. Be patient.

Old HB Kings Fan said:

Gayle, McCourt is an owner, Coletti is the GM of the Dodgers. Look guys, the only thing I blame here on this one is the following:

2 on none, pathetic to not get a good shot. Brown has probably never been in that situation before, and he handled it without decisiveness. Too many penalties. Giving up 8 or 9 penalties and having to kill them all destroys your momentum all night. In order to hang with SJ's powerful offense though, it was the result of the Kings having to press on defense. And finally, getting the WORST Shootout loss of the year, with 4 or 5 opportunities to close it out. Coaching for goalies, the PP, the PK, check, check, check. This team needs a Penalty Shot Coach. How many games did we lose this year in the shootout? If we get say 55% of those possible single points in our hands where would we be in the standings today? Someone research that one for us all.

Thanks.

Great game tonight. Outstanding effort despite the loss. A couple of huge missed chances, but they'll learn to bury them. And remember, they're still a young team. Imagine saying last year that we could get this close with the best team in the league. Shootouts aren't the best ways to decide games, but at least the Kings were able to get it there, especially with Simmonds' and Ersberg's stellar play. The chances are still super slim that we'll make it this year, but I love the effort I saw tonight. Go Kings!

O'Sullivan is good in a shootout?? HAHAHA!! He's the worst guy on the team with that same STUPID move he does EVERY time! He hasn't socred in the last 3 shootouts or on any breakaway he's had with that dumb move. Good thing he's not on the team or he might have taken JJ's spot in the shootout and it would have been over a lot sooner.

I love how the comments change almost daily on this entire blog. One day when we win over Vancouver early in the week it is: "oh my god our team is amazing, great coaching, great GM, kids are playing so hard and we are going to make playoffs" then after a loss to Vancouver and the best team in the leage, the Sharks, in a SO everyone is talking about how the coach is an idiot and he and Lombardi should be fired, the kids can't handle the pressure and are too young and our team is a disgrace.

Honestly this entire year has been better than anyone expected. I thought that maybe they would be in this position if they played well but didn't really expect them to. Lombardi and Murray have both done outstanding jobs and this team has played with a lot of heart this year. We are still a young team and pretty inconsistent but have played very well this year. There hasn't been a single game I can recall where they didnt have any energy and just kinda gave up(yes some games they started slow or lost energy at some point but they always rebounded and played with energy for most of the game). Last night's game was very well played by both sides. The Kings were very physical and managed to play with the Sharks very well. We had our chances to win just as San Jose had theirs but we lost in a SO to the best team in the league. We got a point and our playoff chances don't look good but we still have a shot and with these kids you never know. So stop whining and look at the positives rather than blaming the coach and the GM and one or two players you dislike, be realistic in your comments please without all the bias. Thank you

In hockey like soccer the best teams do not win all the time. Kings are close, very close, to being a monster team. Even games they lose they are close, right there. This is a young but pretty competitive team. F' the lateral trades. Kings are only 1-2 forwards away. If the Kings can draft a young'un with NHL game level talent then that will wld do just fine.

GoKIngs09, just wanted to say I thought your comments were very appropriate and well thought out. Obviously that isn't always the case on this site. I understand, it's an emotional sport and we all want the team to do well, but your "middle way" sort of approach is really seeing the bigger picture.

I will say this, I think while the Kings aren't mathematically eliminated yet, that any playoffs this year just isn't gonna happen. There are too many teams to jump over and they'd have to go on an eight game winning streak to make it happen... possible, yes, but not likely with the difficult schedule that they have.

I personally felt that Rich expressed the teams reality very well on Facewash... they've taken a big step, but they have now another big step that must be taken. Personally I really hope it will happen but it won't be easy. Mainly because so many of the other teams in the west are continually progressing (like St. Louis who has done so well in spite of all the injuries, and CBJ who now have outstanding goaltending and played most of the season with their outstanding rookie centerman out injured). I think much will depend on getting the goaltending stabilized. It's much better but still a bit erratic.
Also, they have to find a way to smooth out the ups and downs a bit more. 1 win in 12 games against three of the top teams in the west (Det, Vanc, SJ) imo will not be enough in any given year to get into the playoffs.

Anyway, I really was responding to those comments of GoKings09. Some people here are unfortunately just a tad too reactive. Hey, give it time. Terry Murray is new to this team and while all his decisions aren't perfect, give the guy some time.

I can't decide what was my favorite part of the game:

1. That our young core/leaders didn't really even get a shot on goal on a 2 on 0 breakaway

2. That only one person scored in the shootout (a defender)

3. Or that Ersberg deserved the win and the rest of the team couldn't pull it off for him

Aw I feel much better now that I have been able to vent. Thanks! Now I can look forward to the game tonight. Go Kings!

You know, I'm tired of this song and dance, "Be Patient." Be patient has been old hat now. We had chances for overtaking some teams and we blow it. This to me is inexusable.

I don't care how people feel, you have a right to your opinion as I have a right to mines. And yes, I know that Mc Court is an owner and Coletti is a GM.

I am a Kings fan, however, 5 years or whatever is too, too long for a rebuilding program. I know one thing, Lombardi and Murray better get their act together next year or they will be among the unemployed like the rest of us.
