Wow, that's cheap. Ersberg for $750k per year? If i'm not mistaken, LaBarbara was getting over $1 million. I'm surprised that Ersberg didn't get more.

Ersberg Author Profile Page said:

I'm good with $750k for EE. If it was a "Preissing" contract, no f'ing way. JB can wait for that price.

jeff said:

I'm surprised, I figured both players would get more. On side note, Quick looks shakey to me. I'd like to see Ersberg play more down the stretch.

Ersberg Author Profile Page said:

Side note, as far as action on our part up to this point goes...

Just walked in, good to see O'Donn and Iceberg have been resigned. Looks like we make our move at the draft. I'm good with that, for what we're looking for, that's a best option. I can wait a few more months.

Is it me, or did the Coyotes get real good value for Jokinen?

BakoCACondorsKingsFan said:

Seems to me that this is punishment for the wicked/ No trades to get rid of players (save the waivers dump of Preissing), resign the worthy--D-man mentor + backup goalie...

Good. Make these guys understand it's all up to them. They can play better, everyone knows it! Let's see how they finish, this year...

Cynic Author Profile Page said:

Now with the deadline passed, with all the cap space we still have, the draft looks to be FUN! We can basically outbid ANYONE for the offense we need!

EAT THE RICH Author Profile Page said:

Would have liked some acquisitions of good talent, but I'm okay with what we did/n't do.
Good price on bergie, but maybe a bit high with O'D.
It'll be interesting to see how we look for the remainder of the season.
I hope we get to see some of the prospects - Voinov, Cliche, Clune, etc.

cheers all.

Ersberg Author Profile Page said:

Really? Can we outbid teams for the players we want? It appears those "players" are already set in contracts, are staying with their current teams(as many have stated today), or will go with proven teams.

Since we didn't lure a player into our midst today, we're going to have to wait much longer than just this offseason to aquire anything better and/or more experienced than what we already have.

I'm not saying Dean didn't do his job, I'm saying it appears there's just not much out there for what we need, and that makes sense in both the short and long term.

Well keep in mind the cap. Yes we have significant room when compared to other teams, but again nobody expected this season to produce significant trades. The market is low, both player and salary cap wise. I also do not think we'll have to wait longer than the summer. I believe this draft will see an increase in activity when everyone has a better idea of where their budgets are at. In my opinion, I think teams that are close to the cap ceiling now will be heavy sellers during draft time when the new cap number is announced, and we could bet that it will decrease for 09-10.

Justin Williams is definitely an upgrade :)

Terry Murray was a scout for Philly from 2000-2003, so maybe he knows more about Williams than a bunch of armchair internet GMs.

tantrum4 Author Profile Page said:

Williams gives us over 500 games of NHL experience, and can put the puck in the net, when he's healthy. O'Sullivan seemed to play with no passion this year and kept using that same STUPID move in the shootout and can't score. I like Williams a lot and he's not too old and has a decent contract.

mrbrett7 Author Profile Page said:

Very similar players, but the main difference is that Williams will go to the net, and Patrick is afraid of the net.

Chris Bond Author Profile Page said:

He gives us a broken hand and helps us not make it THIS YEAR!!

OCPiker Author Profile Page said:

Well my only concern with this trade is he traded for an injury-prone player. When you look at his career, Williams has been out of a lot games due to various injuries.

However, I do think he does have the potential to be a scoring threat. You look at his stats and when he's healthy, he seems to be able to put the puck in the net (refer to '05-07 stats).

I think the only reason I see Sully being expendable is the fact that it could be a personality conflict with members of the organization.

Ersberg Author Profile Page said:

I don't like his stats. He's only played 2 full seasons out of 9, and has been on many teams since coming into the league. What's he like in the locker room? Why did he go after an injury-prone guy?

I need someone to enlighten me of his upsides, when you get a chance please.

TB said:

Good luck Sully! I want only the best for ya!

But, this is a biz...no tears shed here. Williams brings experience and guts to the table. And his character is certainly there. Its one of those deals where nobody can be sure who the winner really is, but we just acquired a stanley cup winner. And thats a very big deal to a young team like the kings.

AK47 Author Profile Page said:

I'm actually going to cry.. Wtf is DL doing trading O'Sullivan away? The kid was having ONE bad year, and he trades him away for an injury prone Justin Williams..

wow I'm so disappointed.. We didn't even get Gaborik

Duckhunter Author Profile Page said:

It wasn't the holdout, he just plain stunk this year. Why I don't know!! He has talent, but for some reason he put it in the closet this year. This move doesn't surprise me.

28 KINGS Author Profile Page said:

"wow I'm so disappointed.. We didn't even get Gaborik"

Nobody's getting Gaborik until the draft or July 1st. The risk is too high knowing Gaborik injury and and that he'll be a UFA. Trading anything but a pick would be really bad asset management.

I'm glad they gave another year to O'Donnell. He's been real important to the growth of our young defense.
