O'Sullivan's first (new) home game
![]()
It's pretty remarkable that Patrick O'Sullivan has played eight consecutive road games. The Kings had just concluded their five-game road trip when he got traded to Edmonton, and then he played three road games for the Oilers. Tonight, O'Sullivan makes his home debut for the Oilers, against Atlanta.
In a story in today's National Post, O'Sullivan talked about his new teammates. ``It's a group of guys who, for the most part, are in the same age bracket," said O'Sullivan, ``and I've only been here for a few days, but you can see that everyone cares about each other in the dressing room. That's something that makes for a better team.''
Hectic time for new Oiler O'Sullivan
In the random-and-unimportant-stat department, O'Sullivan played in Edmonton, with the Kings, on Nov. 26 and had one goal and one assist in a 2-1 Kings victory.

Tonight is a huge night for the Kings:
EDM/ATL
MIN/COL
STL/SJS
NSH/NYR
DAL/CAR
CBJ/PIT
Go Thrashers, Avs, Sharks, Rangers, Canes and Pens!
Normally I'm apathetic to players after they leave the Kings, but I'll alway hope that Sully finds success. I have respect for people that can overcome obstacles and be successful despite the bad hand life has dealt them. I hope Sully is a 30 goal guy with frequent trips to the western conference finals (losing to the Kings of course).
Quisp,
I like seeing a lot of eastern conference teams playing our rivals because it makes those overtimes games a less annoying. Freaking Vancouver had to tie the game with the Ducks late in the third yesterday.
Isn't pretty much every night big for the Kings from here on out because either they are playing or a couple of the people right around them in the standings are playing????
"In 2006, he was traded from the Minnesota Wild to the Kings, along with a 17th-round pick, for Pavol Demitra"
Wow...that's an extremely long draft... :-p
Nice going copy editors.
There is something wrong with that picture.
Sully is around the net!
In all seriousness, I wish him all the best up there.
Without getting too cheesy here, Sully was one of my favorite Kings from the moment he was traded here. I kept up with his stats in the AHL because he was a rookie kicking butt. I'm sure he'll really step it up now.
And to be honest, I didn't know that Williams would command a talent like Patrick in return. O'Sullivan's value must have been pretty high. But I was hoping he would get traded to the East coast and stay out there. Now he's in our conference and he's going to light-up Los Angeles every time he plays them. Great.
Sully will not be lighting anything up when back in LA. We all know his favorite move. Unless he gets a new move(which i doubt) quick and iceberg should be able to stop him. That is if doughty doesnt stop him before that lol.
wow i had no idea that his dad was such a jerk! No wonder the kid never cracked a smile. I bet that @ss is regretting it now. Son's a multi-millionaire nhl'r! Way to go Sully! Good luck to you kid!
it's nice to hear that sully has put the detrimental elements of his personal life regarding his father behind him...you never really know how each nhl'er gets to where they are at...i heard about sully's rough upbringing before and that gave me an insight as to what it must have been like for him matriculating through the minors and not having a parent provide healthy support and guidance...i really hope he finds a home w/the oilers and goes on to have a successful nhl career...if he can learn how to go to the net more often and play in the slot/trenches, he will have a bright future...right now, sully lives on the perimeter and on breakaways/2-1/3-2 advantages...i sincerely hope he can develop into a 30+ goal scorer and help whatever team he plays on...good luck!
I knew it... don't hold out against Deano! He don't like it!
Nice catch on the 17th round pick! LOL!!!!
I think all of crap he went through is what made him such a fan favorite. Taylor came out of college, which was a rare transition back then, especially from Clarkson. Luc Robitaille could not skate and was drafted in the tenth round. I thought POS would be next.
Anyway, I do hope POS is successful. I also hope Williams can provide the leadership to the forwards that O'D has provided to the D.
Hey variable – looks like my oldest is headed to Cal. Is there anything he needs besides a fro and a VW bus?
Mrbrett,
Although he may be around the net. He's definitely not in front of it. There is a better chance of getting a picture of Bigfoot in front of the net before you see one of Softy.. Oops I meant Sully, in front any net.
Be nice now HB fan...
Most people felt he dropped to the 2nd round soley because of his father and what happened. He definately had/has 1st round talent, but they questioned his head.
I'll be watching and cheering for Sully.
Cheering for Sully Anthony???
Last time I checked, we are chasing Sully and the Edmonton Oilers for the last playoff spot. I hope Sully and the Edmonton Oilers play like CRAP!!!
There is something wrong with that picture.
Sully is around the net!
What you don't see is immediately after that photo was taken, he shot it wide.
The kid going to Cal needs a gift card to the coffee house of his choice, which he can hit on the way to the library. The Cal students are smart and study. The school is tough. No long hours in study, then C's, D's and, if he drinks too much, F's. If he does well, get him his own tap for the keg on football weekends. No need for a car. Public transport will suffice. In fact, at Cal a car is a nice but an unnecessary luxury. Save that for years 3-4.
Sully scored a gol tonight.
Please, we 'collectively' DO care for the guy, 'sully' and wish him a long and successful career.
He is no longer a King.
Wish him well, and move on.
Sully scored a typical top shelf goal.
Something DL would not have clue about.
I saw him cycle the puck more today than any other time when he was king.
He looks a lot more comfortable with the oilers and their system..
Ive noticed the kings do have better forwards than the Oilers.
But Mactavish is a hundred, no a thousand time better than TM at coaching.
They use a system and are very creative offensively.
Something our two coaches don't understand.
I'm with you Anthony. Congrats on sully's goal tonite
Sully will be a solid 25-30 goal scorer, especially Playing on the best ice in the league.
Rough night for the kings tonite eh?
Good for Sully.
Nice goal too. In ultimate irony, it was exactly the goal we wanted him to score more often, on the exact shot Edmonton fans will now pull their hair out over when it continuously goes wide and on the enemie's stick.
It was really nice the way his teammates congratuled Sully, they knew it was special for the kid to get his legs going with the team.
That said, I'm thrilled they lost. Tonight was kind of a wash for the Kings.
Avs win but in OT... Grrr
Preds lose
Oils lose
Jackets win
Stars and Blues win sting the most.
Let's upset those canuckleheads on their ice!
I'm looking for a big rebound from Frolov. Hopefully not getting to be on the ice for that last great win, he'll take this game as a chance to make a real statement about his worth. With any luck, the long layoff has his chomping at the bit to get out there and contribute and enjoy another joyous win over the ladies in blue.
Jimmy
I'll play devil's advocate
He was traded for damaged goods and we had to throw a 2nd rd pick in as well...How low was Sully's Value?
I don't know about him lighting us up every time he plays us. He's only got 15 goals. He hasn't been lighting much this year.
I liked Sully when he was here, but once you leave you're gone. I only care about players wearing the Kings jersey.
I usually go by the old saying: Good luck as long as your success doesn't interfere with mine.
In this case since we will always be in competition with the Oilers, his success is bad for us.
Anthony
You said more nice things in that one statement about Sully than you've said about the Kings all year. What gives?
Gotta agree with nykingfan, I too only care about players wearing a Kings jersey.
Good for O'Sullivan.
It's just the beginning for him, hopefully.
Wow.
On a side note, Bogosian has 5 goals, 5 assists in 33 games compared to 4 goals, 17 assists for 21 points in 65 games for Doughty.
All after suffering a broken leg early in the season.
Cristobal
Nice stats, but I'll take what Doughty gives us no matter how good Bogosian is playing.
Doughty's a perfect example of how stats can be mis-leading. Someone reads his line and wonders why we talk about him in terms of how amazing he is now and how he's well on his way to being a future superstar. Those numbers don't show it, but his play sure does.
Cristobal,
Those stats aren't really any different from Doughty's.
10 pts in 33 games means he's on pace for 20 in 66 (I know there aren't enough games left for him to reach 66). Doughty has 21 pts in 65 games. Anyway, both are studs, we knew that at the draft. I don't take your comment as critical or anything, I just know Doughty's got great character and wants to be here. It's unreal that an elite young d-man wanted to be drafted here specifically, when you think about it.
JET:
sorry this is late...computer issues...don't ask...!
yeah...there's something else...lots 'o' money...!
i don't know where you and yr son are from...maybe back east...then you can both relate...
california aint cheap...and l.a. is even more expensive...
i imagine he's coming out here for work or school...i wish him luck...!
NYKingsfan,
Wiliams will never come close to scoring 15 goals again.
Bogosian is +7 playing on a horrible defensive team.
