-- The Kings have now lost three consecutive games and are (edit) 1-5 in their last six. The Kings fell to 26-27-9 and fell under .500 for the first time since Jan. 31.

-- With the loss, the Kings remain in 13th place in the Western Conference six points out of eighth place and four points ahead of last-place Colorado.

-- The Kings had beaten Chicago twice this season, by identical scores of 5-2 at Staples Center. The teams meet again on March 22 in Chicago.

-- The Kings dropped to 2-21-4 when trailing after two periods, and 4-21-6 when allowing the first goal.

-- The Kings were outshot 38-24, following Friday's game against Detroit, in which they were outshot 41-31.

-- The Kings have scored four regulation goals in their last four games and, at one point. This streak follows a four-game stretch in which the Kings totaled 15 goals.

-- The Kings made more mild line changes. Brad Richardson, inserted into the lineup because of Raitis Ivanans' injury, played on a line with Jarret Stoll and Teddy Purcell. Kyle Calder, who had been a winger on that line, dropped to the fourth line alongside Derek Armstrong and Peter Harrold. Drew Doughty and Sean O'Donnell once again became a defensive pair, as Jack Johnson skated with Denis Gauthier and Matt Greene skated with Kyle Quincey.

-- The Kings placed Raitis Ivanans on injured reserve and activated Tom Preissing from injured reserve. Ivanans left Friday's game in the second period after being hit in the head. Preissing has missed 14 games because of dizziness issues.

-- Anze Kopitar had one goal and one assist. Kopitar had gone three consecutive games without a point and now has 14 points (eight goals, six assists) in his last 13 games.

-- Jonathan Quick stopped 34 of 38 shots. He allowed three goals on 14 shots in the first period, then stopped 23 of 24 over the final two periods. Quick is now 2-4-1 in his last seven starts, following an eight-game stretch in which he went 7-1.

-- Jack Johnson scored a first-period goal. Johnson has four goals and one assist in the 19 games since his return from shoulder surgery.

-- Drew Doughty had one assist. Doughty had gone six consecutive games without a point.

-- Kyle Calder had one assist. Calder had gone five consecutive games without a point.

-- Teddy Purcell had one assist. It was Purcell's first point in four games since being recalled from Manchester,

-- The Kings went 1-for-4 on the power play. Chicago went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Kings had been 3-for-16 on the power play and 10-for-11 on the penalty kill in their previouds four games.

-- Drew Doughty led the Kings in ice time, at 24:34. Alexander Frolov led all Kings forwards at 20:12. Anze Kopitar led the Kings with four shots on goal. Denis Gauthier was credited with a team-high four hits.

were just too inconsistent at times in games and it really hurts us - Q again with 2 soft goals esp the 3rd one where we had just had a solid PK - hitting the post to tie was a drag - also had a couple hawk TOs that led to slot chances that we could not convert- I'll say it again no matter what happens the rest of the yr - this team is on the path to great things down the road and we have blown past any expectations that I had coming into the yr- 40 more pts out there lets see if we can get 30-
I would like to see E get more starts in net - I like his game a great deal -

Chicago's rookie goalie was terrible, he made not one big save and on every shot he looked behind him, but yet, the Kings only took about 20 shots! O'Sullivan misses the net nearly ever time he shoots, when the puck comes back to the point-men, they fake a shot and dump into the corner (esp. Gauthier), get the puck on net, get a tip, something. Matt Greene also can't hit the net and takes the worst penalties, this team is done, plain and simple. I hope we're not buyers because it's a pointless venture

I really want to see Brownie off of that line with Kopi and Fro. It's showing the same results it did when Sully was there in place of Fro, very little offensive production because the three leading goal scorers are all on that line. Too much self want especially by Kopi and Fro. Brownie was open at the side of the net and Fro won't pass the puck for a possible tap in goal. Kopi and Brownie on a 2 on 1 in the third and Kopi opts to take a shot with Brownie open. I'm not blaming Kopi and Fro for anything other than trying to hard to make things happen on their own. I also think Brownie needs to get back into that physical game he's best at. It makes things open up for the Kings. The CBS line had some major scoring going on there and it needs to come back. Also, would someone please teach Sully how to cut to the middle for a shot? Everytime he carries up the side boards he stays wide and takes that low pct shot and he's more talented that he's showing. Make a move Patrick.

that was one of the worst games i have seen them play as a team. yes some individuals played well but quick knocking in an goal and bad penalties taken= no playoffs for us. we do not deserve to be in the playoffs with how bad we have been playing lately. all i have to say is pathetic!

Who does DL have to sell that has some high prospect value?
Frolov? Maybe a second rounder and prospect
Nobody wants Gauthier? A soda and 2 pucks
Handzus? Third rounder
Armstrong? Some popcorn

Ersberg? third rounder
Preissing?

If anything DL could offload a contract from teams that are worst off.

We need scoring and selling Frolov is not the thing to do.
Where's Demitra? We don't have a point per game player in the line up?
The last two I remember that were point per page were PALFFY and DEMITRA.

Hrmmm as a Kings fan up in Canadaland, its been pretty disappointing seeing them slip again. But whats up with the last comment? Ersberg for a 3rd rounder? Handzus for a 3rd rounder? Why don't you trade Brown for a 2nd round pick while yr at it!!

Ya, Frolov is worth a lot more then just a 2nd round pick and a prospect.. Frolov will only get dealt if he's apart of a package deal for a superstar, like Kovalchuk. I can see DL trading for a guy like Valtteri Filppula for expiring contracts, like Sean O'Donnell and Kyle Calder.

Just got back from the game...

Watching the pre-game shoot-around I worried it would be a bad game for Quick when he got beat 3 times in a row by outside shots.

Sulli looks even worse in person than on TV. If you were to switch jerseys with him and Moulson, you'd send send him down to Manchester. Frankly, I'd take Moulson. Sulli can't skate with the puck, really can't pass, isn't hustling, and avoids high-contact areas. Soft.

Kopi looked strong. Really strong. Fro did too, he's looking a bit more at the net and even trying to take it there.

The Kings don't seem to be as aggressive up the ice as they were earlier in the season. We're losing in the 3rd and they're still dropping back, leting the Hawks take it to us.

Very little sense of desparation out there. They didn't give up, but they didn't die trying either.

Yes! Sell Sell Sell!!!

Stockpile assets and find that sucker GM who will make the next Joe Thornton trade.

Dreger at TSN says the Kings have expressed interest in Ryan Smyth. He'd be a good pickup - top 6 forward with grit. He's 32 and a 6.25 million cap hit for the next 3 seasons. Leads the Avs in scoring this season. Also has a No-Movement clause so he'd have to be convinced to leave.

How bout getting Malkin this summer? Damn that would be sweet.

The Kings did WIN that Minnesota game, so they are not 0-5-1 in their last six... they are 1-5-0...

Now is the time to start putting into motion a deal that will shed Handzus' 4M for the next 2 years and bank that money towards a REAL scorer in the off season.

Wait the good news is that we are going home where we play great....Did I mention this sucks?...Well it does.

You guys ever seen that movie major league? They need that card board cut out of a hot chick that they pull off a peice of clothing everytime they win. Or TM needs to take a axe to the ping pong table..something to get them going and not playing like little girls. With that said I love the Kings have from the time I was 5 years old and now I am 33 and I am tired of saying mabey next year. Now with this blog at least I have a way to vent....Thanks Rich.

If this team needs to employ anything from the movie Major League its make Matt Greene and Goat do 50 push ups for every penalty they take.

I'm afraid its time to say that the Kings season probably ended today. It's too bad but in essence, the Kings have to almost play .750 hockey to be able to even have a chance at the playoffs and that just isn't going to happen with this team. The funny thing (and there's very little that's funny about this) is that this has been one of the most enjoyable seasons we've had in years. The Kings have been fun to watch for sure, albeit inconsistant. They've beat some great teams and lost to some terrible teams. They've won a few they should have lost and lost quite a few they should have won. Most glaring, they truly need a bonified sniper, someone that is a threat to score everytime they step out on to the ice. I always loved some of the Kings snipers of the past, Dionne, Gretz, Demitra, all bonified scorers.

While it's unlikely anyone in the caliber of those mentioned above will be available, the Kings need to pursue someone who can put the biscuit in the basket for the long term. For the first time this season, it may be time for DL to take a look at his young assets and trade for a sniper. I hate saying that because I love watching these kids compete. But the fact is, there are no bonified scorers on the Kings or in the minors. There are a few that have potental, Cameron with the Belleville Bulls, Lokitonov of the Spits and Azevedo with the Monarchs come to mind but all are a long ways off. The Kings have a pretty good glut of young defensemen, goalies and draft picks for those teams that are rebuilding. They have cap space, something that few buyers have. The focus certainly should be on the long term good of the team, not a short term fix or a rental just for this season. We've been there, we've done that, enuf said.

I've enjoyed watching Calder, Zeus and even Goat (mistakes not withstanding) play this year. I think the Kings have some assets to play with. I'd hate to see Zeus traded for all he's brought to LA this season. OD? Goat?? Calder??? Perhaps and even Zeus if he would bring LA some scoring and/or young talent. The bottom line, the Kings are stocked in the minors with youth in the wings ready to play in the NHL. They should be afforded their chance. That may mean trading away some of the the Kings veteran players for either a sniper and/or youth and picks. I'd be looking at being a buyer, looking at possibly Ilya Kovalchuk. He's only 25 and although he not a strong defensive player, he can score. The big question would be what would it cost the Kings to land him.

So many questions but the good news is that the Kings have many options. My guess, DL's phone is ringing off the hook. Somehow I see him as being a player this Wednesday. We'll keep our fingers crossed. For what DL has done for this team which has been been nothing short of brillant, the future for the Kings is just around the corner and very bright indeed. I'm confident he'll make the right moves that will make the Kings contenders for years to come.
