Postgame notes (3/19)
-- The Kings bucked a couple negative trends with Thursday's victory. They had been 3-23-4 when trailing after two periods, 2-16-5 when trailing after one period and 5-22-7 when allowing the first goal this season. The Kings also had an 0-5-1 record in their last six road games.
-- The Kings outshot the Bruins 38-26. The Kings had not outshot an opponent since their March 5 victory over Dallas.
-- The Kings went 1-for-3 on the power play and killed all four Boston power plays. The Kings are 15-for-16 on the penalty kill in their last three games.
-- Drew Doughty had a goal and an assist to break a five-game streak without a point. Doughty recorded his sixth multi-point game of the season (all have been two-point games).
-- Jonathan Quick stopped 24 of 26 shots. Quick had lost four consecutive road games and, in his last three road games, had allowed a total of 13 goals.
-- Teddy Purcell had an assist. Purcell now has three goals and five assists in his last nine games.
-- Dustin Brown scored the winning goal in overtime and broke a nine-game streak without a goal. Brown now has one point and one assist in his last two games, after totaling only one point in his previous four games. Brown also had a team-best seven shots on goal.
-- Wayne Simmonds had two assists for the first multi-point game of his career. Simmonds now has points in three consecutive games, after going nine consecutive games without a point.
-- Alexander Frolov did not record a point and had his point streak ended at seven games, one short of matching his career best.
-- Derek Armstrong had an assist. Armstrong had recorded only two points in his previous 23 games.
-- Michal Handzus had a goal. Handzus has two goals and two assists in his last three games.
-- Sean O'Donnell had an assist to break a 17-game stretch without a point.

Great win by the boys tonight! Glad to see the never quit attitude from this team. Great character win! Wayne Simmonds was fantastic once again. Way to go kings! TM looked thrilled for a change. So happy to see Brown get the game winner!
I love the fact that TM separated Ivanans and Westgarth on different lines. This way, there will be at least one player always on the ice willing to drop the gloves, whether its the 3rd line with Westgarth/Simmonds, or the fourth line with Ivanans/Armstrong, or every defensman with the exception of Doughty. TM is the best coach this organization has ever had. Love the fact that he benched Frolov, can't wait until he gets traded in the offseason.
Just curious, what do you guys think about trading Kopitar and someone else, like JMFJ for a guy like Rick Nash? I would do it, JMFJ is going to be a free agent, Kopi has a large salary, why not bring another north american to play alongside Brown?
Why in the world would we trade Jack Johnson and Kopitar? Johnson is a restricted free agent this summer and we just re-signed Kopitar to a huge contact... Let's be realistic here.
Handzus is having such a nice comeback year. It's unfortunate he doesn't get enough credit. He's the comeback player of the year for the Kings, no doubt.
Like i said a few weeks ago....i think the shootout against SJ...Frolov pisses me off...he has the capability to be just as good as Ovetchkin....but he is SOOO lazy sometimes it kills me. GRRRR. Good for TM to bench him....maybe that will work.
So somebody please tell me what was up with Frolov this game. Be reasonable. He had a long talk with Murray a week or so ago and is now in his doghouse. Haven't seen him play in a while so looking for some actual situations which may have landed him on the bench.
Great third period and a great character comeback win in OT. A very exciting comeback win in hostile, hated Beantown.
Wayne Simmonds was my #1 Star of the game, followed by Drew Doughty and Michael Handzus. Actually, Handzus was more of the unsung hero as his poise when the Kings were down in the third really impressed me. Wayne Simmonds is becoming a monster with that puck. Great hustle!
Brown did score the GWG tonite, but he was relatively quiet for the most part. I thought Anze Kopitar really dominated in the third period. He was really working the Bruin defenders down low. Doughty did a helluva Ray Bourque impersonation in Beantown tonite. I'm sure he'll get some East Coast love for once when the highlight reels roll.
And like it or not, Derek Armstrong deserves some props for some nice playmaking on the game-tying goal.
If they could only find the urgency to play a full 60 minutes rather than wait till they are desperate. It's so frustrating to see that lack of intensity for the first 40 minutes...
Jack Johnson redeemed himself after some careless, undisciplined play in the first two periods. He has all the tools, but he is a loose cannon and he needs to learn to play his position and not wander so much. Fortunately, that can be taught. But will he learn?
Overall though, nice so see that the Kings didn't quit when most of the fans did...
A big hill to climb, but it's on to the Igloo and let's win this next one in 'The Burgh'.
GO KINGS GO!
Data - I think with Frolov, that the effort is there physically, but not always mentally. The extra effort he put in over summer definitely shows up in his game when he wants to, but there within lies the problem. A play I saw tonight that made me nuts was a wrap around on the forehand with time and he shot the puck on the ice. A low % play against a NHL G. His defensive lapse on the first Bruin goal was inexcusable. Just 2 plays I noticed.
You know, I've read some people partially blaming Frolov for the second goal, but it was Johnson who coughed up the puck in his own zone that led to the goal. Maybe Frolov flaked on the backcheck?
Oh yeah, and Johnson left Krecji (sp) alone in the slot for his goal as well. In any case, I reiterate:
JOHNSON SUCKS. What the hell is wrong with this kid?
Yeah that's a great idea Khanon81- lets trade a 21 year old player who is signed for the next seven years and has already averaged over 0.88 points per game in his first three seasons AND a 22 year old RFA blue-chip defenceman for a 0.79 point per game player who is an UNRESTRICTED free agent at the end of next year. Genius, pure genius.
Seriously, i honestly wonder why some people are kings "fans" given their clear and generally irrational hate of management, the coaches, or their ever-present desire to trade away current kings players.
Happy for Brown,he needed a boost.Great game for Drew as well.Kopi is struggling along with Johnson.Do they actually know their defensive assignments?Because it is clear to me they do not and they seem lost. The indicator is the bad plus/ minus they own.
Simmonds caught my eye during the rookie tournament in 07/08 training camp...... This guy is going to be a stud, he is already showing it. Wait until he puts on 20 lbs, and works on his shot.
Anthony, I dont know if you saw my comment on a previous post, but I was extremely excited to find out you were an attorney. I guessed it right away. I even told my buddy who posts on here that I would bet the farm that you were a lawyer.
Khanon, since you talk smack, I don't mind saying it but per usual your comments are absurd.... believe me I am all about physical play, but Ivanans and Westy have no business being in the line-up on the same nights. Westy moves a lil bit better then ivanans, but I would take a guy like Neil, Carcillo, Ott,Eager,Hordichuk, Mcleod or even Avery (for that matter) over the both of them in a heartbeat. Neither of them fight very often or particularly well. Ivanas is a tripod on the ice, and Westy just doesnt belong in the NHL. Hate to break it to you but HEAVYWEIGHTS are a dying breed. You also made a blanket statement about people on here having a low hockey IQ and you are'nt surprised because LA isnt a hockey town.... First off you dont know anyone here or where they have played for that matter, and secondly what makes you so special?
It boggles my mind that after a win like this, where a young team that committed several mental mistakes early in the game against a top notch opponent ( which young teams are prone to do) comes back, buckles down to pull out an awesome win. The usual suspects can do nothing but complain. Hardy made a comment about how "The Room" was good before the 3rd period and the guys were pushing each other to go out and play better. It is a damn good thing our usual suspects weren't in the room or we would have lost 6-0. It becomes quite obvious that these guys have never been in "A Room" in ther lives because their attitude would have gotten their asses thrown out of it or traded like all of the malcontent, me first players they lament DL trading. If they were true King fans they would be elated on how our future stars went out and battled in the 3rd tonight. And sometimes, a blind squirrel goes and TAKES the friggin nut!
Go Kings!!
It seems like Moller and especially Purcell made Sully expendable. Does anyone think Simmonds might make Fro expendable, in terms of trading Fro for a sniper? I don't think Sims will be as much of a goal scorer by any means, but he will score more nontheless. Fro has always been the monster puck handler on this team, but now Sims is starting to show that he can really hang on to the thing too, in his rookie year no less. And he never takes a game off.
And not to knock Sully, but it's interesting that Edm won 8-1 tonight and he had 1 assist (on a power play) and was a -1. It's tough to be a minus 1 when your team wins by 8-1!
Lastly, Kings really crashed the net tonight. Bravo.
Frustrating to see Stoll cough it up and the red line and the Bruins go the other way on an outnumbered attack that Quick made a great save on right before the Kings tied it and Stoll gets OT minutes but Fro gets benched.
Where's the consistency?
Rick Nash is sssooooo overrated. Let's not even go there, please...
Leave Frolov alone 28 gols , who is better?
