Rich,
your tone says it all
so tell me, rich, whaddaya really think????
the season is over...
down goes frazier...!
Is that your passive aggressive way of telling us that you think this trade stinks?
Rich....I am furious too. I need an explanation here. We got a guy who had 2 good seasons coming of a major achilles tendon injury and a broken hand. DL...we are waiting for your explanation and it better not be a generic BS answer.
The Preissing move could work out very well for the young guys in Manchester. A couple of years back, Marty Murray (already here) and TvO helped the Narchs to a very deep run. The more games the young Narchs see, the better...
Sully's development curve had been flatline for some time. Between the hold-out and lack of production in the top-6, I see the deal as Lombardi swapping questionable contracts and really nothing more than that...
It must be tough to be a beat writer for a team that trades away young guys like Sully for guys like Alyn McCauly, I mean Justin Williams.
Sorry, different guy.
So how must Tom Preissing feel today, heading to the minors? What on earth did the guy do wrong to be treated this way by the organization? This does not appear to be a Cloutier situation with a long term injury. I know we are going young but why make him a healthy scratch forever, then put him on IR with "dizziness" and then waive him and send him to the minors. If he was going down on a conditioning assignment I'd feel better about it but now it appears he'll just play out the string and then get bought out. 4 years of buyout payments on the way...
Justin Williams is a proven 30 goal scorer. Not to mention a major part of Carolina's cup run. It’s a gamble, but if he ever gets healthy, WATCH OUT! The dude's got a great set of hands, and I'm sick of watching Sully doing his little curl n' drag, instead of looking for a one-timer. The Kings need another goal scorer on the power play that will actually score goals. Sully’s got talent, but he just hasn’t been able to finish when the Kings really need him to –like Brownie. Maybe Williams can be that extra weapon on the wing…? Only time will tell. I just don’t understand why Lombardi felt the need to throw in the 2nd round pick.
Not Alyn McCauly, Cloutier and Valeri Bure....
I get your point Rich, Preissing should have been left with the big club and moved to wing, same result.
Rich, you hadn't ever heard of Justin Williams before today. Your snide comment speaks volumes about the journalistic integrity here. Nice hockey market.
Okay, so I have lost track of how many players we have on the active roster now:
[I assume Williams is IR]
Kopitar, Frolov, Brown, Stoll, Handzus, Richardson, Moller, Purcell, Armstrong, Zeiler, Ivanans, Calder, Moller, Simmonds, Doughty, Johnson, Quincey, Greene, O'Donnell, Harrold, Gauthier, Quick, Ersberg.
That's 23. Assuming that Ivanans is NOT on IR, and Williams IS.
So, there must be a call-up in our future. Lewis? Or is it time to try out Azevedo?
Oh, two Mollers. Wishful thinking. So, two call-ups?
I actually really like Preissing as a player and feel like he got the shaft this season. Sure he had a crappy +/- but he also got stuck playing with Goat. The last game he played he was like a -3 and all three of those were HORRIBLE giveaways by Gautier. Yet Denis was back in the lineup like clockwork and Tom hasn't played since. The nepotism displayed by coaching and management towards former Flyers makes me want to vomit and is on display again today with this brutal Justin Williams trade.
wtf? played only 32 games and has 3 goals...and we gave up POS for that?
yeah...def. someone gets called up...
...and the path to the playoffs begins...when...next year...?
this is a big risk/reward...
demitra is basically traded for williams....
i'm very nervous about this one...
d.l. has made a very strange decision...
does this help the frolov situation...?
who are we opening up a top-six spot for...?
is this in lieu of a bigger fish come july 1st/draft day...?
sully was obviously a bigger problem than we even have alluded to...we are obviously not privy to the real reasons why this was done just yet...
i'm very anxious to hear d.l.'s statement/presser regarding this decision....!
absolutely horrible decisions the last few days,
oh my god.
Ugh. =(
UGH! =((
Since Decemeber when I finally got the extra money to get a jersey for the first time...an O'Sullivan jersey...my friend has been joking "hey! did you hear?! they traded O'Sullivan!"
UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Yeah, this really makes everything seem fuzzy and disheartening about the entire organization.
And, love the tone, Rich. haha. I enjoy the honesty on your part.
The blogs next entry will be:
Los Angeles Kings sent to manchester.
...REALISTICALLY
I just want to know if they are going to keep that intermission promo with Tom and the zamboni driver on the cell phone still going or are they gonna replace him with Williams. It is important that you get this information for me, Rich.
Rich, please ask DL why he would give up the 2nd rounder? I know we don't have much playoff experienced guys, and this is most likely why he wanted to acquire Justin Williams..
Hopefully we call Trevor Lewis up and play him on the 1st or 2nd line.. It would be nice to see Azevedo play, he'll have to prove something out there..
Just awful DL needs to be traded.
What confuses me is that we're basically just going to throw Preissing away for nothing, and they continue to let Denis Gauthier play. Is Preissing really worse than Gauthier? Is anyone worse than Gauthier? I don't recall Preissing playing so bad at any point that he'd be worth demoting. Why don't we just take Preissing out back and shoot him. You'd get the same result either way.
Bring on John Tavares...
I really wish we would have gone after Antropov, Carcillo, and Pahlsson-to replace Armstrong. We had the picks and the players to have brought it all together.
wha-wha-wha what happened?!?! Deano, you have some splain'n to do!!!
Exactly.. Tommy Preissing at least gives his heart when he plays.. He deserves more playing time then Denis Gauthier.. I think LA should run Gauthier out of town..
Frolov-Kopitar-Moller
Lewis-Stoll-Brown
Richardson-Handzus-Simmonds
Calder-Armstrong-Purcell
Doughty-Johnson
Greene-Quicey
O'Donnell-Harrold
HERE WE GO AGAIN...
TSN is reporting that Kings LW A. Frolov traded to Toronto for the remains of former leafs great Red Horner. No mention to whether or not the casket was included.
Confused at best. Can't really understand the trade of O'sullivan. Looking at all scenarios, nothing makes sense.
What's going on here with this organization?
Do they really know what they are doing?
Hope for some answers from you Rich.
Roger
What? Are you people that mad or just extremely dense? Tom Preissing gives his heart when he plays but Denis Gauthier doesn't? Where am I, Bizarro world? Look, at the time, the Kings needed a guy like Preissing. He's since been outplayed by the kids and like the Elves in the Lord of the Rings, his time has passed. Denis Gauthier fits with this team's playing style a million times more than Preissing. And where is Preissing going to play? He sucks at ES. PK, yeah right! PP, spots are taken by Johnson, Doughty, Stoll and Quincey. Seems like some of you are bitching for the sake of bitching without using your reasoning skills. Neanderthals the lot of you!
question?
if Preissing spends the entire year down in manchester and then is called up Next year does he have to clear waivers?
Ak-
Why is Purcell on your 4th line..
yeah gauthier is terrible. but then again it took this organization forever to realize that Labarbera wasn't the guy
Only thing I can think of is that there must have been one hell of a personality clash between Murray and Preissing. Evan so, I don't expect that Gauthier will be re-signed after this year, Preissing will be bought out in the summer, so that'll mean two openings on the blue line for 2009-'10.
I am a firm believer in the Kings' 100-year plan, though.
I guess Purcell can play the 3rd line instead of Richardson, but isn't that where Purcell played against Columbus?
Harrold had a good game on D a couple games ago, I don't know why TM doesn't keep him there..
With what you have listed, I'd let Purcell play along side Brown, and ride the season out that way. He needs some solid ice time.
To hear what Lombardi had to say on the trade, tune in here:
http://kings.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?catid=-6
We could have simply picked up Satan and kept our 2nd rounder-same contract as Williams, 3.5m. Instead we threw away a 2nd rounder!
Ok, so now DL has 6 guys that figure into Top 6 roles that are Right shots. Frolov, Brown, Stoll, Williams, Purcell and Moller.
That cannot fly.
Out of sight, out of mind. Or at least Dean hopes so. Another bad contract. Yet he feels justified in being pissy with players that stand up for themselves in negotiations. It's business not personal Dean.
Reaper,
Look, I'm no Preissing fan. If he's gone, I don't care. I just don't get why DL and TM seem so high on Gauthier. He's not just not good in certain situations, he's a liability in all of them! He gives away the puck too often in bad places, he commits unnecessary penalties at key times in games...at his best, he's mediocre and doesn't add anything to the team in any way.
I agree with one thing you said: Gauthier fits with the Kings style...lousy and uninspired.
I'm excited about Preissing coming to Manchester. I was hoping to see him on the ice tonight, but maybe it will be Friday. Hopefully he'll help out the young defensemen as Tvo did a few years ago.
Its real simple folks Deano held a grudge over the contract talks and holdout .Sully was underachieveing just like Kopi and Brownie under TMs' system, but Lombardi has a history of getting rid of contract holdouts, same as Cammy. This one comes back to haunt the Kings.Look for Johnsons' holdout, next to go?AEG=Cheapskates.Deano went against everything he has been preaching about the core and staying away from the retreads, especially the injured ones.Lombardi is a liar.Good Luck Kings your gonna need it.
