Colten Teubert note

There was a question in the comments section about Colten Teubert, and why he was a healthy scratch for the Ontario Reign in last night’s Game 7 loss to Stockton. According to the team, Teubert was not a “healthy” scratch, but instead had an undisclosed upper-body injury, which he sustained in Game 6 the previous night.

On a related subject, J.P. Hoornstra, who covered the Reign for our newspaper chain this season, talked to Bill Ranford yesterday about Jeff Zatkoff and Linden Rowat. Ranford and the rest of the Kings brass (Lombardi, Murray, Hextall, Robitaille) attended the Reign game.

Hoornstra has been Hammond of the Reign. His updates are great, it’s too bad he doesn’t get many readers.

That changes my comment from the last thread, a bit…

Still, I remember the comments about Teubert struggling to get pucks out of his own zone, and I remember comments on how the Thunder targeted him. I have faith that, in time, Teubert will be a smooth NHL defenseman. He just needs bulk, and experience.

better be no fat popcorn eating hecklers in the stands or press box…jk…

too bad for colt…however, he has a bright future if he could stay focused and play consistently…

Thanks for answering Rich, Rumor in the stands was that he was a healthy scratch for poor performance (Taking penalties) in the 3rd period of game 6…. I was just a lil concerned

Hoornstra will get at least one more reader, now…

Hope it’s just not too late…

4thlinechecker, if you were at game 6 you may have seen Teubert go down hard after a hit and after struggling to get to the bench, he wasn’t seen for the rest of the game.

I was upset with that jackass off in the corner last night, but his antics weren’t distracting to the game at all as far as I was concerned. As for Zatkoff, from what I’ve noticed he has alot of trouble in the second game of a back-to-back. He was going behind the net to play the puck several times he should have kept himself planted in the crease as far as I would think. Also, game 6 and 7 was collectively the worst set of officiating I have ever seen with the linesman (#95) calling icing in several instances where there was clearly none, and the ref selectively calling penalties. The game was exciting, but season over, rant over.

I went to game 6 and even though I don’t think Colton Teubert played poorly, he wasn’t that great either. About the only thing he did of note was take a couple of penalties in the 1st period. And I did see that he had trouble getting off the ice towards the end of the game. I liked Bud Holloway though. I don’t know if he’ll ever make the NHL or be more than a 3rd or 4th liner. But at this level he’s one of the most skilled guys on the team. I think he could at least make Manchester.

Ever consider a permanent cross-link between you and J.P. Hoornstra’s site, prominently displayed up top? You might even have a recent comments column cross-referenced to his site, and vice-versa. The way I see it, the Reign are the Kings and the Kings are the Reign.

The rumor I heard about Teubert was that he broke his Collarbone.

  • PolarBearOne

Teubert is likely in need of at least two full AHL seasons to hone in his positioning and discipline. The knock on him coming out of the draft was that he tends to run around looking for the big hit instead of letting a play come to him and applying a monster hit. This was apparent in the first game against Stockton that I was able to attend. But, to his credit, he did have some very nice hits when he did get physical. He is going to be a project of sorts that the Kings will need to be patient with, and can likely afford the patience needed to vest into him with the emergence of a deeper defensive corp.

Teubert showed signs of great promise while he was in Ontario, but there were also moments where his inexperience showed. He just needs a little polishing and some additional bulk and he’ll be fine. Compared to the other defensemen in Ontario he was already the best (at least defensively) and was easily one of their top checkers.

A couple more years of development and he’ll make it, I have no doubts about that.

I was at game six and Teubert looked a little off all night. He wasnt playing his usual aggresive game. He skated off the ice at the end dragging his arm with obvious shoulder discomfort. I talked to him at game seven and he said that he was pretty sore but would be more than ready for training camp.

First the Kings, then the Monarchs and now the Reign. Talk about a perfect Hat Trick in futility! R.I.P. Kings Franchise 2008-2009. Not one of your banner years. Bob Miller must be wondering if he will ever get to broadcast another Kings playoff game again.

Does anyone else find it shocking that this was the first Reign Game that DL attended all year? It’s Ontario California, not Ontario Canada!

  • Rob

David: There wasn’t much reason for him to be there. Zatkoff was the only prospect on the team for 90% of the season. Holloway didnt show up till late in the season and Teubert even later.

Your comment about bitstream is also totally bullshit. You cannot send DTS-HD MA or Dolby TrueHD via Bitstream. DTS-HD MA is not compatible with the PS3 at all and Dolby TrueHD is sent ou as a PCM signal (you must have Linear PCM selected as the audio output format). If you select DTS-HD MA from a Blu-ray language menu it comes out as lossy DTS. If you try cycling through the languages to get to dolby TrueHD with “Bistream” chosen you’ll only get Dolby Digital (again, lossy).

I was a blackberry user for last 4 years (ever since the pearl 8100 in 2006) Ie had 4 Blackberries (pearl, curve, storm, tour) I can honestly tell you that the only difference from an OS perspective from the tour to the pearl was nicer graphics. It eventually got old, secondly the Storm was/is a disaster! unlike android or iphone OS it not a touch screen OS but rather a port of the trackball OS on to a touchscreen. This did not translate well and had to many menus and sub menus and options for a touchscreen. Their browser is by far the worst browser on the market ( all third party browsers were hands down better). Finally I think the BIGGEST problem is their having a hard time embracing the consumer market and consumer apps. There is no really fun apps , ALL are about productivity ( you need both) Also they really need to liven up there app store and make it more prominent, It is dark, gloomy and SLOW . LASTLY this is the biggest point of failure , why they do not update the OS for a particular device across the board like apple instead of having carriers update them at their own leisure is beyond me !! The Storm on telus still comes with software from Feb 09 when the OS has been updated multiple times on diffrent carriers . Sorry for the long rant but as you can tell I have some built up frustration with RIM , however I will say one nice thing (which is what is so frustrating about RIM) their hardware really is one of the top in the industry but without good software ?it just paper weight !
