I hope DL uses this pick to draft a youngster instead of packaging it for a proven scorer. I would rather have my luck in free agency. We can pack the farm with talent for years to come.
Either way, keep it or lose it, I'm excited about the offseason -- yet again.
We'll be getting a good player no matter who we pick. Winger or Center will work.
Islanders will _uck it up.
Garth Snow will blow it or trade it away.
This ex-goalie has no business being GM.
He's the worst GM in the league. Even worse than our GM, if you can believe it. I can't believe I'm admitting that.
Way to go Lucky Luke!
Luke should be let go for not scoring the # 1 today. It's not Lucky Deano - It's not Lucky TM....
We had one luck charm and that has sailed...
Anthony makes a good point. Snow gave away Big Scheen last year. He may feel he has to trade the pick again this year. The Isle fans are putting a great deal of pressure on him. He may very well try to pick up three players and a first to accelerate the process if it will save his job for another year. It is hard to find a GM these days that will see a rebuild through.
I'd like to see DL pick up MPS/MSP (i am never sure which way it is supposed to be now...Although I think Bob and Jim will have a easier time saying Svensson for Play by Play. Other than MPS, I'd take a look drafting Schenn. Seeing the videos on both these guys, I really don't think the Kings would go wrong with either one. I think DL will take the best player available and not trade away the pick and I think he may make a trade for what I will call a "incremental improvement" on the LW and push the C/RW's that have been filling in on that side back to their "natural" position. I don't think the "Big Sexy" player will be coming here this coming season. I think that is next years acquisition or possibly at the trade deadline. Alot will depend on this off-season, training camp, and the performance during the first half of the season.
As for the Isles...I don't see Snow being silly enough to trade the #1 pick. Not given the quality of the #1 and the #2 guys. I can see him going either way in which of the top two players he picks. I see him taking Tavares to have the "Big Name" to keep the fans happy and maybe contribute more offense, if he makes the Isles big club. Given how they played this year that's not a real huge stretch.
I could also see him taking Hedman...Having Hedman and Streit on the ice would be nice for the Isles. To build a team's defense around Streit and Hedman would be a nice cornerstone for them looking to the future. With Hedman listed at 6'2" and around 220 lbs., he has the size for the NHL. He is reportedly ready for the jump to the NHL but I think he may need a little seasoning first for the NHL-type game.
It is gonna be interesting to see what happens at the actual draft. Go Kings Go!
Not sure what RJB is talking about. Who is Luke? If you're talking about Luc Robitaille, he wasn't there last night. The Kings sent Ron Hextall.
And speaking of Hextall....
I was shocked an appalled last night when the TSN commentator asked Ron Hextall if the Kings were ready to trade their 1st pick. Where the hell did that question come from? He didn't ask the other 4 teams that question. If I were Hextall I would have answered "well I don't know. Do you think we could get Crosby or Ovechkin for it?". It was insulting to the Kings and their fans.
And Snow might be a bad GM, but he's not THAT bad. He'll keep the pick and take either Hedman or Tavares. I personally can't see him taking Hedman as I think Tavares is the best prospect in the draft, but anything is possible. And when you're building a team you start from the back and work forward right?
Begs the question....would the Kings have taken Doughty first last year if they had the #1 pick, or would Stamkos be a King? Things that make you go hrmmmm.....
Hey 19 and Paul, I agree that it seems unimaginable that anyone would trade the top pick, But last year he traded down to lose Scheen. He has a ton of picks this year so it would seem even more unlikely, but...
