Magic number: 8.1
That number, 8.1, represents the percentage chance that the Kings have of landing the No. 1 pick in the draft. The lottery will be held today at 5 p.m. The Kings finished with the league's fifth-worst record this season. Two years ago, Chicago made the jump from No. 5 to No. 1. Last season, when the Kings finished with the second-worst record, Tampa Bay retained the No. 1 pick. Here are each of the five teams' chances of landing the No. 1 pick:
NY Islanders -- 48.2 percent
Tampa Bay -- 18.8 percent
Colorado -- 14.2 percent
Atlanta -- 10.7 percent
Kings -- 8.1 percent
There is a 17.2 percent chance that a team below the Kings will ``win'' the lottery and bump the Kings down.

The guide on my TWC DVR shows the lottery being televised on NHL Network at 6...and on Versus HD at 7:30...why is it not being televised at 5??? I wish I had TSN...
Not to nit-pick, but where is 23.3% chance that the Kings will fall coming from?
25th 6.2%
24th 4.7%
23rd 3.6%
22nd 2.7%
Total = 17.2%
I know the Kings have an outside shot at the 1st overall pick, but I'm keeping my digits crossed anyway. It'll make the debate easier whether Lombardi will want to select Tavares or Hedman rather than Kane, MSP, Schenn, Duchene, Schroeder, Linus, Charlie Brown, The Great Gazoo or Thomas Hickey's future son.
Imagine Tavares in a Kings uni, or Victor Hedman. If you look around the net, Hedman said in an interview the Kings are his favorite team. I'm not kidding.
I wonder if Dean will try to acquire the #2 pick? Defense wins championships, imagine Hedman-Doughty leading us for battle, along with Hickey and Voynov.
Gazoo's got wicked hands, but Linus checks harder than Brown (Charlie not Dustin).
rich...
the nhl network is scheduled to have their lottery draft special at 6pm p.s.t....is the 5pm time live?
if you can confirm the 5pm time, that would be great...
thanks...!
actually...
5pm is live...and the nhl network is re-broadcasting it at 6pm...
thanks, anyway...!
5pm on Versus. The NHL Network show is tape-delayed for some reason.
5 PM is live on NHL.com and also lakings.com will be showing it
jleung - there is a 23.3% chance that teams placed 6-9 will win the lottery thus bumping the kings to 6th.
May the Hockey Gods shine on the City of Angels today and grant us peace with the 1st selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Anybody got a link for the live feed? (Thanks in advance!)
Kings do not need another top-draft pick. Yes, we had one this season (Doughty is great!)
BUT...
I for one do not want to be sitting here a year from now and discussing what percent of a chance do the Kings have for a number one draft-lottery...when I should really be thinking what percent of a chance do the Kings have at bringing home the Stanley-Cup.
I think we are good on the rookie-front by now... no?
Time to land a top-scorer approaching his prime!
They have a stream on the kings website.

Everybody's tossing out their guy who they want the Kings to draft come June. Has anyone considered the fact that if they don't win the lottery they could very well trade the pick? After all, it's reasonably attractive, and packaged with a young defenseman and a young forward could bring you the sniper everybody seems to want.
Dear Lord...god of ice and King of Kings...please help us. Amen!
does anyone know if NHL.com is streaming the lottery? i don't get versus :(
we got the 5th pick
