Frolov, Russia advance to semis

| | Comments (35) |

Alexander Frolov scored a goal this morning to help Russia to a 4-3 victory over Belarus and a spot in the semifinals of the IIHF World Championships in Switzerland.

Frolov scored a second-period goal to put Russia up 3-2. Belarus tied the game a couple minutes later, but Ilya Kovalchuk scored a third-period goal and the Russians held on.

Russia will play the winner of the USA-Finland quarterfinal, which starts at 11:15 a.m. Pacific time and, apparently, is going to be streamed live at universalsports.com, with Nick Nickson and Daryl Evans doing the commentary.

0-0 after one...the 2nd is about to start...

basically, the u.s. got in penalty trouble taking the only three penalties of the game...

- the fins got off 20 shots to the u.s.'s 7...

- esche played well and saw most all of he shots that came his way...

UPDATE; 1-0 FINLAND...

mikko kapaanen just scored right after the pp expired on a rebound to the left of esche who stopped an initial shot...pavelski was late in the pick-up and mikko was wide open for the top-shelf rebound...

If any of you have HDTV, the game was available on one of NBC's subchannels. Here in the LA area it was channel 4.4.
