I just saw the highlights from the US vs Latvia game on that link and Jack's second goal was AWESOME! There's about 4 highlights of JMFJ taking it end to end setting up QUALITY scoring chances. He looks good.

I can't wait until he's signed, I'm looking forward to watching him grow as player.

I just received news that Tony Jackson has been laid off.

Wow, you seem to be the last man standing. How can we keep you from disappearing from this site???????

I have little faith that the Daily News will be around by the end of the year at this rate.

JMFJ is not much of a wroter. Certainly not as dryly funny as the Kings old blogger, Tommy.

Rich - I am with Steve. I am sure you are aware the rumors are increasing. Can we start the pay service? Or ask Steve to add the "tip jar". I am sure you are emotionally and mentally drained, so please ask for our help, if needed. This site is a treasure. If it doesn’t work, at least we can say we tried.
I have one last suggestion to consider, charge by the article. Let us read the first paragraph, and then give the option to by the rest of the story. Maybe a quarter each? This will allow the people that are stretched to just pick up the top stories and not have to commit to a monthly fee.

*** To everyone else, it may help if we click one of the advertisement bars. There is usually a per click fee paid to the site owner.

Urgg, "buy the rest of the story"

Got my fingers crossed about the Daily News Rich. I really wish they had a Ventura County edition. Good idea about the banners. I'll do that every time I visit now.

For those who don't know, "Universal Sports" is an NBC offshoot. All winter they were showing stuff like the World Alpine ski championships and World Cup alpine skiing. Now they're moving into summer sports like diving and swimming. Pretty good network. It's fairly new. Check your cable or satellite provider to see if they offer it yet. I know for a fact that it's on Time Warner Cable.

Islanders lose a quarter of a billion dollars in ten years. Doubtful he can hold on another ten. The cap will have to come down.

"tip jar" link is very easy to implement via Paypal (one registers, then they give you the code you just insert it on the site). it's definitely the simplest fastest way to go for adding payments to this site.

USA advanced to QF round due to Russia trouncing Latvia. Latvia had won a couple of shootouts which enabled them to be tied with US in points (along with Sweden). Since US already beat Latvia head-to-head, which is a tiebreaker, they had to beat Russia to have the opportunity to advance.

US faces Switzerland next. if they lose, they are almost assured of playing Canada in their next game, in the quarterfinal matchup. Canada is currently the only team with a perfect record, so this is an important "building" game for the US. even Russia has lost once, so these are the two favorites right now.

correction, Russia and Finland also have not lost and lead their groups. I read something which was misleading on the NHL Universal site. Here are some helpful links

U.S. vs. Swiss is happening in 1 hour. Scott Clemmenson has also been added to the U.S. team as another goaltender along with Montoya and Esche. I think he will be used in short order

brianguy- i think some of that info might be wrong (though i just saw your follow up correction).

Anyways, the way i know it, the top 4 in each qualification group advance, and the QF mathchups are arranged like this (groups are E and F): 1E vs 4F, 2E vs 3F, 1F vs 4E 2F vs 3E.

So, despite the loss to Russia, Latvia is in the QF (in 4th in group E right now). The rankings get complicated if the Swiss beat the U.S. in regulation since it will lead to a 3-way tie, but that's not too likely. Assuming the U.S. wins, they'll be the 3 seed in group E and face the loser of the Canada-Finland game in the QF.

Really the only way the standings can change at this point in group E is if the Swiss blow out the U.S.

On the other side, if Finland beats Canada in regulation, they will be the 1 seed in group F. Any other result (Win, OT Win, OT Loss) and Canada retains 1st. The Czech are 3rd and Belarus is 4th.

Russia and Canada are the only undefeated teams. Finland lost an OT game to Belarus.

Is there somewhere we can watch the game on line & is there a fee for it?
