Kings sign King

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Kings have agreed to terms on a three-year entry-level contract with forward Dwight King, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. King was the club's fourth-round selection (109th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.
King, 19, recently finished the 2008-09 season with the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League (WHL) where he recorded 60 points (25-35=60), 51 penalty minutes and plus-9 rating in 64 regular season games. Of his 25 goals, four were scored short-handed (ranked first on the team) and eight were scored on the power-play (ranked second on the team). His 60 points ranked third on the club. The Hurricanes advanced to the 2009 WHL playoffs and in 11 postseason games, King, a 6-3, 218-pound native of Meadowlake, Saskatchewan, totaled eight points (1-7=8; ranked second on the team), two penalty minutes and plus-1 rating, with his seven playoff assists pacing the team.
King, the brother of St. Louis Blues prospect D.J. King, recorded 69 points (34-35=69), 56 penalty minutes and a plus-21 rating in 72 regular season games with Lethbridge in 2007-08 while finishing third on the team in scoring. In addition, he tied for the team lead with 34 goals and 12 power-play goals while earning the title as Hurricanes Best Defensive Forward. During the 2008 WHL playoffs, King totaled 14 points (8-6=14), 12 penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating in 19 postseason games.
King, who won a gold medal as a member of Canada's 2006 U-18 Junior World Cup team, recorded 44 points (12-32=44), 39 penalty minutes and a plus-8 rating in 68 regular season games with Lethbridge in 2006-07. The Hurricanes first-round selection in the 2004 WHL Bantam Draft was also a member of Team Western at the 2006 and 2005 World U-17 Hockey Challenges.

So, what's the word on this guy? Is he future King material or is he destined to stay in the minors?

I can imagine King has a chance of taking the 3rd line spot next tu zues and simmonds. He looked good when i watch the practices, and camps last year. He looked well in the presason games too. he has size and seems to play smart with the puck... from what I remember.
I've never seen King except in camps, but my impression was that he is in the same ballpark as Wudrick, though he's a year older. Wudrick is listed at 6'4" now, King at 6'3", both in the 215-220 range. Both LWs. Power forwards. Both in the WHL. Numbers were very close last season, as well. King: 25-35-60 , Wudrick 35-22-57. Two big bodies either of which could make the jump this year, although I believe Wudrick (having just turned 19) has another year of junior eligibility. King would have to go to Manchester if he doesn't make the team.
Maybe King can be the hitter/digger/enforcer on the line with Loktionov and Moller?
Maybe he can be a replacement for Ivanans by
the 2010-11 season?
What we need is a "Crosby" prospect. If you take a look at all of our prospects, they're all rated to be nothing more than 2nd/3rd liners, minus Moller, but even he will probably end being a 2nd liner.
I'm getting the info from Hockeys Future, though.
Sounds sort of Ryan Clowe-ish and I mean it in a good way. Jonny just beat me to the punch by saying that he might be a nice fit with Zeus and Simmonds. His brother is a decent scrapper for his size, so we'll see if it runs in the family (they do look similar and are build alike).
Just curious, having King for a last name, how many jokes he'll hear about it NOT being about the name on the back of the jersey.

"Crosby" prospects get picked #1 for a reason. There aren't many of them. That said, Drew Doughty may well be the Kings version of that, for awhile. (It would be nice to grab a few of those late round Datsyuk/Zetterbergs, though.)
I think everybody would like a Crosby, the problem is they only come around about every 10 years and you really,really have to suck to get a shot at him.(or in Pitts case, lucky winning the draft lotto)
King played a lot at center as he was teammates with Ashton (#18?-09) and Beach (#12-08) (get the feeling bridge likes big LWs?). He willing moved to center. the stick skills still need some work, but the heart is there. He wore an A this season. I would like to see him go to the Reign for one season and then a couple with Man.
I am glad DL signed him as he was a hard worker this year.

Manchester bound if he has any NHL level skills worth developing...other than that, he's barely worth discussing at this point.

Exactly, now look at Pittsburgh. I guess it's not so much a joke when you suck for a while. Our problem is, we don't suck enough to land the good guys, but suck just enough to not have a good team, either. It's nice to see some progress, though.
Yep.Lombardi calls that the black hole. Not good enough to make the playoffs, but not bad enough to get a top 5-10 pick.

Ersberg and 28, totally concur, but now may be the time to package players and picks for that top-flight player, since most likely Kings won't get that in the draft any time soon. With the salary cap about to bite most of the league, methinks the iron is hot. No?
This is may the case now. That is why you stock the farm with good players, players other team call about. Then when the time is right, you can make the deal that will impact your team without creating another hole.

Mrbrett - I understand what you are saying, but I think the extra 10 minutes of ice time per game helped Bud H this year. He was shooting for the top corners even when more net was exposed. Next year he should be able to earn substantial minutes with Man. The Reign's coach is solid and he tried to put Tuebert in situations where he could succeed. I like King, but I think we will need to be patient.
Also, his brother seems slightly fragile, but I guess every player seems fragile playing for A Murray.
