Loktionov: last prospect standing

| | Comments (13) |

Kings prospect Andrei Loktionov and the OHL champion Windsor Spitfires have advanced to the Memorial Cup playoffs, so there's still one more ``Kings'' player to follow.

The Memorial Cup will include Windsor, host Rimouski, WHL champion Kelowna and the QMJHL champion (Drummondville and Shawinigan play Game 7 tomorrow). The tournament begins Friday.

Loktionov, who turns 19 this month, is second on the Spitfires with 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists) in 20 playoff games. In the regular season, Loktionov had 66 points (24 goals, 42 assists) in 51 games.

Rich, any feeling on what direction the Kings will take on signing free agents this summer? Who would you sign, and why?

Thanks for your great blog!

I think the Spitfires are going to take it all. They have the most and best top-end talent of any of the teams left and they are offensively explosive (in a good way)

For those interested, you can watch game 7 of the QMJHL finals tomorrow FOR FREE over at http://qmjhl.mytelus.com/ . This is an official webstream so no worries there (e.g. it's not pirated). They also have archives of the previous games. Some players i'm keeping an eye on in these games: Dimitry Kulikov, D for Drummondville, #29, he's eligible in the draft and expected by some to go early in the first round; Matthew Pistilli, RW, #16 for Shawinigan, a 6'2 220lbs scorer and free agent that could add some size and depth to the RW.

Hey dudes & dudettes....What do you think the chances are of Lokti making the team, possibly as a LW next year? I know the Spits list him as a center but he's got an awesome left shot. Maybe the LW the Kings are looking for?

What do you think?

-J Author Profile Page said:

Moondoggie, it's always possible he makes the team, but I think its far more likely he heads to the AHL for a year or so (yes, even though he'll only be 19, he is eligible to go to the AHL because he was drafted out of Russia)

Hey Moon
I wish he would be in the Spits again next year...just so I can see him more often. However, it would be useless to hold him back. As a LW..I dunno, he's more of a center and a really great playmaker. His ability to make sweet passes and control the flow of the game is why he is such a great center. Most likely you will see him as a Monarch. Unless Dean trades the starting team for some former shark or something. Also Lokti has an AMAZING attitude, he's authentic, and nice, and happy to be playing hockey. I find guys on the Spits are not like this. Guys like Taylor Hall and Ryan Ellis are just typical know it alls that love themselves more then the game..But thats my opinion.

Thx for the feedback guys, another perspective always appreciated!

Shakes!!! Hey, how ya doin? Gotta disagree with ya on this one, I'm ACTUALLY pulling for the Ducks in this series. Nah, I haven't defected, their play has been nothing short of inspiring especially Hiller's. Plus, I'm just plain tired of Hockeytown and everything that is red and has Wings on it. It's time for a change.....

I like Lokti's chances of making the Kings next year but I think you guys are right, a year at Manchester should tell us just how good this kid is going to be. He sure looks like the deal.

With you all the way on that one Shakes! Nice (?) to see former King David Steickel (sp?) getting the game winner for the Caps tonight..

The AHL will be the best thing for Loko.

He and Moller will rock that league next season,
at least for a while (wink).

His recent growth spurt has propelled him right out of Windsor, for sure. But he will need a few more lbs of muscle and at least part of a season in Manchester before he comes up.

Been watching the Memorial Cup on the NHL Network. First time I've seen a CHL game on TV. Very good stuff! Loktionov looks like a carbon copy of Frolov with more grit. Can't wait to see him in Kings purple.
