Summer development camp

The Kings’ annual summer development camp is scheduled to run the week of July 6-12. Typically, it’s a good event, with almost all of the Kings’ top prospects participating, and Brayden Schenn said on Friday that he definitely wants to attend. As soon as I get a schedule and roster, I will pass it along.

Thanks for the info Rich. Keep up the good work. I’m sure Next week with the FA period you will be busy confirming and denying rumors

  • Paul from Oxnard

Is the public allowed to attend this?

  • Harry

Yes, they are allowed to attend to the dev. camp.

  • KevinWestgarth

How do we go about attending the camp?

  • Ciccarelli

Just go down to Toyota Sports Center (TSC) when it’s scheduled.

  • Paul from Oxnard

Is Toyota Sports Center the rink just south of LAX? I seem to remember the Kings practicing in a rink a few minutes from the airport early in the decade. Same place?

  • josh e.

so neone think we will trade for the rights to hossa in the next few days?

  • Rob

If you get the chance to go, do so. Its a great way to see the new talent up close and there are usually a few kings in the stands watching or skating on the next rink over. Well worth the drive

  • stevebone

does anyone have a schedule? My wife and I were looking to go on Friday the 1oth but we don’t know what would be the best time.

  • Quisp

    Josh E, re Hossa:

From the Edmonton Journal: If Marian Hossa doesn’t take the Red Wings’ long-term offer for between $4 and $5 million a year, Detroit will trade his negotiating rights, likely by Monday, two days before free agency opens. Reliable sources say the Los Angeles Kings, who are looking for a marquee player and have lots of salary cap room, will come hardest after the unrestricted free agent. They could play Hossa with Anze Kopitar.

    “Reliable sources” ha ha ha.

On the other hand, I have been saying all along the Kings are a more likely destination for MH than people think.

  • josh e.

yea i read that also thats why i was asking

  • I think Hossa, if he could be signed for at least 3 years, would be a good addition.

Can anyone give me the break down on Kopi, Brown, Doughty and Fro as far as contracts length of currect contract and amounts?

  • josh e.

yea but those numbers are deceiving…kyle quincey, drew doughty, jack johnson, jon quick, jonathan bernier and frolov will all demand much higher contracts than they are currently signed to if they are resigned or extended

  • 28 KINGS

FWIW…Bryan Cameron, the prospect who wasn’t re-signed…he went undrafted after re-entering this years draft!

  • KevinWestgarth

In case anyone else from this site attends the camp, I’m the big young guy with a mullet

  • KevinWestgarth

    when is the camp?

    where’s the toyota center?

  • Moondoggie

Check out this interview on Kingsvision with DL…..If you don’t like what DL & staff are doing, you’ve got to be nutz! He’s the first GM (with all due respect to Dave Taylor, etc) who seems to actually know what he’s doing, more importantly, to have a plan and to dare to stick to the plan rather than cave in to the cravings of a hungry fan base like other GM’s have. I really admire this guy….

  • Ciccarelli

It’s in El Segundo, just south of Lax

  • KevinWestgarth

Couldn’t agree with you more. DL is finally building an actual identity, an identity that this franchise has never had. Most organizations, with the exception of the expansions, have an identity. Flyers, which I admire, are known to be tough, as are the Ducks. Redwings are known to be extremely skilled. Etc., etc., etc… What is the King identity? Hopefully, and judging by the way DL drafted, the Kings will have an identity…

KevinWestgarth = the recently absent Khanon81?

  • 34YearKingsFan

Regarding draftee Nicolas Deslauriers, anybody see this one? “An absolute wizard on the ice, Deslauriers is a pleasure to watch, thanks to his remarkable skating ability.” (Hockey’sFuture)

  • Deadmarsh

Dean is always talking about “the right pieces” or “the perfect fit”. Well then, if Dean were to be able to draft a fantasy line with players of the highest character and talent, then who do you think he would take? Would be interesting to pick Dean’s brain as to whom he considers the best person for each position on the ice. I would hope he’d have at least one current King in that lineup. It would probably be Doughty.

    Doan – Getzlaf – Ovechkin

    Physical, competitive, relentless.

Counting contracts…I get 51 current or pending, including RFAs and including this year’s draftees who have completed juniors. The 51 assumes that the Schenn, Clifford and Wudrick will remain in juniors and not count against the 50 contract limit. So…at least one name on this list has to go. And more if we sign UFAs.

    Johnson (RFA)
    Purcell (RFA)
    Moulson (UFA VI)
    Westgarth (RFA)
Kolomatis, three seasons of junior, but he’s 20. Manchester?
Dowd – plays in NAHL; what’s their agreement with AHL? Manchester?
    Meyers – sign?
Loktionov – DL says he expects him to play in Manch

I’m KevinWestgarth. You’re the second person that made reference to Khanon81. Who is he?

  • Hockey Jesus

Just to throw some more gas on the fire. Martin Havlat is in L.A. via his twitter account:

What it means with free agency just around the corner??? Maybe reading to much into it.

  • Cricket

    Thanks for the list Quisp.

I know Moulson started last year, but I don’t know how high they are on him to give him a new contract. I would be fine to say goodbye to him.

Piskula and Bagnall are a couple-not sure where their contracts are at-that would make sense to me to be cut off. They’ll never be Kings, and Hickey will take a spot from one of them this year in Manchester.

Goat may very well be gone too.

  • -J

Hockey Jesus- did you read down on the twitter page a little more?- “Everyone should know I am only thinking about signing with Chicago. It’s where I want to be.”

  • Hockey Jesus

@-J, Yes I did. Just thought it was interesting. Nothing more. I assume from what I hear here and other message boards is that many players do have homes in the off-season here.

  • Quisp

    cricket –

the gauthier on the list is gabe, not denis. denis is a UFA, so he may well re-sign with the kings. I don’t think he will though. (i’m not as anti-DG as most folks, but i get the animosity; he’s not exactly mr puck control.)

I agree that moulson would not be painful to say goodbye to, but I personally would like to see him stick around for another year or two. i doubt he will stay though. the kings have a lot of options and i would be surprised if there wasn’t someone out there willing to pay more.

I also agree re piskula and bagnall. by my count there are 9 or 10 defensemen on that list who will be playing in manchester (depending on what happens to hickey and voynov). so there’s room to trim those two guys.

that would bring the list down to 49.

of course, there will certainly be a few additions and subtractions over the coming weeks, maybe even several.

    Fun, fun, fun…

  • Ike

Lets hope they don’t waste a contract on Westgarth.

  • Quisp

    re the 50 contract list:

From the Kings, I think Ivanans, Richardson, Harrold and Zeiler are vulnerable; and from Manchester, the aforementioned Bagnall and Piskula, as well as, oh I don’t know, Parse, Taylor, Dravecky — I assume Gabe Gauthier, Bud Holloway and David Meckler will stick around, but what do I know?

Am I too optimistic to think that Scott Parse may finally bust out and make the Kings? I guess we’ll soon find out how optimistic the Kings themselves are on that front… I do like him, and he actually finally had a good season last year without breaking any bones.

  • adam

Speaking of the other Gauthier ( Gabe ), I wonder if he’ll ever get another shot. I think he came up for a couple of games.

Even though I know it’s not realistic because of his size and place on depth chart. He’s been a long time friend of mine since I played on the Jr. Kings with him, Ryan Hollweg and Brett Sterling ( Thrashers prospect )in the Quebec Pee Wee tournament in ’98. We actually won our division beating the Slovenia National team in the final.

Gabe was the “Wayne type player” on the Jr. Kings back then and also was the hero for Denver in the Frozen Four ( I forget what year exactly ). Just as Quisp stated on another post, just because a player excels on the College or Juniors level, it doesn’t mean it will translate in the NHL.
