yeayyyyy, drew...:)
as if he was gonna get snubbed...!
all the awards are cool...i have no issues w/them...
however...
rich didn't post the masterson...which went to steve sullivan...
ok...fine...
i know he missed the last 2 years and the majority of the games during that period because of hideous back issues...he's a very talented player and an excellent passer...congrats for winning...any other year, i wouldn't even sweat it...
but...
richard zednik must be wondering how he didn't win this one considering he nearly got decapitated on the ice...if it wasn't for the quick thinking and amazing reaction time of his team trainer, dave zenobi (who deserves the hockey equivalent of the congressional medal of honor for his actions) then...well...someone's god forbid...it would have been more than just "game over"...
i remember seeing it and thinking "holy ****! is he going to die...?!?!"
not
"gee...i wonder if he's gonna come back for the third period?"
i'm just saying i was a bit surprised that he didn't win it...
storr made the all rookie team twice????
Congrats to all the players tonight who won. Congrats Drew, let's hope this the sign of things to come. Congrats LA Kings for being mentioned in a stupid Duck's player write up. We still won that game though. Ryan did score a beauty in that one though :-(

Hey variable maybe richard zednik didn't get nominated since hes not in hte NHL anymore? Maybe because he already signed in the KHL i believe or some European League that doesnt make him qualified for an award. But he did have some amazing goals this year especially that one where he jumped over the defensemen just spectacular.
MIKE...
he actually was nominated...
but you make a good point about him scheduled to play in the KHL next season...maybe that was the reason...(?)
Ok sorry about that i didn't know he was nominated i thought you were talking as if he got snubbed from nomination. Didn't get to watch the awards show. Stuck with the Dodger Game :)
These days and nights, can't move fast enough.. In anticipation to next weeks' draft. Not being a baseball fan.. It's all about Kings hockey 24/7/365.
GO KINGS!
ps. Mr. Hammond.. "O Captain, My Captain!"
no surprise there, but it's nice to think about something Kings-related other than rumors. don't get me wrong, i love thinking of the possibilities, but at this point my head is spinning.
Anyone else looking to go the Kings vs Sharks at the Citizens Bank Arena? Im in Rancho Cucamonga about 10-15 minutes away and looking to go to it in September
Hey mike!
Are they on sale yet?!
I went on ticketmaster and saw them but when i went to buy them it said enter promotion code. So maybe there not on sale to the "public" yet Donno.
I'll be there, reserved my seat last month
Anyone have some promo codes they don't plan to use....
If i can go. Il be going with my brother and wearing my Drew Doughty Alternate Jersey.
J-
according to wiki he was on the list twice??? I don't get it, anyone explain?
If you are a REIGN season ticket holder a call to your ticket rep can reserve your regular seat location for the game
5 Observations of the show:
1. Did anyone else hear snoring coming from the audience during the opening music number? The look on all their faces is priceless! (Who are these two? Why are they repeating the same words 50 times? When will they stop!?)
2. I had no idea what Steve Mason looked like sans mask.
3. So do Datsyuk, Malkin and Ovechkin have the same speech writer?
4. JR auditioning for a TV job next year??? Luckily color guys don't have to read teleprompters often.
5. Brian Burke looked like he wanted to beat someone down all night!
Bonus: Would love to hear what Datsyuk was going to say to Ovie after the show for calling him out on his poor English...his look of death was awesome.
Rich, are you going to the Draft Party on friday to hang with us or not?
"according to wiki he was on the list twice??? I don't get it, anyone explain?"
It has to do with the number of games played. The qualifications are that the player must have played fewer than 25 NHL games the previous year -OR- fewer than 26 NHL games the previous two years, as well as being under the age of 26 on September 15 of the season in which he is eligible. In 97-98 he played 17 games, which is under the limit. So then in 98-99 when he played 28 games and was 22 y/o he was still qualified as a rookie. BTW, how about 86-87 when Luc, Carson, & Duchesne all made the All-Rookie team? Pretty cool.
The awards show was OK to watch, nothing special. At least it wasn't the typical amateur hour that it usually is. I thought Glenn Anderson was a total jerk for making that Russian comment. And I wasn't really surprised by any of the awards. I thought Zednik would win the Masterton trophy but Sullivan was a good choice. And I'm a little surprised they got it right with Chara winning the Norris. I thought they'd go with the easy choice in Lidstrom or the guy who put up the most goals in Green.
I agree with Variable. Zednick should have won the Masterson. If nearly getting killed on the ice and coming back to play isn't dedication to the sport, what is?
marc -
why do you think Anderson was a jerk? All he said was he thought he was down the street at the Russian awards. The reason he said it was because there were so many Russians nominated and winning awards last night. Didn't sound like a jerk comment at all to me.
What I did find interesting was when Ovechkin was accepting the Hart and he said "I would love to play in a Canadian city but for now, Washington is my home", or something close to that. I wonder how the owner of the Caps felt to hear that?...
how did Jamie Storr make the all-rookie team two year's in a row?
I wasn't a hockey fan back in 86 but it looked like we had a nucleus for a good team back then with 3 Kings' rookies on the team.
Big Rob in Dallas
Yes, but the Kings never could amount to much better than 4th in the Smythe as Edmonton and Calgary were the class of the division/league for years. I remember going to the 1st round of the playoffs in 1988 - KINGS VS CALGARY and the big question was: could the Kings win 1 game? They did. Even after getting Gretzky there was a season or two that we still finished 4th in the Smythe but we never got passed the 2nd round until '93 and we all know what happened after that.
Also, no one is mentioning that Brown got beat out for the Foundation Player Award by Nash. Iginla got the Messier leadership award.
The awards show sucked this year. No Ron? What are they thinking? As far as entertainment goes with the show, him ripping on the NHL in his subtle way is one of the only reasons to watch. Not like I was dying to see another crappy Canadian pop/rock band of the moment like has been the tradition, but they seemed to be trying to de-Canadian-ize the show. I think that's a huge mistake, because basically it leaves them with next to nothing. A bunch of B-list Canadian celebs the American audience doesn't recognize as anything but supporting cast anyway?
The best awards show I can recall in the last 10-15 years was when they had Dave Foley running the entertainment side. You got Ron McLean for substance and Foley for humor. This year you had what? Michael Buble's dreamy blue eyes? Robin Thicke's pelvis? (Thank god the camera operator was smart enough to zoom on his face when he started thrusting that thing...)
SEVEN (pant) (pant) (gasp)
daaaayyzzz (wheeeeze) (cough)
i... (hack) caaan't (hack, cough) taaakee itt.
I just saw something truly hilarious. On a certain rumor website's rumour chart, he has Labarbara listed as a 90% chance going to the Kings this summer!! HA HA!!! Man that site makes me laugh.....
Hey give it up for Chaka Khan! LOL
That was a mess. That is ripe for an SNL.
De Canadian-ize - perhaps that was it. Certainly I missed Ron. Perhaps with all the Phoenix legal bills the axe had to fall in certain area's.
Anderson tried to pull a funny about the Ruskie awards but Ovie made me laugh with the comment about "at least" Geno's english is better than Datsyuk's. I am not sure if Geno got it but when the camera panned to Dasyuk he seemed to be laughing too!
All good choices for every award, even the heart, but I still think Syd the Kid deserved to be on the list and get the award. Not trying to take anything away from the others.

I also watched the NHL award show.I didn`t think it was to bad. What bothers me is you can`t really enjoy any of the film clips of the players. What is with speeding up the camera, and all those different colors?I feel if you want to sell hockey to new viewers,it would be better to actually let them enjoy the high lights.
I think in Storr's case it was the (lack of) games played during his first season that qualified him for that second "rookie team" win.
BTW
Congrats to Doughty on the ART selection...
