Twitter tidbit
Daryl Evans reported, on the Kings' Twitter feed, that ``Ryan Clowe's name came up today in trade circles here in MTL. From what I've heard, the Kings have shown interest.'' Interesting, particularly since that's not a name I had heard come up before.
A reminder that you can follow the Kings' Twitter updates -- still waiting that first Lombardi missive -- at ``LAKingsHockey,'' and that you can also receive these blog updates at ``insidethekings.''

Yea i just read that too rich, very interesting.
Another RFA? That will upset the payroll.
I've heard the names of 2 Ryans the last few days as it relates to possible Kings acquisitions. Ryan Clowe and Ryan Smyth. I'm sure the latter will be welcomed with open arms by Kings fans.
San Jose would be really stupid to trade away one of their only forwards who played his final games of the season like he was actually in the playoffs.
Without giving up too much (I don't like the idea of giving anything of value to SJ), Clowe would be one of the most perfect additions to the team we could make.
Why would another RFA upset payroll? So long as you don't sign him longer than 4 years I don't see the problem.
JDM, re clowe:
http://kwisp.wordpress.com/2009/06/25/from-working-the-corners-agent-on-trade-rumors-‘i-think-doug-tried-to-see-the-value-for-ryane-clowe’/
Oh I've got you on the regular read list Quisp, but thanks for the head's up.
Interesting that they weren't happy with Clowe's line, when him and Pavelski were the only players with any hustle in them. If by that they mean they weren't happy that Clowe's line didn't produce like a first line because that's what they needed considering the first line was producing like a third line, then yeah, I guess I could see that...
It's not like Clowe deserves uber bucks anyways. I like that his agent flat out said they aren't asking for the moon and the sky. He doesn't deserve more than 4 mill per in my opinion, which is about what I think he'll get.
Can DL keep his comments to 140 characters?
I love all this anticipation. The scenarios possible is mind boggling. We all keep talking about only a handful of possibilities, but they're hundreds possible. Nobody knows what's going to happen, not even Deano at this point. No matter what It's going to be a good day.
LOL, i just went on ESPN to see if they had any new articles there was one on draft i read it, then went to comments this one guy tried to bash Pierre LeBrun i'll quote him
"What a dumb article, full of incorrect information.
Note to the editor..Chris Pronger has already been traded to the kings for jack johnson and the 5th overall pick.
Yeah...happened LAST FRIDAY.
Really..I hope you idiots are not paid to write this electronic diarrhea"
Wonder where he gets his info from? HAHAHA
Handzus + 2nd round pick for Clowe:
Clowe-Kopitar-JW
Frolov-Boyle-Brown
Clune-Stoll-Simmonds
Ivanas-Lewis-Westgarth
Yeah about that guy Boyle.
Don't get your hopes up on him being Kings property much longer...
I'm not saying he sucks (although I think he's all but busted, that's not my point right now :), I just have a gut feeling that Dean is done with him.
jdm, re boyle:
dean's comments on boyle in (maybe it was) the matthew barry interview were interesting, i thought. He sort of said he was penciled in "for a shot" at training camp, which is a demotion I think from being "penciled in to make the team" which he was last fall. but then he went on to say the usual stuff about how much he has to learn, and "you can't teach compete." I may be combining the blog interview with the coffee talk comments. But in any case there was much less enthusiasm for BB than for, say Purcell, who was very much in BB's boat last season.
And San Jose isn't taking Handzus for Clowe. If they want to pay $4MM, they'll just re-sign Clowe for $2.8MM or whatever he's going to get. And, all due respect to Westgarth the poster and Westgarth the player, there will be no Kings line-up with Ivanans and Westgarth skating and Moller nowhere to be seen.
Great points JDM and Quisp. I'm kinda getting that vibe as well about Boyle. I just know if he did compete at a high level everynight he could really be a monster, i'm just afraid your never going to see that on a consistant basis in a Kings uni. Of course with our luck, he gets traded and becomes an all star for Boston or Philly.
Anyways, speaking of trades, I thought this was a great read and definately worth checking out.

MIKE – re: the poster WTF!?!?!? Must be a newspaper guy. (Sorry Rich/Rupert)
KevinWestgarth – Boyle is not an NHL 2nd liner. How could you ever come to this conclusion at this point in time?
And from the tweets: “Just had two toasted hot dogs and poutine...only in montreal!! Luc #nhlabout 4 hours ago from TwitterBerry”
Luuuuuuuc!
Also, did anyone else notice that Laird seemed to emphasize Havlát’s presence in the FA market during his convo on Kings Vision? Curious?
Moller will be the Kings 2nd line center by the All- Star break, Oscar is going nowhere!
Ok, fine:
Clowe-Kopitar-JW
Frolov-Moller-Brown
Clune-Stoll-Simmonds
Ivanans-Boyle-Westgarth
KevinWestgarth,
If we roll out those lines...I'm not going to a single game
Darko,
I understand, why would anyone want to go to a game to watch a young, talented, physical, tough team that will win?
Kevin Westgarth = Khanon ...... i'm calling it now.
If I am wrong I apologize, but Khanon always said trade Handzus, and he is the only guy I know that would post these lines.
Clowe-Kopitar-JW
Frolov-Boyle-Brown
Clune-Stoll-Simmonds
Ivanas-Lewis-Westgarth
However, I must admit I like the sound of Clowe - Kopi - JW
Lock the doors and board the windows! Fro+1+5th for Heater wont go away. All commen sense says no way too much, but if Smith and the 9th are coming back, then I am okay with this. Are guys DL, DE, Hexy are negative but it still wont go away. Where there is smoke is there fire?
Kevin Westgarth,
If we roll your first line up, I am buying front row season seats.
From a local LA paper headline:
"Jackson's death is a blow to concert promoter AEG"
Hope this doesn't effect the King's plans. That would really be a shame.
Interesting, particularly since that's not a name I had heard come up before.
Rich, with all due respect, you did hear it at least once (and I clearly understand that you cannot possibly recall every single entry here). This was something I suggested during an earlier open forum (back in April???) except I was thinking about inflicting a bit more pain on SJ by signing him to an offer sheet. You did not seem to like that idea because of a bad karma and possible future retaliations by competing GM's (although I don't see why DL should worry about his future here unless the team produces TANGIBLE results pronto).
Interesting tweet from LA kings. Its Matt Ducehene's Prospect profile Hmmm leading to anything :)
Watching the NHL All Access 2005 draft. Great comment from one of the scouts. They interviewed the kids and asked them what they were afraid of most. Most said stuff like spiders.
One kid answered...Jack Johnson.
That's awesome. One more reason to sign him...fear.
Mike,
I saw that too, and yesterday Luc twitted that Duchene is a future captain.
Could this meen that we have traded up to third, or even second? That almost everything is settled and just waiting to be released at draft day?
Maybe Toronto is involved (why wouldn´t they?), and end up getting the 5th or something. Maybe a 3-way deal a´la Dean.
Why would Kings else post so much about Duchene on twitter?? Just doesn´t make sense to me, they have not said anything about Kane, Schenn or MPS....
hmmmm......weird!!!! What do you guys think?

But I can't help but feel compelled to thank you wholeheartedly for your amazing coverage, not only during the season, but far beyond and now, on the eve of draft

Thank you, Rich. I don't know if we can say that enough.
RICH, I wanted to make sure that you see this comment. I was out last night (East Coast) so didn't catch these last blog spots. I know we've all thanked you before, but during the day yesterday it never slipped my notice how fortunate we are to have such an informative and exceptionally well done site for us to keep informed and to express our thoughts and ideas.
So...... from me... that's what I want to say.
I'm all about this idea! I'd love to see Clowe play on the Kings. You can't have too many Newfies and as much as I love seeing Purcell in the lineup, having 2 would be spectacular.
CLOWE - KOPI - PURCELL
Nice!
4thlinechecker,
I like Handzus, but since we have Stoll, we can part ways with him and give Brian Boyle a shot at a full season...
You know I have been watching these interviews that Daryl Evans have been doing lately and that guys is yoked! I think he is stronger now than when he played! Sign him up! It looks like he is going to snap that microphone into 1000 pieces. Great job DE!
This is going to be an exciting day and night for us Kings fans.
Last year we pretty much knew who we were drafting. There wasn't much thought to trading up or down. This year is completely different.
I got the impression from DL's comments on the top players in the draft that a guy like Duchene would be his type of player. From everything I'm reading, he's a complete player on both ends of the ice. We could do a lot worse.
Is Clowe an RFA or UFA? If he's an RFA I doubt seriosuly that DL will give him an offer sheet. He has to protect his own future RFA's....A trade might be a different story though.
There's no way the Kings will ever go into the season with a line of Boyle/Ivanans/Westgarth. That might be the worst line combination the Kings have put out there since Willsie and whoever skated with him.
Also dump Handzus for Boyle? That would go a long way towards guaranteeing us a great shot at #1 pick next year.
In all seriousness...what has Boyle shown the Kings to make them think he's something other than a fringe player?
I agree with nykingfan about Boyle. Plus if I'm not mistaken he's an RFA that the Kings may not even resign. Handzus is 10X better then Boyle has shown.
Regarding Clowe, I believe the rumours are about a trade to the Kings, probably for a draft pick or prospect. I can't understand those of you who are saying he's a 1st line player? MAYBE 3rd line. He's nothing more then a muck it up grinder.
Regarding tonight's pick, I still don't have a good feeling of what the Kings will do. I doubt Lombardi will trade up. I think he'll try to trade down if he can get something he wants and doesn't have to slide too far. That screams Maple Leafs trade to me, but I don't see what the Leafs have that the Kings would want, besides Schenn and we know that won't happen.
The other move I could see Lombardi making is Frolov & the #5 pick to Ottawa for Heatly & the #9 pick, but I doubt Ottawa would take that deal, unless the Kings threw in more. Maybe if the Kings added a goalie to the deal?
And let's not forget Kings fans that Dean Lombardi has a reputation for "going off the grid" with draft picks and it could be someone completely out of left field that none of us considered.
NYKINGFAN,
Not dump Handzus for Boyle, more like dump Handzus for Clowe and Boyle
Paul from Oxnard, re off the grid -
He certainly might go off the grid but if he did he would trade down to do it. This is not two years ago, where DL couldn't find anyone willing to trade up so he took Hickey at #4. This year, everyone is after the #5 pick, because the general feeling is 1-4 aren't budging. So DL has plenty of options. The one thing I'm sure of is DL is not going to keep the pick and then use it to select someone out of the top 10. He will easily trade down. (now watch him pick Kassian with #5! no, no, really it can't happen.)
Handzus has a NTC.
Someone fill me in on why we would want Clowe? I have barely heard of him before, never noticed him much in games against the Kings and his offensive stats didn't look amazing at least?
Starlight: Some Kings fans think the team needs more grit and a muck it up kind of guy and that's what Clowe is. I think acquiring him is fine, but it better not be the "big move" Lombardi makes to improve the team because it won't.
Here's an interesting thought to put out there: The Bruins are reportedly shopping Phil Kessel. I'd love to see Kessel in a Kings uniform. What would it take to get him? The #5 pick? More? Something else?
the latest tweet from darren dreger...:
http://twitter.com/DarrenDreger/status/2346448811
I know coverage begins at 4pm but do we know when the first pick is made. I need to sneak out of work 5 minutes before the first pick
Clowe would be the Calder upgrade DL talked about.
Re Kessel:
Apparently Boston wanted Kaberle and the #7, so translate that to Johnson and the #5. Pass.
Kessel and JJ absolutely hate eachother...you get Kessel, one has to go.
Oh, that would be something, swapping Johnson for Kessel.
I am going to try to set my DVR form work to record the draft (too much of a zombie to remeber to do it this morning) does anyone know if a stream for this? TSN or something?
Seriously, anyone else seeing red flags that Boston is willing to part with a 21 year old 30+ goal scorer who BTW is coming off of shoulder surgery and is expected to miss the start of the year and has had his character questioned publicly by his own teammates in the past? Does not sound good.
i think we should stay away from kessel...if burke makes that deal, he's off to a poor start...that's the best he can do...?
this is somewhat important since it would be the first big deal of the season and be an indication of what the bar is going to be for top ranked players...
Kessel will also be a RFA in a year. He's making 2.2 mil now, so you can almost predict him to jump to the 5-6 mil range. Signing him will be a nightmare.
