Slip of the day?

From an L.A. Times blog about Michael Jackson’s memorial at Staple Center:

[Updated at 12:03 p.m.: In an earlier version of this post, Tim Leiweke's name was misspelled as Lieweke.]

haha. I’m glad they stopped that snowball from becoming an avalanche while they had the chance.

  • drew

That version is actually more accurate, at least as it relates to his dealings with the Kings.

  • MacSwede

  • MacSwede

I am a big fan of the Scuderi signing… But just to put thing in perspective, and to give you an example of overpayment, Ryan Clowe just signed a similar contract for San Jose. That is $14M over 4 years…

  • MacSwede

    Another thing…

Mikael Samuelsson has singed for Vancouver as you all know by now, and I am almost certain that he will play with the sedins. They have formed a successful line at the swedish national team at many times, in the world cup and also in the last olympics when Sweden won the gold medal..

  • SuperSonic420

Hey, this means Mats Sundin is available! haha j/k

  • vicarious

Tim L is exuberant. He was quoted in the LA Times claiming that the rebuild was finished when the Kings signed Calder and Nagy.

For you out of towners, today’s LA Times has another story about Landon Donovan’s take on Lieweke’s Beckham signing with the Galaxy. (AEG owns the Kings as well as several soccer teams, including LA’s Galaxy). Landon might be able to play soccer–scored a nice goal against Brazil last weekend–but (maybe) knows nothing about marketing: Lieweke was as exuberant about the Beckham signing as he often is about the Kings. Beckham, on the other hand, apparently agreed with Landon’s opines: Beckham paid a reported $10 million to get out of his AEG contract after the 1st year was up so he could play with a better team before his career ends.

clowe at 3.5M puts SJ at the cap. Maybe they will play with 16 players. They have to move Marleau or Boyle. Looks like the Isles or us? They are in a bad bargaining position.

Am I the only one who thinks we should make a deal for Patrick Sharp?

  • iansez

Actually Vicarious, Beckham has already played 2 years of his Galaxy contract and simply contributed money this year to allow an extension of his stay in Italy with AC Milan, he’s due back to the Galaxy soon and I think has an opt-out in his contract at the end of this year.
I don’t recall TL claiming the rebuild was complete, i guess you’re saying he’s BS’ing for PR motives?

  • jet

mcking – I think Eager fits our needs better, but sharp would be great. Sal/caphit of 3.3/3.9 is a good deal, do you think Chi would want to move him?

  • deedub

    mckinggolf,

i’ve been thinking about the kings possibly making an offer on patrick sharp. he’s a good player who can score and hawks are nearing the cap.

looking back at sharp’s career, i believe he may have played for murray for a year or two when he broke in with the flyers, so there’s the “magic” connection to lombardi.

  • DetroitSons1952

McKing— I really like Sharp also….. but there’s only one small problem…. we have all kinds of Right Wings, Everybody and that includes the Kings players have said we need a left winger….. what the heck is wrong with Tanguay???

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/kings/2009/07/slip-of-the-day.html#_login mckinggolf

jet- maybe for some help on D

  • DetroitSons1952

There’s a few players out there that I think would realisticly help the Kings out, and if we needed another right wing I’d grab Sharp in a New York second. Wonder why Ersberg isn’t coming to the Prospects camp??

  • DetroitSons1952

Jet, here’s what Eager has done in the two seasons with Chi.

    2007-2008 Blackhawks 9 0 2 2 -1 27 0 0 0 5 0.0
    2008-2009 Blackhawks 75 11 4 15 1 161 0 0 0 80 13.8

Here’s what Tanguay did his last two season’s
    2007-2008 Flames 78 18 40 58 11 48 3 2 3 121 14.9
    2008-2009 Canadiens 50 16 25 41 13 34 5 0 3 76 21.1

Also he’s never been a minus in the NHL. For those that like that stat. I thought we were looking for someone who coiuld put the puck in the net, make passes, play the PP, kill penalties…. you know, all the normal stuff a 1st or 2nd line player can do.

  • jet

Okay McKing- Q, a second, and a third for Sharp? They are going all out this year, so they might do it.

  • Cynic

Rick Nash just re-signed with Columbus 8 yrs & 7.8/year per TSN.

    http://www.tsn.ca/nhl

    Dang it….

  • deedub

A little off topic here, but Jacket’s just opened up their pursestrings and locks up the franchise Nash at 7.8 mil. for eight years.

  • gralx

Awful quiet around here. I have been looking around sporadically today and have seen not much on the kings. Watch out though, we’re going to strike any time now!

  • deedub

TSN has another interesting development with Blackhawks QO to players.

If this story is correct Kris Versteeg could be a possibilty

  • jet

I can not see the league letting the Hawks get hit this hard. But, this is the true slip of the day. next time, FedEx?

  • AK47

Rich, have you heard anything about Alex Tanguay or Travis Moen? Both those guys would fit tremendously.. Also, if we don’t want to spend money on Tanguay, we can give Boston Colten Teubert and a 2010 first..

  • DetroitSons1952

AK…. Tanguay ia a UFA from Montreal and boy would he clear up some problems.

  • Daniel

Almost as good as the online headline mistake earlier this year: “Obama makes surprise visit to Iran.”

But when the economic realities force you to have an all-volunteer Editorial staff, these mistakes are expected.

Rich – thanks for all the hard work. Now go put a case of Full Sail on ice, light up the BBQ and take a much needed vacation.

    Cheers!

  • JDM

Man I hope these guys hit UFA!

I’d overpay big time for Versteeg. Give him 6 years, 4 mill per. Plays defense, scores, has heart, grit, skill and is very young. Dean could not find a better ‘fit’ as he puts it.

You guys who don’t go to HFboards need to check out this thread…

    http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=659550

Lots of CBA info in there. Apparently the CBA specifically stipulates that QO’s be sent via overnight delivery unless it is not available.

This will be very interesting to watch unfold.

    BIG potential sh*t storm.

  • darko25o

Versteeg is hard to gauge. He was playing alongside some ridiculously good talent. It might be a siuation similar to Prospal in TB, or Kunitz alongside Getzlaf and Perry…
With all our ties to Philly, I would hope we would have some deal in place for Hartnell or Gagne…

  • Cricket

TSN JUST REPORTED THE KINGS TRADED FOR SMYTH

    http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=283667

  • Cynic

WE JUST GOT RYAN SMITH IN A TRADE WITH COLORADO!!!!

    VIA TSN!!!!

    No details yet…..I’M FREAKING OUT!!!!!!

    YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • NMKingsFan

What did we give up for Smyth???? I hope not too much for a 33 year old. But he does have great character, should be a good role model for the young guys.

  • 54FIGHTING

Where are you Rich? Smyth to Kings as seen above. No details as to who or what we sent to Colorado. Hopefully not much. Don’t know how I feel about this. 33 years old for a 20 goal scorer. He can now put moves on DD in practice.

  • anthonyy

    For who already.

  • Cry Baby

    Oh yeah baby!

  • WTF

First, why are my posts not being approved?

Second, I can not believe we gave away Quincy to take on the Avs payroll
